As with most W hotels, very chic and party vibe. Found the food options in the area a bit lacking. But maybe due to the change of ownership the staff didn't make much effort to explain. Visited for (2) days with child and had no issues. Loved the pool. Quite far to get to from airport.
"Unexplained Charges AFTER CHECK OUT and now hotel email no longer contactable"
The hotel overcharged my credit card more than 170, 000 won the day AFTER I checked out in December 2016 without any explanation or attempt to contactme, and it was not reflected in my checkout bill. To add insult to injury, as I soon as I saw the credit card bill and try to contact the hotel, I was informed by Starwood representative that AS OF 3rd JANUARY 2017 THE HOTEL IS NO LONGER PART OF THE STARTWOOD GROUP of hotels , without any warning !!! There is no longer any webiste currently available nor any email address, and I was just advised to CALL THEM FROM MY HOME COUNTRY AT MY OWN EXPENSE. This is toatlly unacceptable for both Starwood and W Hotel a so-called High end hotel. Very very disappointed with my experience overall.
"Services not on par , filled with attitude !"
I was hesitating to check-in W Hotel because I had some events there. On and off, my days ended late and I decided to check in the hotel on my 2nd Day. I've asked SPG desk (i'm a SPG member) if there's any room available. Sarah, the personnel at the desk ask me to book through the hotel website as it is easier. Ok, i follow her instructions (I thought hotel accepts walk-in). As I was booking the room on the website, I told her to get a non-room nearer to 14th floor where all my crews are there. She says the nearest is 13th floor and i'm fine with it. When the reservations has been done online (only smoking rooms are available), she told me there's only 5th floor and it's a smoking room ! Words were twisted and she says that the room has been taken up. I told her no, I don't want a smoking room and I told her I can pay extra for other non-smoking rooms. She said, sorry, no rooms available. I told her then I won't be staying. In the end, she told me , there's another room but you have to top up around US$45 per night for the non-smoking room. By then, I was rather pissed and not even willing to fork out that money because I felt like I was being played around. I told her to cancel the room and I went back to the suite room which we also had on the 14th floor. A while later, i managed to check online the hotel website that there's non-smoking room with the same category that I wanted to book initially. I got the room and I don't even need to pay the extra for non-smoking. I went down to her and collect the key and a sacrastic remarks "Lucky You" ! I told her I needed a late check-out and she said "No" ! I'm not asking for like 6pm, it's till 2pm. The next morning after breakfast at 7am, I talked t o another guy, "Tag" and ask him for late check-out, he gladly extended it to 3pm without any further questions. Tag is so much a better personnel and gracious person to talk to. For Sarah, I think she's too wealthy to sit at the desk in the lobby. If she can't attend and be nice, please work behind the scene ! Sounds ridiculous to me as it's within mins.
Hotel is what you would expect of W. lobby and rooms are elegant and modern. Stayed here for 2 nights. Location is not ideal, as it is bits out of the way from all the tourist attractions. Concierge desk was very helpful in arranging the tours for us. Overall great property and will recommend and stay next time when I am in Seoul.
I stayed at the W Walkerhill in October during my first trip back to Korea in eight years. Eight years ago, I only stopped by the W bar and it was so cool - the scene, the people, and the service. It was THE it spot then. I was looking forward to finally staying there and found my visit to be disappointing. The Good Things: - View - We stayed in a Fabulous Spa Room on the top floor with a full river view. It was incredible! - Location - I appreciated that it was tucked away from the business of being right in the city center. - Cleanliness - Did not have to worry about this at all. Misses: - Room - The Fabulous Room felt outdated. The closets and drawers were either loose and slammed shut. Look a little closer at the ceiling or the tiles and you'll see that they are cracked. The overall layout felt awkward. - Room amenities/minibar - The W was hotel #3 during our Asia tour. Bathroom basics such as toothbrushes and toothpaste, even travel sewing kits, had always been complimentary until the W. I felt very nickel-and-dimed. - Service - The hotel staff for the actual hotel room - room service, cleaning staff, etc - were great. However, be warned that you should "look the part" for elevated service particularly at the bar and valet parking. Also noting that when I went to the bar, there was no one there. It was very early on a Sunday evening. - Breakfast buffet - this was included in our rate. The restaurant location and view is amazing. The buffet looked impressive at first glance but the food sadly was forgettable. I wish I had not "wasted" a meal there, especially with all the amazing food Korea has to offer. I was expecting sophisticated service with a trendy edge, what I've come to expect from the W brand. Unfortunately, this W is past its prime. The Sheraton next door looked more attractive.
