"Not Really A Renaissance Hotel"
While this hotel has the name Renaissance...it is definitely not a Marriott property. I am a Lifetime Platinum Rewards 130+ nights in Marriott hotels this year. This is NOT a Rennaisance hotel. I asked the staff and learned this is a former Starwood "W" property that switched brands a year ago. Marriott should be more careful when splashing it's brand around with the new acquired properties. How did this property disappoint..let me count the ways: 1) Lobby was a weird Alice-In-Wonderland combination of very large mirrors and bright colors. Not your normal Marriott experience. 2) The elevator lobby was dark...as in the lights needed to be replaced - or turned on. 3) The hallways of the lodging floor were lined with mirrors. Very different. 4) The room was ultra modern. What started as an interesting experience ended as an exploration in finding light switches and peeling paper off of particle-board furniture that had been painted with water-based paint that remained "tacky". The electronic heating and cooling control was motion-controlled, so the room was hot when I entered and never cooled off. 5) The bathroom was decently updated with a weird combination of sconces, back-lit mirrors and spotlights. The bathroom exhaust fan was very effective. 6) The bedding was the only normal thing in this room. The pillows and mattress were great and didn't have a hint of dips. In spite of my experience, the staff at the front desk was aiming to please. When I'm back downtown in San Diego, I will definitely NOT stay at this property that is seemingly having an identity crisis. Marriott should be more careful to not dilute the brand when ingesting the newly acquired Starwood Brand.
First, nice decor of the lobby, I did not find any torn furniture (!) Second, the stuff is really helpful & kind , anytime of the day or night, they have all taken the same lessons of hospitality. Great breakfast, the persons serving too helpful, the person in charge of luggage really helpful, the managers. Great view.

"Beyond Impressed "
I went to San Diego with a girlfriend to do the Susan G. Komen 3 day 60 mile walk. We checked in and went to the bar to celebrate and that is when I realized that my wallet with my ID credit card and several hundred dollars was missing. I had nothing and was freaking out! The manager spoke with my dad and had a taxi waiting for me to take me to the closest cvs to receive a money wire. We then came back to the hotel where they treated us to a glass of wine and helped us order pizza for delivery. We then went to our room where they had sparkling water and chocolate covered strawberries waiting for us, along with a card that said smile and we hope that your day gets better! Of course the tears started flowing and I rushed down to the lobby to hug everyone that was so sweet and helpful! I will always stay at the renaissance when I visit San Diego and you should too!!! The staff and hotel is beyond amazing!!! They made a super stressful time a lot easier and I'm so thankful!
Stayed here on a Saturday night. Free On street parking was allowed starting at 6 pm so we didn't need to park in the garage. Room and hotel is spacious and contemporary. The only drawback was the faucet handles in the bathroom being too loose, but not a big issue. Silver elite and higher get a complimentary breakfast. Nice touch. Walking distance to Little Italy.
