"Posh Boutique Sanctuary Hotel in Prime Location on Ocean Avenue and Pico"
The Viceroy is absolutely beautiful. From the moment I walked into the lobby, I knew that I chose the most heavenly place to stay in Santa Monica. The check-in was seamless and I was offered a welcome glass of champagne. The hotel is well laid out, and the pool is spectacularly elegant and sophisticated. And the room...divine. The room was decked in white marble and super comfortable beds and pillows. If you want to feel like a celebrity in a private chic oasis, stay at the Viceroy.
"Chemical smell in room- yuck!"
This was not a vacation (were in town for a funeral) so we did not book at Shutters across the street which is an amazing place. Pros: -comfortable bed and pillows -attractive Jonathan Adler like furnishings -breakfast is good -Front desk is responsive (to many small problems) Cons: -You don't get individually wrapped products in the bathroom. They are large pump bottles that other guests have used. Any guest could put anything in your shampoo, conditioner, soap or lotion. Why wouldn't they provide new sealed products' -The bathroom door doesn't close. It's a hanging sliding door. There's no privacy. -$45 parking fee. $28 (or so) resort fee' What's that for''' -There's no fan in the bathroom. -Our mini fridge was broken. They delivered a new fridge when I requested. -A bottle of water is $9. I've stayed in 4-5 star hotels around the world and every hotel leaves a small bottle of water daily or even twice a day with turn down service. - The bathroom is poorly stocked. There's no shower cap, only one glass, a tiny sink, super cheap cotton pads and fake q-tips. -we had to request turn down service, which we need not necessarily for preparing the bed but for replacing wet towels is you've showered midday -What really brought this review down to poor is on our second night (now) I can't sleep because there is an AWFUL CHEMICAL SMELL that burns my throat. This is why I'm writing a review at 4am. It smells like an exterminator just sprayed - I don't know how else to describe it. Our sliding glass door is open to diffuse the smell but I can't sleep because I'm worried it might be harmful. The only reason I didn't give this one star is that the bed and pillows are really comfortable and that's usually the most important factor to me. Overall I didn't expect a luxury hotel. If I wanted one I'd be at Shutters. We spent most time outside of the hotel with family so I'm not looking for some amazing hotel experience. But this SMELL is out of control! I wish I knew what is was.
Great hotel, excellent service. Amazing location, near the beach and within walking distance of downtown Santa Monica. We were really impressed by the assistance we got, especially by one of the front desk employees, Andres. He was extremely helpful and knowledgeable about the hotel and LA, restaurants and entertainment. We stayed for a full ten days and will definitely come back.
Had a great time with my family here. The hotel is great, clean and fun. Located a block from the beach and near everything in Santa Monica. The hotel staff was also very helpful and accommodating. One front desk employee in particular, Andres, really helped us find good places to eat and go out around Santa Monica while also making sure that we had everything we needed during our stay. Would recommend this hotel to anyone looking for a quality and pleasant stay.
"Third Time and Still A Charm."
I've been coming to the West Coast for work for a little over two years now and every time I stay at the Viceroy. While some might argue that you should try a variety places I tend to agree with those in the "don't fix what isn't broken" school of thought. From the first stay a few years ago to now the service has remained consistent. That consistency includes pleasant check in procedures (with a glass of champagne) no matter how early or late you're checking in, upgrades if available, outstanding amenities and a beautifully modern atmosphere. On weekends there is a bar area you can enjoy a cocktail and music in but also can quietly retreat up to your room where the noise from downstairs disappears. I've found my stay suitable for a good nights rest to prep for a meeting and also great for entertaining a few friends who wanted to stop by to say hello.
