"Total disregard for customers wishes and situation"
I had made a booking for a "premium indulgence" room, 17th floor upwards featuring full sea view with your hotel on the occasion of the marriage of my daughter. The room offered various add-ons, like spa voucher, fresh fruit in the room, complimentary use of gym, pool etc and complimentary breakfast. When I went to the hotel to make the payment, i was informed that my daughter had been upgraded to a suite. I expressed my thanks but clarified with the receptionist that I definitely wanted a room on a higher floor with a sea view since it was their wedding night. He assured me that they would do their best. When my daughter and her husband reached the hotel around 1 pm, they were given a suite on the 2nd floor, overlooking a very noisy, busy street. A far cry from the beautiful sea view room that I had booked for them. Apart from that the person checking them in, did not even have the courtesy of informing them that they had complimentary breakfast along with other minor perks as part of their deal. The next day I went to the hotel and after a long argument managed to get the hotel to change the room to a higher floor. But still, nobody informed them that complimentary breakfast was part of their package. It was only on the morning of their checkout when I asked how they had enjoyed the breakfast, they informed me that no one had told them about it or anything else. It is really a disgrace that a hotel from the reputable Taj group has become so sloppy and slip-shod in its service to guests. I would definitely advise people not to waste their money (and believe me Taj President rooms are not cheap) and opt for any of the hotels in the vicinity instead. I for one, will never make this mistake again.
"Review of suite room.."
For our anniversary, we booked the suite room at the hotel. Pros: 1. Very smooth check in experience. 2. Great service and we were given a cake by the hotel to wish us. 3. Food at the restaurants Konkan Cafe and Wink was decent (not great). Cons: 1. Water pressure in bathroom was horrible. Bathtub took 1 hour to fill, and it was virtually impossible to have a shower. 2. Water temperature was also awful - much too cold for our liking. Price-wise, I felt that we overpaid for the experience, but we should have been forewarned as this is considered to be a budget hotel of the Taj Group.
"Comfortable but monotonous breakfast"
The hotel has pros and cons. It is located about a kilometre from the Colaba Causeway. Staff are friendly and facilities are good but the breakfast buffet was soooo monotonous! Found the buffet leaned too much towards vegetarian dishes. Lovely sea views available. A great touch is the gift bags given to female travellers. Also enjoyed the fruit plate and flowers in the room. I feel that more attention should be paid to cleaning the bathrooms. Great facilities at the spa. On the down side, staff in the reception area need a little more training perhaps' Not very consistent - we checked in on two separate occassions but my daughter was disappointed that we did not receive a rose as all other guests did. The reception area/ foyer was a bit of a madhouse with unsupervised children running riot. This should have been dealt with by staff. There was a visiting UK school, typical teens but very annoying to other guests in the pool. Again, this should have been addressed by staff.
"Central Location in Mumbai"
The spa was very welcome after a day in bustling Mumbai. Good central location with functional rooms, slightly musty smelling though. The hotel needs to create a lounge bar where you can relax with a drink or a cup of tea. Sitting in the lobby isn't relaxing and the bar is a windowless room. Perhaps an outdoor terrace at the front could be a solution.
Upgraded rooms with city views feature Japanese minimalist interiors and antique Indian furniture. Breakfast and parking are free. There are 2 restaurants, a bar and a deli, plus a pool, a gym and a spa. The hotel also has a business centre and meeting space.
