"Truly Amazing - Likely the Best W Beach Resort"
W Maldives Summary: a visual & culinary paradise! We’ve been to many beach resorts and this is easily in the top three – only challenged by Bora Bora and Lizard Island in Australia. It’s expensive, but worth it for this unique experience! Pro’s • The island is beautiful with pristine white beaches and opulent facilities. The snorkeling right off the beach is phenomenal with abundant reef fish, giant clams, as well as turtles, occasional dolphins, and reef sharks (harmless). Also, there are no islands close to the W (except their private islet, which you can rent for a day or afternoon), so the views are unobstructed like some isldn • The food is de-lish - more below • The staff is incredibly friendly and engaging – they really made our stay fun - our favorite waiters were Isko, Massey, and Ali. The kitchen staff standouts were Faru & Mahmoud - they took service with a smile to new heights by going above to ensure that our every culinary whim was satisfied & prompting suggestions on new dishes to try. Sam, who manages the wait staff was omnipresent and always stopping by for a friendly chat. Harun, the Housing Director and interim property manager, is cheerful. Our house attendant, Yasmin, did a great job of maintaining our hut and was very engaging. • The little extras are a nice-touch: the bottle of chilled Moet Hennessy in the room when you arrive, the sweet spots with ice cream & non-alcoholic drinks scattered throughout the island; the surprise afternoon treats delivered to the room each afternoon. Con’s • Any imperfections of the property or experience are so trivial I’d feel pedantic mentioning them. The closest thing to a suggestion would be that our deck could have used a refreshed stain job…or maybe that the music on pool party days was a little loud. Rooms • We stayed in a Beach Oasis (Room 124) and loved it. The surroundings are lush and the deck was a mere five steps from the beach. This is really unique and very hard to find in a resort anywhere. The room pictures are true to form and I loved lounging on the day bed next to the private pool. The 2nd floor deck gets good air and the swinging couch makes for the perfect afternoon escape with a favorite book. • Beach Oasis suggestions: The huts between the spa & Fish get great air (note that the winds shift with the seasons and any of those are great. Rooms around 126-128 have a very large beach out front and get sun well into the late afternoon, though they are near Fish, which blocks part of their view. I would avoid the huts near the jetty as you could pick up hints of diesel exhaust from the generators while walking by the huts nearest the jetty (not those near the spa), and also the seaplane lands at the jetty 1-2 times/day and is loud (though it’s only for a few minutes coming and going). • Over the water villas: e found these concrete & plaster huts to be a bit austere. We’ve stayed in overwater villas before and although they’re a fun novelty, we found the more verdant surroundings & Instant beach access of the Beach Oasis rooms preferable. Food • Breakfast is buffet-style served at Kitchen & featured a plethora of fresh fruit including papaya, pineapple, passion fruit, and mango (if they don’t have any ask Faru or Mahmoud and they’ll gin some up in seconds). Eggs are to-order and preparation was spot on. There’s a full selection of rotating accompaniments such as roasted potatoes, mushrooms, baked beans, bacon (hint: keep an eye out for the pork belly which was scrumptious). Pancakes on demand and all kinds of pastries sweets. You can dine indoor or outdoors, the latter offers table settings in the ankle-deep pool shaded by palms - our favorite. • Lunch is served either at Kitchen or on pool party days (Tues & Fri) you can order from the poolside grill. Dinner rotates between Fish, Fire (beach buffets), Kitchen, and Sushi Beat, which is surprisingly located sub-terrestrial with the hip vibe of a W designed bomb shelter). • Our favs were the various-themed feast buffets at Fire, which are held on the beach, are extravagant (on seafood festival night I managed my way through 3 lobsters, snapper filets, a heaping mound of tuna tartar, and some lamb rib chops to balance out the turf component). Sushi beat was excellent, and Fish was ok, but the menu didn’t read as well to us. Suggested activities: • Definitely snorkel: depart from the exit cut through the reef (marked by buoys) left of the spa - there’s a dramatic drop off there and is where we saw the turtle who swam right up to us as well as a reef shark. Continue on around the island to the cut-in located past Fish. • Sunset cocktail: there’s a outdoor lounge facing the sunset at Fish - arrive by 6. • Be sure to accept the invite to the private island reception, usually the day after you arrive…who could turn down a happy hour of chilled Moet Hennessy on a private islet! It’s also a great venue to meet the staff & management and get a better feel for Maldivian culture
