"Great location, comfortable hotel"
This was our first visit to Prague and our first weekend away in a while so we were very excited to arrive at Sax. The hotel is quirkily decorated in 70's style which wasn't entirely to our taste but hey, it's what we signed up for! The building is lovely and our room had large windows overlooking the rooftops. Breakfasts were extensive and good. We made use of the private "spa" downstairs with its sauna and hot tub, very relaxing. The hotel is on a quiet cobbled street in the embassy district. It's pretty deserted after dark but, as a woman, I never felt unsafe walking alone at night. It's possible to walk to all the key sights but you'll want your walking shoes. Two nearby restaurants that are worth visiting are St. Martin and Krčma "U sedmi Švábů". Krčma "U sedmi Švábů" is traditional Czech food in a kitschy faux medieval setting but is good at what it does, St Martin is our favourite restaurant in Prague, the Pork steamed buns in a romantic little courtyard are enough to make you weep after a week of stodgy Czech food. To get to Krčma "U sedmi Švábů" go out of the hotel entrance, turn left and follow the road round until you see some sloping steps leading up, the restaurant is on your right part way up the steps. To get to St Martin go out of the hotel entrance turn right and then immediately left, walk for a minute (past the KGB museum) and the restaurant is on your right.
"Fun place to stay!"
Groovy vibe. Fabulous breakfast. Funky rooms and art/design. Very pleasant, helpful staff. Fantastic last minute deal on Trip advisor. Quirky location near the Embassy district, especially close to US Embassy. This location felt more safe in an already safe area. Issue: no ice...oh well. Extra: free welcome drinks in nearby fabulous restaurant. The history in tbe neighborhood is phenomenal. And dont miss out on the crazy kGB Museum nearby
"Instead of the Swedish Eurovision song from 1999 “Take me to your heaven” / “Take me to your seventies”! "
Entering this hotel brings you to past years - the `80s , `70s, `60s ! The design is great and with good taste. Almost every piece is well maintained! It is a small hotel located in a quiet and safe area (Praha 1) close to Charles Bridge (10 minutes walk) and to the Prague Castle (10 minutes up the hill); good breakfast; clean rooms and very friendly reception team [Kristina, Nikita and the other guy with a hair braid - bravo to you for your patience and kindness!] Good restaurants near the hotel (one of them more expensive, but with excellent food and service)! Disliked: 1 - Towels I agree with Katie D.’ ‘s review: “towels a little bit tatty around the edges and there was no facility to make tea/coffee in your room - there were facilities down stairs but you to pay extra which for the price of the stay was a bit cheeky”. Dagmar & Staff’s answer to her critics is not true: “Little bit tatty towels are not tolerated in our hotel, we are changing them as soon as we see that towels are not 100% fit”. - We had the same towels she had - tatty around the edges and with …. a small hole !!!! 2 - Coffee and tea facilities - We had no coffee machine in the room!! I had to pay for coffee from the machine, even it was a “friendly” price! 3 - In the bathroom we had only 1 piece of Yves Rocher shampoo and 1 piece of Ives Rocher shower gel. We were 2 persons and not 1! 4 - No mouse coming with the free wi-fi laptop in the room. You have to take into consideration that "older" people do not know how to use the computer with that "small red ball". 5 - Not enough ink on the flyers/welcome papers the hotel gives to its guests! I couldn't read well what was written because I did not see all the letters; they were erased; I had to guess the meaning! You have to distribute a flayer with enough ink on it.
"Wonderful, Unique, Hotel"
Really cute.Great variety for breakfast, (as well as decent breakfast hours) cozy, unique rooms, nice and helpful staff, good free wi-fi, easy efficient airport service can be arranged, great location, walking distance to main attractions but still on a quiet, safe street/neighborhood, conveniently located up the street from a great wine/cheese bar, Fun decor and design, full of vintage objects, which as a collector myself, I was in heaven just walking around the place looking at all the cool, interesting, vintage stuff collected from the 50's, 60's and 70's. What wasn't part of the design/decor, was displayed around the hotel. Kitchen appliances, toys, furniture, art, lamps, wallpaper, etc. Not only is it a great hotel in the obvious ways, but also in a fun, artsy way, which I loved.
"Delightful hotel in great location"
The location could not have been better for the value and closeness to Mala Stranska without being surrounded by other big establishments and hordes of tourists. It is mid way between Charles Bridge and the Castle. There are a couple of good restaurants just around the corner and a few more slightly further away, but still within walking distance. The hotel itself is quirky with some very interesting bits of artwork. The rooms are well furnished although some of the furniture may have seen better days. The owner, who we met, is conscious that some work needs to be done and it was being started just as we left. The staff were very friendly and helpful and went out of their way to help either with directions or restaurant recommendations. The breakfast was basic, but good. Eggs had to be paid for, but be aware that if you order eggs and bacon, it comes mixed together. So if that is not to your taste ask for them separately. Definitely worth staying at if in Prague. It is small so may be hard to get in to, but worth trying.
