"DON'T BOOK IF YOU WANT A HOTEL WITH A POOL"
This was our second visit to the Viceroy and we were extremely disappointed. The hotel made the decision to close the pool area and all the amenities surrounding the pool for one day and entire night (as well as the following day until 1pm) as they had rented it for a private function (VERY GREEDY!!). When choosing hotel in LA with 3 children I would NEVER have selected a hotel without a pool. When I approached the front desk I was basically told that it was my problem and that they were offering vouchers for beach chairs or we could use the pool of Le Meridien both of which were a 10 minute walk away. We ended up going to the beach but only stayed for 30 minutes as it was so windy that it was unpleasant. The day was fine and warm and sitting by the protected pool area would have been lovely. The lack of the advertised amenity of a pool really ruined the stay for us and I could not recommend the hotel. I made it clear that I was unhappy but at no time did a manager try and contact me to discuss the matter. The hotel is outdated from the outside but the interiors are very nice and the food while expensive is quite good. Nonetheless we will not be returning. Please check before booking!!
"Don't judge a book by it's cover"
My first impression of the Viceroy was a little bit of disappointment. The exterior seemed a little dated. Entering the lobby, that all change. The luxury on arrival extended through to the pool area with cabanas and up into the rooms which were decorated to a very high standard. A balcony and better ocean view is the only thing that would have made it better.
A very hip and great place to stay. Good location and amenities. Rooms are good size and the coffee in the lobby is actually tasty. Workout room is nothing special but the pool and chairs are good. Employees at check-in are professional and friendly. Will stay again.
The hotel is very comfortable and nice. Staff very kind and helpful and the food service is also excellent. Rooms are very well designed and comfortable too. I have a view to the pool and the parking but I think that the rooms on the front must have a very beautiful landscape to see. I hope I'l be back soon
"Overpriced for what you receive...stay down the street"
The hotel is located in a good location if you want to explore Santa Monica i.e the beach, the pier, the farmers market near the promenade, etc.. The pool area is nice although it was very loud during my stay due to abundance of unruly foreign children staying at the property. Given the type of hotel and the price for the rooms I would not have thought I would have had to worry about that. The bar area is average when compared to the other hotels in the area - the few other properties I checked out had outdoor patios with a view of the ocean, etc. The maid service was also lacking...I had two long black hairs in the bathtub (I am bald and my girlfriend has blond hair) after it was supposedly cleaned the first day and we had to ask twice to have the room made up the second day - it was finally made up around 4:45pm. Breakfast was decent but overpriced...Cora's across the street is better and about 60% of the cost. I think I will stay elsewhere next time I visit the area.
