"My home in Lapa"
I chose Vila Gale as my base for my Brazil trip. A heaven of peace in bohemian Lapa. Very nice renovation and architectural work / facades. Nice pool and garden (with a very nice bar that has rarely some early evening bands. It could be used more often but I guess there is no shortage of bars and music just outside of the hotel). Very good staff. Well above average. Professional service at front desk and housekeeping. The restaurant service has some mediterranean resort feel, with the difference that is mostly empty. Very good breakfast and decent buffet for lunch and dinner. Room service and service around the pool as well. Rooms are quite large. Sound proofing between rooms (or lack of) can be surprising at times. Very basic gym. I have not used the spa. Internet worked perfectly. Overall, I loved the experience of being pampered and to take my time in the heart of Lapa. I stayed there twice and I would come back.
"It is an oasis in a big city"
Simply brilliant it not the greatest of areas and defiantly not on the beach. However it's so easy to get around that was not an issue for us. Fabulous pool we would spend the morning sightseeing and then come back and relax. Breakfast is fabulous compared to what you get normally get in South America, omelettes cooked to order..!! Staff are great and very helpful, only cam for two nights as a hop off point to go south stayed six which sums it up...!! There is an amazing restraunt round the corner La Bocca bar and tratoria a gem in an unusual area. If I ever go back to Rio this is where I would stay...!!!
"Oasis in a big city "
When the taxi driver dropped us outside of the hotel which had a small entrance on what looked a fairly run down area of Rio I thought omg. However, not only was the area fine and very friendly, the hotel was a beautiful oasis in the middle of a big city. If your wondering where to stay in Rio, include Vila Gale in your research list. Very nice and very reasonably priced
"nice architecture in common areas, depressing restaurante and rooms!"
Spent one night for work, beautiful pool interesting entrance and nice common areas, very intersting architecture in a decadent but vibrant neighborhood, but bad illumination and subpar decoration and function in both room and bathroom. went for breakfast early to find no staff there, arrived 10 minutes after opening time!!
"Amazing hotel with wonderful staff"
Our stay for 10 days during the Olympics was fabulous. The facilities are great with a nice pool and a lovely lifeguard as well as a spa (though jacuzzi not always warm) and a great little gym with free water which we topped up from regularly! The breakfasts were great - extensive and with lovely freshly made omelettes and the staff were very attentive in the restaurant. Our room was super and we were very pleased with the cleanliness and facilities. The thing that made our stay really great was the staff. we were there with our daughter who is 10 years old and the staff were wonderful with her. From the reception team ( eg Marco and Mariana) to the bellboys (Leandro and Marconi) they were all super and made us all feel at home. The hotel is in Lapa which is known to be a party district which made us cautious at first but streets didn't feel dangerous. There were always security on the main door too and taxis came by regularly if you wanted to get about that way. Otherwise the metro was a team minute walk. The hotel is close to the tourist attractions of the Lapa Acros(arches) with its trolley bus and the tiled Escalion (steps). All in all we were very pleased and wou,d certainly stay there again if we're were to return to Brazil!
