"Beautiful Views and nice rooms"
The hotel is very nice with stunning views and lovely clean rooms of a generous size. This is still Croatia so they are quite a way behind the rest of Europe for all things tourism and that is evident in the service and particularly the food which is shockingly awful and barely even edible although i found the food pretty bad nearly everywhere i went in Dubrovnik. This is a good place to stay whilst visiting dubrovnik, just do not eat in the hotel.
"A Very Pleasant Stay"
Had a warm welcome from the staff on arrival with complimentary glass of bubbly and plate of fresh fruit in our room. Room was very clean and quite spacious. Found all the staff very professional and friendly throughout all areas of the hotel. An enjoyable stay.
I spent 4 days at the Valamar President during a business event. The hotel is surprisingly well conceived, located on a seeside hill, with all rooms facing the beach. In a very smart move, the architect located the air condition external vents on the other side of the building, next to the parking lot, which means that the rooms are absolutely silent even if the terrasse door is opened. Needless to say, sleep quality was fantastic. Everything else about the hotel has been mentioned elsewhere - good breakfast, friendly staff, Bus line to the city of Dubrovnik, incredible beach with crystal clear water, etc. The one thing that disappointed me a bit was dinner at their restaurant; I understand it caters for full/half board guests, and is certainly good and appropriate for these, but when I went there on the first evening not knowing where to go elsewhere, I felt it was overly expensive. I believe the half board rate is actually a good deal. I would not recommend this restaurant for bed & breakfast guests. I learned the next day that there is an excellent fish restaurant called Komen just a few steps away from the hotel, and I wished I had discovered it earlier. Now that I know my way around this hotel and Dubrovnik, I am determined to come back next year.
"It has the wow factor"
Arriving late in the evening we were greeted by the lovely Franka at reception, plus a lovely refreshing glass of non-alcoholic fizz. Franka had organised for us to have a light meal in the bar, since the main restaurant had closed. This was perfect for us. Our premium room on the eighth floor was fantastic. Huge bed, lovely balcony, and a bathroom to die for. His and her sinks, bath with shower attachment, lavatory and a wonderful walk-in shower with rainfall shower-head and flexible shower attachment. After a great night’s sleep we were ready for breakfast. As has been said in other reviews, it is very impressive, and very easy to overdo it on the first visit. The staff in the restaurant are so helpful and friendly. They are nearing the end of their season, but there was no hint of “just two more weeks to go” from any of them. We met the always happy Josip, Maro, the lovely Marija, Kate and many more, whose names I cannot remember. They are all a credit to the hotel, with some of them having worked there for many years. Dinner was equally lovely. The centre, freshly cooked, island rotated its selection of meat, fish and accompanying items on a daily basis. The surrounding items were quite “samey” but there were so many to choose from, it was easy to make your own changes. Marija recommended the House Red to us and it was excellent. We are not really drinkers, so she kept the bottle for us for the next night. As for the hotel itself. It is spotless and very impressive. I would say that if you are looking for a “bucket and spade” holiday with a lot of activities, then this is not the place for you. If, like us, you are looking for a relaxing holiday, without screaming children, then this is your place. There are animation teams and other activities at the neighbouring sister hotels, which guests at the President are free to use. As has been mentioned before, Dubrovnik Old Town is easily accessible by the number 6 bus, which starts its route outside the hotel. There is also a park-like setting across from the hotel, which takes you to the small, modern, restaurant, bar, shopping area. A fifteen minute walk along the coastal path, or three stop bus ride will take you to another restaurant, bar and shopping area, including two pharmacies, which were needed, unfortunately. The only trouble we had on our holiday was that both of us succumbed, one after the other, from the 48 hour stomach virus that had evidently been making its rounds of the old town. Not the hotel’s fault at all. They were so kind and accommodating, allowing us to stay in our room beyond check out time on our departure day, as we had a later flight. Many thanks to the front desk management for allowing this. A real testament to this hotel is the number of repeat customers. We met one couple who have been coming to the hotel since the 1970’s. They have even been to it 3 times this year, which really says something. We, too, will come back to explore some more, hopefully, in a healthier state. Once again, thank you (Hvala) to everyone – enjoy your well-deserved break.
