Excellent service, beautifully decorated, very clean, good restaurants in the building,... It is quite far from downtown but the metro station is only two blocks and the metro system is fantastic. I strongly recommend it. Be aware that the pool was not available during the week I was there.
"Comfortable and secure with good service."
My wife and I stayed at the Vision Hotel in July, and despite the heat we had a great holiday in Beijing and the surrounding area. We were surprised by how helpful people were, inside and outside of the hotel, and how willing they were to go out of their way to assist with directions and advice. Please be aware that not everyone, unsurprisingly, has fluent English and communication can be slightly difficult at times. The staff at the hotel were very helpful and we loved the lady head chef in the restaurant who was amazingly hard working and sociable at the same time. Our room was an Executive room on the 21st floor and we had access to the executive lounge. The offering was rather limited in the lounge compared to other international hotels, and "happy hour" food and drink need improvement. The management of the hotel were accommodating, Julie the Assistant Manager was very attentive to our needs. John the Concierge was very helpful, and Richard, the hotel Manager was professional in every respect. The big plus is the university campus surrounding the hotel, with beautiful parks, interesting cafes and a good vibe. When you need a little peace from the busy city this is a good place to go. Use the very cheap subway for a very easy ride to the centre of Beijing, the station is 200 yards from the hotel. Food: Breakfast buffet was fine and the dinner buffet was good with unlimited draught beer and some interesting dishes, both Western and Eastern.
"Decent hotel in university quarter - check out the unlimited local beer"
The downside of this hotel is that it is a long way from anywhere - 45min + ride to the centre or the airport........and that's if the notoriously dense Beijing traffic runs smoothly. On the upside it was comfortable, with spacious rooms and all the facilities you would expect from a good business hotel. Added bonus was the swimming pool - a really good size (though only open from 2pm for some reason, and not usable without a swimming cap......which you can buy for a few RMB). Breakfast had a good variety of fruit (well a wide range of types of melon......though the watermelon was the most flavoursome I have ever tasted) and lots of pastries + Chinese and western cooked breakfast. Top tip - go for the evening buffet at the Oasis Cafe. Food was ok - good range of Chinese main courses + slightly incongruously, a plate of chips and pizza......but key benefit was the serve yourself beer tap where you can get as much of the very passable local brew as you can pour......though if you are as bad at pouring as me you will only get half a glass of beer topped up with froth each time!
"Clean and comfortable but nothing special"
The vision hotel is clean, competently run, and comfortable. In other words, it's pretty unremarkable. Nothing too bad (except the Internet) and nothing too good. A solid bet if the location suits (e.g., for one of the many nearby universities). The only real problem was the Internet, which was very patchy; I stayed for two weeks and the Internet would fluctuate pretty randomly from perfectly fine with good speed to essentially stopped. The hotel staff were entirely unhelpful in remedying the issue. They kept on wanting to fix my computer (despite the fact that it sometimes worked fine on my computer and despite the fact that I got the same effects on multiple computers and multiple phones); I ended up justing using the data plan on my phone, but that can get expensive.
"Great business hotel in north area of Beijing"
This is a nice 4-5 star local hotel in the Haidian area of Beijing. It's easy to reach from the airport (about 50mins in average traffic, just over 100 yen taxi fare), and I found it convenient and comfortable for my 4 night business trip. The hotel facilities include 2 restaurants and breakfast/dinner cafe, 20M indoor heated pool on the 13th floor- quite good if you like lap swimming like I do- and I found the check-in and overall service to be quick, very friendly, and all I could ask. The Vision Hotel is a local owned chain so don't expect everybody to speak english and you will be fine. I had trouble one night ordering room service with my lack of Mandarin and the attendant's lack of English, however she persevered and I got my order. The next time I ordered room service there was a different attendant and this one spoke quite good english. It's just one of those things you might face in a non-english speaking country, so if you expect everyone to speak english, don't stay here. My room was an "executive deluxe" (55sqm) and I paid about the same as I was quoted for a much smaller room at one of the nearby western chains. I booked direct on the hotel's website. They didn't require a credit card for booking unless you were arriving after 6pm. That is recommended to secure the room you have booked. My room had a 55" TV, lounge suite, desk, separate very large shower with a rainwater head, bath tub, and a better bed than you normally get in most Chinese hotels with a selection of pillows. I think the nicest thing was how helpful all staff were- even the ones that couldn't speak english did their best to understand or got someone for me that did. I think they all should be commended, as sometimes I don't get this type of good service from western hotels in many countries. The buffet breakfast was included in my room fee, and the food was pretty good with a large selection of both western and local eats. The hotel is also less than 100M from the Beijing subway. This means that you can access anywhere in the city quickly and quite inexpensively. I use a iPhone app to work out where I am going and where I have to change trains. The MRT auto ticket machines all have english interface, so all you need to know to buy a ticket is the name of the station of your destination. Take a 5 CNY note or 1 CNY coins for the machine as it's limited in bills it accepts. I have traveled on the subway all hours and never had any issues with safety. Just take the usual precautions, and plan where you are going first. if I was going to nitpick and tell the hotel what they might consider to do better, the following is what I would include: - The room temperature: Even though outside was regularly between -10 and -6 degrees C at night, I couldn't get the room down less than about 25 using the thermostat. I ended up simply turning it off. That got it down to about 22 as there must have been heat coming in under the doors. Just cool enough to sleep. I've seen other reviews about temperature problems here so I would be upset if it was summer and had to sweat it out at night. It's a managed Siemens aircon system, so someone has got the management controls setup wrong. It needs looking at, as sleep comfort was down until I worked out that the thermostat had no control over the temperature. It's also one of those things that is hard to explain to non-english speaking staff, so I didn't bother making a complaint after I found it bearable with the aircon off. But that's not something you could do in summer here. Beijing can be very hot and humid some months. - The pool is only open from noon to late in the evening. They should consider opening at 7am for the people like me that like to exercise before breakfast. They can close it earlier. There were no people in the pool there when I first checked twice at 8pm. - Room service options were adequate, but there was not really any selection of wines or beers listed, and this led to a long discussion on the phone with room service trying to work out what I could order. I then received the wrong drink order anyway. The next day I went to 7-11 down the road and bought what I needed for the rest of the stay! The 7-11 is about a 10 minute walk west. You also past lots of restaurants and chain food stores like KFC,McDonalds, etc. - The TV channels are all chinese language except for a CCTV english speaking channel that is basically a government channel that tells all of the "good" news. It would be great to have just BBC and/or CNN english channels to be able to keep up on the news offshore. - Hotel WiFi was just OK. But since my company uses managed web services from Google, I am at a big disadvantage in China- the Chinese government blocks Google, Facebook, and other websites and services. My mail service and other things like Maps, docs, etc are unreachable unless you use a VPN service. There are only a few that work well in China, and I think the government is getting even better at detecting VPN traffic. They seem to kick you off every now and again, as well severely limiting your speed at times. So in summary, I would stay here again. The rooms are good, the pool is great for exercise, and the friendliness of the staff is why I will be back. It's a good hotel for business travel, and if you are here for tourism, the subway makes accessing anywhere in Beijing a breeze.
