"Solid choice for a NYC hotel at the rate we paid"
Purchased through Hotwire and pleased with the value we got for the rate paid. Asked for a high floor and received it (thank you!). Also requested the reservation be put on my SPG account even though we couldn't get points, but wanted to use mobile room key. Didn't happen despite making arrangements for it in advance. Also requested a tower view (One World Trade) and didn't get that either. Good location for walking to attractions and the subway. Lobby is always dark and more of a club than sitting area. Example of this were a group of men interviewing for positions with the hotel and they couldn't read the documents at 9 am because it was so dark in the space. Overall the room was what we needed - clean and well appointed. Plenty of outlets to plug things in. Having said that, the advertising and 'trendy' nature was annoying at times. For example, the desk was filled with papers of information and their minibar offerings. Ended up moving all of this for the majority of our stay. Bathroom was fine but counter space is almost non-existent. Only one nightstand in the room which made it tough for someone else I was with to put their glasses or water down for the night. Did love the window bench though and used it to scan e-mail while looking at the city. One more quirk was the wind noise - the Saturday night we were there was really windy in NYC and every inch of the room made noise (creaking) the entire night. Not a big deal - just strange. Front desk staff was always friendly when we asked for basic directions or info on getting around. Gym was bigger than most hotel offerings and served its purpose the three days I used it. Overal a great experience for the four nights we were there. Check out the burger bar at the competing hotel just across the street - great food and atmosphere.
"First Stay W Downtown"
Nice typical smallish NYC room with modern amenities. best feature was the Bar that overlooks WTC 1 Building off the fifth floor. Very cool. Happy Hour specials. Nice view from the 20 something floor we were on on skyline.
"good, but dont expect anything special"
stayed here for 1 night and did enjoy the stay. as we were here during the weekend, the area was quite calm. the hotel itself was nothing special, not according to other W properties that i know. what does make it worthwhile is the staff, Tracy at the Welcome Desk handled our check in very smoothly and gave us all the necessary info while having a nice conversation. secondly, Andrew Brown at the Concierge recommended us great restaurants that were all amazing, and gave us some good tips for us, as we were first time visitors to NY. All in all, nice hotel in a calm neighborhood with amazing staff.
"Worst hotel lobby!"
Hotel entrance is a black hole...literally painted all black. There is no indication when you arrive that you have to go to 5th floor to check in. Fifth floor lobby just makes you dizzy with black floors and walls and lighting. Rooms are all white and cold. Bathroom only had shower which was poor. Bed was ok but that was only redeeming quality. Location not great for tourists.
"stunning views, stunning service"
okay - my big three safe, quiet & clean - great marks on all 3 - extremely helpful, friendly staff !!! - the only complaints are the rooms - they are roomy enough especially for nyc - but not user friendly for guests - the rooms are dark - i know they are supposed to be hip spaceship styled rooms - but come on even hip, spaceship women need good light to put on their makeup - the glass shower window/partition to the bedroom was a bit weird - and the sliding door on the bathroom never really stayed shut - i would stay here again if the price was right - the location near ground zero and trains was superb - but i know some of these things can't be changed but if they could they should be
