"You need a car"
The room we stayed in was really tiny in comparison with other hotels in LA. Westwood is not a convenient place unless you have a rent-a-car. During the time we stayed there, a British boy group was also staying there. Each day, teenage girls gradually gathered in front of the hotel and also inside of the hotel, which was really unpleasant. We wrote a complain letter after the trip, and the hotel reimbursed for the nights when the boys band was staying. Such an impressive hospitality. I always wanted to stay at W LA, but I am not sure if I would stay there again unless I have a reason around Westwood. Also, WiFi was not free of charge when I stayed there. Free WiFi was only available at the lobby, which was not convenient for international travelers.
I've been staying at this W every couple of years for the past 14 years. I've seen it change over that time, but it remains one of the trendiest and energetic hotels in my experience. Rooms have generous space and are very clean. The hotel grounds are picturesque (pool and cabanas are straight out of Entourage) and the location is as convenient as it gets in Los Angeles where nothing is really "central". If you're visiting UCLA there is no better accommodations. The only slight negatives are that the valet parking is expensive ($46 - tough given there aren't really options) and the bathroom fixtures are showing some age. I will keep coming back to this hotel, as it is my favourite in the area.
We had one day to kill before Coachella so decided to stay here. Brian was awesome checking us in! Went above and beyond to make sure everything was great. The room was a bit smaller than expected but we had everything we needed. Late night room service menu was disappointing. Our pizza was burnt, the cookies were hard and the turkey wrap was dry. Other than the food, I'd most definitely recommend. Oleg was just as great during my check out.
A friend and I just had a great experience at the W! The location was great and the entire staff was friendly and helpful. A special thanks to Cynthia Pham at the front desk! She was so personable and she added that special touch to our time at the W. I'm looking forward to staying here again!
"Totally Disappointing Stay; All Amenities We Love Unavailable!"
My husband and I just off of two weeks of straight travel (Cabo for pleasure and San Diego for business). We were really looking forward to our weekend at the W with my nephew during his spring break. We have stayed at this hotel numerous times before and always had a great experience. Here is what happened: *The Backyard poolside restaurant was closed for remodeling. There was no poolside service; you had to go up and place your food/drink order. The pool area, while busy, was not being maintained or clean; towels, chairs, and food containers everywhere! *I love Bliss Spa, but they were unable to accommodate me with an appointment. *We tried to make reservations for dinner at STK, our favorite steakhouse in Las Vegas, but it was closed for a private party. *Tried twice to have breakfast at the hotel, on their little patio area, but due to remodeling breakfast was served in STK, a dark, club-like environment. *The second night we called and asked if they offered turn-down service; they said yes and that they would do it; when we returned home after dinner -- no turn-down service and we had to call for fresh towels. *We purchased two hotel rooms -- one for me and my husband and one for my nephew (rooms 1420 and 1419). Although both rooms cost $334 a night minus taxes, our room was nicer than my nephew's by far. His room had no seating area and an older show/bathtub unit. *Shutters in the room woke us up early each morning, as sunlight streamed through. *In our room, 1420, we could hear everything our neighbors said through the vent in the ceiling, including their screaming children. And when I say every word, I mean EVERY word! My husband and I are both Marriott Gold members and he is an SPG elite member who travels frequently for business. He called with our complaints and asked the Concierge to have the manager call him back; never happened! Other items to note: daily valet parking is $46 and watch your in-room refreshment bar usage; a tiny bag of PopChips was nearly $8. Most of all, we were disappointed that all the amenities for which we come to the W Los Angeles were closed and unavailable to us -- and even more disappointed that we weren't told any of this when we made the reservation or checked in! We were also disheartened that my nephew's room, while the same cost as ours, had not been upgraded! Both rooms smelled musty and needed a renovation! Will we ever stay here again' No, not unless the hotel addresses and acknowledges our complaints. We were very said and disappointed that our home-away-from-home in LA was totally inaccessible to us regarding the restaurants and spa.
