"perfect stay, food pricy"
Perfect stay, amazing staff, very cool designer rooms. Service outstanding. Breakfast excellence. Sometimes you hear music in your room from the pool party or residence DJ’s. I don't mind because I know all “W” hotels are a bit more active on those things. Fine with me. Only small thing:If you read the commends on tripavisor, lots of guest do mention the price of food. I agree with this and have one small wish: The food menu are very fancy and you have to be an atomic scientist to understand the menu. Keep things simple. I would recommend to include for every restaurant 2-3 simple dishes, because after some time, you may just feel like having the food of your grandmother instead of fancy caviar.. We enjoyed our stay and will come back. Thx for the nice stay. Well done
"Fabulous - but no more WOW"
Our 4th time at this resort since 2009. I still believe it is one of the finest and best situated resorts in the Maldives. Superb snorkelling grounds and the recent refurbished "retreats", as they call the bungalows, make for a very relaxing setup. The staff however is lacking the little things W is known and famous for. It used to be normal to addressed by name, that little feature is gone. Also, the thought about going green hasn't reached housekeeping-or the talents how they're called here. Towels in the tub=change, on the rack=I'll use it again, they didn't get this memo. Meet with Raj on the deck of the Away Spa at 6am for an hour of sunrise Yoga, followed by breakfast at Kitchen with a glass of bubbly. Relax at the beach, go snorkeling, get ready for the famous W Pool Party at 1pm. Before Sunset book a 30 min boxing class with Mark. At 8:30pm it's time to head to 15below, one of the few nightclubs in this island paradise. DJ Ivan spins the decks, while mixologist Ghadir invites you to taste his lates creations. Life slows down when you spend time here. Still, there is lots of activities you can book and enjoy if you feel more active. However, it's now mostly Chinese guests at this resort. Since they don't show up for dinner (maybe it's not part of the package), restaurants and bars are deserted in the evening, despite almost full occupancy. 15 Below is now only open only 2 nights per week - it used to be 3. The "Insider" advertises "glowing" cocktails at 15 Below - but they are not available. A travel magazine advertised glow in the dark yoga - also not available. They stay in this island paradise is always relaxing but unfortunately the WOW factor is not there anymore. Watersports Center timings are only 8:30am - 5 pm, if you feel like an early morning stand up paddel - not possible. A little bit more flexibility would bring the WOW factor back. The staff do their best to accomodate requests and deal with suggestions. We were pestered by mosquitos outside our retreat - they helped/dealt with the problem. We are looking forward to come back - maybe things get back to WOW....
Having stayed in the Maldives before I had a bar set. The w Maldives exceeded expectations beyond what I could have ever imagined. Let's just start off with landing at male. W staff picked us up took us to the amazing seaplane lounge, took photos for us-we didn't even have to ask!! Offered us refreshments and gave us an expected wait time which was nice. We flew on the trans Maldivian air seaplane to the w-upon landing a line up of staff waving to us as we jumped onto the jetty. Greeted us by our names and spoke to us like they knew us forever. Whisked us away on the buggy showing us the magical island. We stayed in the ocean oasis sunset view it was gorgeous the reef was right along all the water villas which we didn't get that at the other resorts we've been to. We appreciate the sweet spots, as there was a huge difference in time zones so when we went for a stroll it was really nice to be able to grab something refreshing without any wait. The staff are amazing, I think this is their real value add here, I was talking to the staff at the pool and I loved the music being played and I wouldn't mind if I had some chocolates and muffins at that very moment. The next day after I returned to my villa from the gym there it was a note from the w team and my Chocolate and muffins were there along with the cd of the music I loved from the previous day. This is true attention to detail, the staff absolutely made this trip memorable. Thank you for a memory of a life time W Maldives! I will never forget this and I endeavour to return as soon as I can!!!
This place is absolutely amazing. Their slogan is whenever, whereever and they really mean that. Anything you request, they try their very best to make happen. The room is very private and we visited this place before our daughter so you can understand how important privacy is. The food, the spa, the beach, the private pool, everything was 100% perfect during this trip. I would love to visit but there's just too many places in this world to visit twice. If I had to choose one destination, it would be maldives and we are coming right back to this hotel.
"Stunning but completely overpriced"
Maldives was number 1 on my bucket list and I finally got there! I loved W hotels and have stayed in them in Hong Kong, Taipei, Seattle and New York. It was an easy choice to pick the W in the Maldives. It was a stunning location and the rooms and facilities were stunning. However, I think it was overpriced for what it was and there are cheaper accommodation options available in the Maldives. The Maldives is a stunning place and if I had my time again I would have chosen a cheaper option. Whilst the service was ok and the staff generally accommodating, friendly and helpful I am not sure I would rush back to W hotels. I got extremely sick with a respiratory infection and fever during the trip and the doctor on the island gave me some medication. I was so sick I could not leave the room for dinner and ordered some room service (nothing extravagant). On check out I asked if it could be included in the very expensive half board option we had paid for as dinner was included and was advised that no it was too bad. After spending close to US$15,000 for 5 nights you would think that the least they could do was include a $130 meal that we had already paid for! The staff were so dismissive and could not care less. It was all about how much money they could make! Think carefully about the tours on offer as well. Sunset dolphin cruise = no dolphins. Exorbitantly priced snorkelling with the Whale Sharks = no whale sharks. Oh but we did speed by dolphins so apparently that made it better. They did give us one complementary jet ski for 30 minutes (for two people!) to try and make us feel better but that would have been about 5% of the cost of the whale shark tour. Thanks for your generosity.... won't be back sorry.