"Dream island holida"
We chose the W Resort and Spa to celebrate our 15th Wedding Anniversary. It didn't disappoint. We were looking for a fabulous in house reef, overwater villa with pool and as we were traveling without children we wanted an adults only island. The Resort delivered above our expectations although we have heard that they have recently relaxed their adults only policy. We shall miss the beautiful blue, clear and warm water bursting with tropical fish of all sizes and varieties. I got to tick turtles off my bucket list. The in house reef is simply spectacular. Our overwater villa with pool was jaw dropping. The attention to detail was incredible. The island is small and easy to navigate. The cleanliness in all aspects of the hotel deserves commending. The service is second to none. Lonsi, Oudi, Gateau and Isco are friendly, professional assets to the W Brand. They made us feel part of the W family and couldn't do enough to make sure our stay was enjoyed to the fullest. We have never experienced such hospitality before! Kat from the dive centre took us snorkeling and swimming with the manta rays. She too went above and beyond. The Resort food was mind blowing! Each restaurant has an extensive menu and wine list and it was just impossible to choose from such mouth watering choices. Although it is a quiet month the W Resort still delivered on entertainment. Pool parties with resident DJ, pink flamingo inflatables and bubble machines, BBQ market on the beach evening and a Valentine's special dinner all over the 5 nights we were there. The transfers from airport- sea plane and bus were brilliant. Everything is taken care of. Sadly we weren't expecting it to be windy but it didn't deter us from enjoying snorkeling trips and our swim with the manta rays. The lagoon facing villas are more sheltered. As we sit in the airport lounge on our way home we are already scheming how to get back to this island paradise soonest.
From arrival to departure this place amazes. The attentiveness of the staff is mind-blowing yet it feels so effortless. The island itself is very organised, clean and it is surely one of the best places for snorkelling and diving. The cool vibe, constant chill-out music playing on the island truly makes it one of my memorable stays!
We stayed in an overwater Fabulous Lagoon bungalow with private pool in February 2017. Our room was perfect - amazing view, private, great aircon, comfortable bed, etc. We were incredibly impressed with the perfect service at the resort. This is the best service we have ever received! Every need was taken care of. We were so impressed with the friendly, attentive staff, our room was cleaned several times a day when we would be out for excursions or meals. The "Whatever Whenever" promise was definitely true! The food at the resort was some of the best we have ever had, from the Fish restaurant, to Kitchen, to the Maldivian BBQ night on the beach, and the breakfast....very impressive, although expensive, but that is understandable considering everything must be shipped in. The spa is amazing and a beautiful location, and the snorkeling from our room, and also around the resort (especially between the Spa and FISH restaurant was incredible)...every morning we would see countless baby sharks swimming near the beach...and a larger shark plus many beautiful fish just under our bungalow (even through the in floor viewing window)...The reef is wonderful. From the time we arrived at the airport we were taken care of perfectly - easy arrival, short wait at the lovely W airport lounge, and then a short seaplane ride to the hotel. The only thing that we would have changed was one day the music down at the main pool was very loud (thumping club music!), but they did note that they were having a pool party that day. We just turned our music up on the Bose system they provided at our bungalow and kept relaxing. We loved the mix of island, but perfectly taken care of, and also the W style added in. The free water/soda/juice and ice cream "stations" throughout the island were a nice touch also.
"Nice experience "
The resort is beautiful and villas are amazing... with clear water front and private pools. Staffs are professional and the service is very personalized. The villa rate is quiet expensive and we were disappointed with food choices and half board option as it is not explained during reservation that when you choose halfboard you have a different restaurant menu with limited options unlike normal restaurant menu. There are only3 restaurants , one is a dinner buffet and not every day. Food options are very limited. Breakfast buffet is nice as well as seafood buffet. Overall experience was nice.
