"Visiting the walk of fame..."
Great location to spend a few days viewing Hollywood and the walk of Stars...Awesome tours into the upscale high rent district homes of the rich and famous. Starts in the wax museum and the figures are life like. Photos and poses are fun with people from Micheal Jackson to President Obama.
"Walk from the hotel to the star walk and oscars dolby studios"
Situated on the very road / street which goes to the Hollywood Star Walk, you can walk in few minutes to few blocks away the Star Walk or the Dolby Theaters where Oscars are held every year, also to Oscars' old venue the Chinese theater. There is a swimming pool on the terrace of this property.
"Good hotel - steady W experience "
Expect average W experience... nothing outstanding except Eddie the valet/bellman. He was awesome, every interaction throughout our stay he genuinely delivered 1st class hospitality. Everybody else, about a B+ experience with high prices as you'd expect in Hollywood. Overall it was clean and worked out fine for a couple of nights.
"Perfect location in Hollywood "
Fantastic rooms , very comfortable bed, pool and bar on roof for great views across LA , reception staff very friendly and informative . Close to the action and fun of Hollywood Highly recommended ! !
"Buyer Beware of the Ripoff by the W Hotel Bar/Lounge"
Surprised at the lack of ethics and integrity in a such a well known chain. Be advised that the W Hotel charges 16% as a "server fee" (aka TIP) regardless of how many people in your party. Not necessarily an issue as I always tip well, BUT, they do their very best to hide it within the bill which the waitress cleverly folds in half before presenting for payment so that you will not actually see that they have already included the tip. I fully understand that practice with larger groups of 8 or 10 people because most people tip like crap. But our party only had 2 people! I know being wait staff is one of the toughest jobs in the world and I am typically a really generous tipper at 35% to 60% (or more) of the total bill. That is until I realized that I was actually tipping nearly 75% of my bill because the waitress hid the itemized receipt in the fold of the of the Check Holder and handed me the final, "non-itemized" payment slip with the extra line for TIP. This has happened a couple of times previously there. The first time, I realized as I was leaving that I had inadvertently tipped my waitress 75% of the total bill. I returned to the bar and asked the manager WTF and why they did that. He was totally embarrassed and offered to reimburse me for the entire bill which I declined. He again apologized assured me that they were going to discipline the waitress for the unethical behavior. The next time it happened I asked the waitress about it and she sheepishly apologized and presented me with the entire itemized bill. I know that she has a tough gig so I gave her 30% even though she blatently tried to rip me off. This time, I caught it right up front, circled it on my bill and paid. So obviously, this is the not-so-new scam for the famous W Hotel that management fully endorses. Cool if you can get away with it I guess, but still seems rather lame and unethical when you are paying $100 or more for a bottle of wine. Last time, the parking attendant cleaned out my coin tray of over $25.00 and that was in addition to the $5 tip I gave him. Great business model if you can get away with it I guess and a super great way to treat your loyal customers.
