Wonderful Hotel perfectly located in the downtown financial district with panoramic views over the World Trade Center Memorial park and One World Trade Center. I loved this area! It's so much less hectic and chaotic than midtown plus with multiple subway stations nearby, it's very easy to get anywhere in the city quickly. We were upgraded to the "cool corner" room and it lived up to its name. We loved the room, it was spacious for NY standards, very comfortable bed, perfectly clean and new, with a great bathroom and shower. The best part was the long window seats that wrapped the corner. The views from the 15th floor were incredible. The lobby is a bit unusual, it's more of a club atmosphere, but we enjoyed the vibe. It was certainly a popular place on the weekends. In all, I would highly recommend this hotel if you are looking for a great NY experience away from the tourist hustle and bustle of Midtown.
"Nice rooms, annoying lobby"
A mixed bag in my opinion..... The Good: Rooms are lovely and some have a great view over the 9/11 memorial site Excellent location for downtown attractions The Not-So-Good: No information provided at check-in re hotel facilities etc. None in the room either.....a map of the local area at least would be nice! No coffee making facilities in the room - not fun to have to go to the lobby to get coffee in the morning, especially if you are jet-lagged and awake at 4:30am. The decor in the lobby is irritating. Very dark and the reflection of the ceiling on the glossy floor makes you feel seasick every time you get out of the lift!
"My longtime favourite in NYC"
I stayed first in the W Downtown some years ago when I heard it had the same interior designers as the Q in Berlin - and I have been a returning customer ever since. The hotel hardly offers upgrades to suites (actually, I never had one), but the cool corner rooms are a true treat and so is the support of the guest relationship staff (thanks Casey for several wonderful stays). Do not get deterred by the location as downtown seems distant from midtown. Actually, it is easy to get to Jersey City and Hoboken (with very nice spots as well to spend time) and Newark Airport (as the Holland tunnel is near), and the subway brings you easily to other places in the city. Soho is even worth a walk. Of course, there have been requests, which have not been fulfilled, but the hotel has always made good on any slip on its side – which is not the average experience in NYC. Therefore, design and staff are my reason to make the W Downtown my favourite in NYC.
"Two thumbs up for the W!"
The W NY - Downtown gets two thumbs up and one big smile from this reviewer. It feels much like other W hotels, but the staff made our experience even better. They were so friendly and helpful. We were able to get a room overlooking the 9/11 Memorial which was beautiful. The location of this hotel is fantastic for events in downtown...walking distance to everything. We needed cab or subway for things like shows on Broadway. Rooms were clean and bed was very comfy! Would love to come back here when in NY again.
"What not to do"
I recently stayed there for a bday trip. I walked in and it was just beautiful, made me PROUD to be a starwood associate. Went to the room PERFECT. I had a little issue where the bed frame stuck out futhermore than the mattress itself. I scrapped my leg so bad I was just bleeding. So I did go to front desk where I was speaking to the Night auditor. I just kindly told her what happen and gave her the resolution of just sending maintenance up tomorrow. She was rather mean and cut me off and said " Theres no one here to fix that " So I disregarded it. THAN I asked for a band aid. She ignored my bleeding leg and said to wait 10 minutes for it. I work front desk as well and I would never treat my guest in a manner. She than had a confrontation with my personal guest where she denied them access to the room. They had ID and the card that was on file. She said that because their name wasn't on the RSVP she was not going to help them with a key. AGAIN - I work FD and I understand Breach of security is something that none of us want. But if there is valid proof of my guest being there she could of handled the situation better. Most night auditors don't have much customer service but I do expect more. She did not compensate nor did she apologize for the mistake.
