"3 days at Villa Oriana"
We came to this villa at the end of an 11 day trip to Italy. We had wanted to have a base from which we could relax and enjoy Sorrento, and visit the local sights such as Capri, Pompeii and Herculaneum. The Villa is situated above the town, away from the hustle and noise and is surrounded by lemon and orange groves that were in fruit at our visit and beautiful to see. Our welcome was fantastic: the team at Oriana know how to make one feel a valued client without being a nuisance! Our room was beautifully and simply furnished and overlooked the bay.It was very comfortable. The breakfasts were divine with the most delicious home made orange juice, the freshest and tastiest eggs, the most beautiful breads and jams, walnuts and hazelnuts from the garden, and to top it all, wonderful home made piazza rustica, focaccia, and orange or chocolate or apple cakes which had all been made that same morning by the owner, Maria. The staff were warm and engaging and Maria, has great pleasure in sharing her paradise with her guests and ensuring that they are treated with individual attention, and that the best is offered to them. Villa Oriana was Simply Perfect, and gave us all that we hoped for. Thank you so much to Maria and all her team.
"Great place to stay but a bit of a walk to Sorrento City Center"
Long walk, 30 minutes to Sorrento city center or taxi 222-25 euros each way. 30 euros to port. Hotel staff were GREAT, way accommodating. Breakfast wasn't much but if you like cakes and marmalade, it would be fantastic. One quirk was that the shower is the same level as the bathroom floor so the floor gets totally soaked when showering. o face towels either. They do have great prices on beer though. Alll in all we were pleased but wish we had stayed in town even f cost more due to taxi costs.
"One of nicest hotels "
This was one of the nicest hotels we have stayed in, and at a very reasonable price. Very friendly, and helpful staff, large comfortable rooms, and a great view of Sorrento and the harbor. Very good breakfast with delicious home baked cakes, quiche, bread and fresh fruit. They were even kind enough to offer emailing recipes to us.
"A lovely place to stay, but to be truly balanced .........."
I would concur with Judi E's review below. There are many testaments to the strengths of Villa Oriana in terms of the delightful setting and views; warm, friendly and helpful staff and owner; huge amount of effort that goes into the breakfasts; arrangements for transport to certain restaurants, etc. It is certainly a place to which we would be happy to return, but, at €300 a night in October, expectations should be very high. Our room, adjacent to the entrance, was bright and roomy (although doesn't appear to feature in any of the promotional photos) with a great view over the Bay of Naples to Vesuvius. The furnishing was rather curious being a combination of antique and ultra-modern clear plastic, but it was comfortable and clean. The bathroom was a very good size, although the shower cubicle including Jacuzzi fittings was a tight fit - a shame given the space available. Again no great issues, but a notch below 5* for the price. The downside of the lovely view is that, as some reviewers have pointed out, it is a good 20 minute walk into the centre of Sorrento down a steep and very dark path at the start. We are fit & active and had time, so it wasn't a problem, but it could be an issue for others who are unaware. A couple of the restaurants providing free transport from Villa Oriana will be reviewed elsewhere, but we really enjoyed Il Retrovo on the main road below the hotel and would choose that ahead of some of the others (do book though!). All-in-all we had a very enjoyable stay and it is a lovely area. As seasoned travellers, we liked it and would be happy to go back, other than for the price. That said, I have no other comparisons in the area and maybe it is the going rate for Sorrento.
Room and bathroom was spacious and very clean. Breakfast each morning was outstanding and enjoyed with spectacular views of the bay. All of the people were so helpful with recommendations for tours, restaurants, transportation and so willing to make arrangements. And they were just delightful to converse with! It is a bit of a walk into Sorrento which did not bother us at all and many restaurants provided transportation to/from the Villa. Highly recommend Villa Oriana Relais!
