i checked into the w and was very pleased with the hotel its very hip ,i have stayed at the hotel many times before with no probs ,apart from one time last year, which the hotel put right by upgrading me to a suite (1409) which was lovly and large, exsept it was a little worn in parts damaged wall papper and table, but nothing to much to complain about. The room service menu was exspensive but i new that but the food was good. i will be returning to the hotel in june 17 and again in dec17 all in all fab hotel in the right part of town, 1 point no resterant it was closed for re-furb
"Horrible Customer Service"
I had an issue with my reservation - the W Downtown was inflexible, demeaning, uncooperative and lacked professionalism. I would never recommend staying at this hotel because if you have an issue, the current team at the hotel will not assist you in resolving it.
"Ultra modern, big rooms, surprisingly quiet"
Starwood/Marriott platinum member so got a nice corner king room on the 15th floor for a two night stay. Hotel is hip, modern, geared towards young professionals. Pros: Very quiet - didn't hear any other guests during our stay. Really nice shower. Really comfortable bed. Ability to control the HVAC to make sure it stays on and doesn't cycle noisily or use a motion sensor. Convenient location right across from the 9/11 memorial and lots of metro lines. Nice check in staff. Cons: The blinds aren't very effective - they are on a pulley system that lets lots of light from the corner of the windows seep into the room. Without curtains, the blinds themselves just can't make the room dark. Bring an eye shade or throw a shirt over your eyes and you're good. I'd absolutely stay again.
"My kids' first club experience"
This hotel is an experience! I know the W brand is sophisticated and irreverent at the same time, but are all W's like this' The lobby is on the 5th floor and resembles a night club. Check-in was a breeze and was strictly transactional - no emotion from the front desk attendant. "Welcome. You're on the 10th floor. Here are your keys. Your wifi login is your name and room number. Enjoy your stay." Hahaha. Adjacent to the lobby is the bar, where a DJ spins tunes every night. It converts to a self-serve coffee and tea bar in the morning. Lobby restrooms are gender-neutral (one row of toilet stalls and sinks for everyone) so don't use the lobby restroom if this weirds you out. The rooms are small but very well laid out and organized. Every inch serves a purpose and every piece of furniture has a function. The only problem was that the mattress rests on a plastic platform without any kind of rubber mat between them. So, if you sit up in bed to work, read, or watch TV, the mattress slides down, leaving a gap between the mattress and the headboard. Location is excellent. The entire downtown area is easily accessible by foot. Subway access is nearby as well.
