"Great hotel close to all of the sights"
We spent three nights at the Townhouse Hotel over the New Year. The location is central to many of the sights from Parliament to the Slave Museum to the gardens. It is a 45-minute walk to V&A Waterfront. There are many restaurants close by. The hotel itself is very modern. Rooms are nice, the breakfast is delicious and the bar lounge is a comfortable place to relax. The front desk was very helpful and the rooms were clean, comfortable, stylish and wonderful. I am a regular business traveler and this hotel met all of my high standards for accommodation, food and service. I would stay here again any time in Cape Town.
"Good and bad"
Good points: Lovely room, smaller than some we had stayed in but still a good size for a city hotel. Breakfast choice was amazing. Some staff were attentive and very helpful, which did make up for the bad points below! Given access to a shower room before the taxi collected us at 6pm to freshen up for the flight home. Bad points: Location a bit iffy and advised not to venture out on foot late at night, but then any city can be a bit risky later at night! Breakfast staff could be more attentive, especially where the coffee is concerned and also very slow at clearing used crockery away. One bar man had a somber face unless you were a young female who was pretty. We sat and people watched and noticed it wasn't just us but anyone who wasn't young and pretty didn't get a smile. One male receptionist definitely had a chip on his shoulder over something and was not helpful at all when we checked in. To the point when we offered the cc after the passports, he said no and subsequently we found out that we then couldn't sign off items to our room, having to pay cash as we went along. Also when we asked him about the hop on bus he very reluctantly made the small walk to the cupboard to get us the leaflet. He really did not want to help. There was also an older concierge who opened car doors for the younger student party when they were in or out, but again we were left to sort ourselves out. No pool or outside seating area unless you smoke, which was disappointing but we managed. Overall We did get an email on our return home and I did point out some of the negatives, to which we did get an apology, but sadly their unhelpful staff had ruined the stay by then. Would we stay again, well put it this way, this is the only hotel out of 7 that we stayed in that we put negative staff reviews, BUT, if we could be guaranteed that standards had been improved by all to their helpful staff level, then yes we probably would. Because simply the ones that did help were Brilliant!
The Townhouse hotel is very well located, which makes it move around town quite easy which is a plus in any city. I really liked the room, it was beautifully decorated, very comfy and also broad variety of channels, which is something some hotels cannot get it, and in my opinion it’s an added bonus of this hotel. So if you are Cape Town please do stay at the Townhouse Hotel, you will not be disappointed.
"Average hotel with below average service"
We stayed at the Townhouse for a week at the end of December. The hotel room was a bit small from what we have had in other places but beds were comfortable and we had a lovely view of table mountain out our window. Concierge service at this hotel was terrible, we often rely on these people when travelling for good restaurant recommendations etc, however at this particular hotel they were very unhelpful even with the most simple questions, also bar staff were often no where to be found at the lobby bar. The breakfast we the best part of the hotel, and the servers there were wonderful! The hotel does not have good facilities no gym or pool.. but location was decent and a close walk to the Company's Garden (suggest going to the little restaurant here for lunch or coffee). We likely will not stay here again.
"Excellent staff, beautiful and very clean rooms"
I really enjoyed this classy hotel situated in downtown Cape Town. Great location and very stylish and clean. The staff were friendly and accommodating. The breakfasts were delicious with a great selection of foods, and the restaurant (Trees) was also very good.
