"A lovely place to stay, but to be truly balanced .........."
I would concur with Judi E's review below. There are many testaments to the strengths of Villa Oriana in terms of the delightful setting and views; warm, friendly and helpful staff and owner; huge amount of effort that goes into the breakfasts; arrangements for transport to certain restaurants, etc. It is certainly a place to which we would be happy to return, but, at €300 a night in October, expectations should be very high. Our room, adjacent to the entrance, was bright and roomy (although doesn't appear to feature in any of the promotional photos) with a great view over the Bay of Naples to Vesuvius. The furnishing was rather curious being a combination of antique and ultra-modern clear plastic, but it was comfortable and clean. The bathroom was a very good size, although the shower cubicle including Jacuzzi fittings was a tight fit - a shame given the space available. Again no great issues, but a notch below 5* for the price. The downside of the lovely view is that, as some reviewers have pointed out, it is a good 20 minute walk into the centre of Sorrento down a steep and very dark path at the start. We are fit & active and had time, so it wasn't a problem, but it could be an issue for others who are unaware. A couple of the restaurants providing free transport from Villa Oriana will be reviewed elsewhere, but we really enjoyed Il Retrovo on the main road below the hotel and would choose that ahead of some of the others (do book though!). All-in-all we had a very enjoyable stay and it is a lovely area. As seasoned travellers, we liked it and would be happy to go back, other than for the price. That said, I have no other comparisons in the area and maybe it is the going rate for Sorrento.
Room and bathroom was spacious and very clean. Breakfast each morning was outstanding and enjoyed with spectacular views of the bay. All of the people were so helpful with recommendations for tours, restaurants, transportation and so willing to make arrangements. And they were just delightful to converse with! It is a bit of a walk into Sorrento which did not bother us at all and many restaurants provided transportation to/from the Villa. Highly recommend Villa Oriana Relais!
"Lovely place to stay with a car"
My wife and I enjoyed a wonderful few days stay at the Villa Oriana. Maria and her staff are wonderful and could not do enough to make our stay enjoyable. Breakfast here is something else with a good selection of food and especially the cakes which are cooked fresh early every morning by Maria. Having breakfast on the balcony you have a beautiful view over the bay of Naples and of Vesuvius. The only downside is that anyone with mobility problems might have difficulties as our room was down several flights of stairs. Also without a car it is about 20 to 30 minutes walk to and from Sorrento with a very steep hill to walk up to the hotel from the main road. It is possible to get a bus into Sorrento along the main road at the bottom of the steep hill. The taxi fare from Sorrento centre to the hotel is 20 Euros.
"A real treat!"
Beautiful location, lovely room, amazing view and grounds and a delicious breakfast topped off by a helpful and friendly staff. Could not ask for better! We were thrilled to have stayed here and look forward to returning. A wonderful and relaxing place - it did not disappoint in any way!
"Look no Further"
Wonderful place to stay in Sorrento...Up a winding, small road to reach the property and then through a "grove" of lemon trees to the hotel. The B&B is like a small, boutique hotel very welcoming and attentive staff. We were greeted by staff when we checked in with a Lemon drink prepared by Maria, the owner. Then shown to our room (the Junior Suite) with a lovely balcony (the only negative to our entire stay is there is a large tree that blocks a good portion of the view from the balcony to the bay). The breakfasts are feasts with at least 3 new sweet cakes and 1 savoury baked item (all made by Maria) every day (along with the usual meats, cheeses, cereal, yogurt and eggs). We got great recommendations for dinners and the staff was always willing to make the reservations for us. Wish we could have stayed longer. Good location between Naples/Amalfi areas.
