"Kelvin Restaurant excellent "
We ate last night in hotel lobby. Food from chef Timmy was great. Perhaps best salmon I have had. Server Tyson was great too! Wonderful evening in downtown San Diego. Second time we have eaten here and all the food has been good. Good size portions as well. My wife and I split a meal and had plenty
"Very modern looking hotel"
Very nice room, very quiet and comfortable, loved the window seat. Bed was comfortable. I liked NOT having a bathtub and just a walk in shower. I didn't try any of the amenities such as the restaurant or the pool/bar area. Very close to the trolley which I used to get around the city and access the convention center. Would definitely stay here again. Although the parking fees are outrageous but that seems to be the same everywhere.
Helpful desk staff and door staff Wi fi in room would improve but is available in foyer Dark foyer could be improved with brighter light and additional seating and table room Close to transport train bus and tram
"Started very bad but management made it wonderful in the end."
We showed up for a 2 night stay in what was supposed to be a high floor suite. When we arrived the staff was very accommodating and the bar tenders were phenomenal! You have to try a Jalapeno infused margarita... When we went to the room our keys did not work, so we went down stairs and they reissued them, after 4 trips back and forth a manager finally came up with us thinking we were just too stupid to use the lock... after 20+ tries he was finally able to make it work. He assured us it would work from now on... He was incorrect. someone had to repeatedly let us into the room and it took up to 15 minutes on several occasions. They could have just changed our room, or the lock. Once in the room on the 8th floor it was very disappointing, the room was tiny, no refrigerator, no hot tub, no view, no hot water, TV didn't work... it honestly was a decorated storage closet. I work in the industry and didn't want to call in favors but this was ridiculous. I called the front desk and told them we would be back to the hotel at 11 PM which gave them 8 hrs to fix the hot water issue or find us a room with hot water. When we returned there was still no hot water the lock still didn't work and we were feeling pretty frustrated. I called the front desk again and voiced my complaint. the night manager immediately moved us to a very nice and roomy 16th floor corner suite with a view and apologized for our inconveniences. The rest of our stay was fun and pleasant despite the sparse amenities.
"The staffs are great, but............"
I just checked in to the hotel less than 30 minutes ago. I was originally checked in to the room 1908 (the top floor), the room stinks like a bathroom and the floor somehow was really noisy, maybe it's the fan since it's the top floor' So I went back to the front desk and requested to switch to a different room. Now I'm at room 1712 and it smells nice, no weird noise, but the room is definitely dated. From the pictures on the website the room looks really great, but rust me, if you pay attention to details you can tell it is an older room and the walk kinda have some stains on it. I'm guessing the hotel will be undergoing a much needed renovation soon so if next time I get an opportunity to stay here I will surely update my review. Now go on to the best part - The valet person was very nice to let me know of the parking situation around the hotel (there's only valet parking available for $47 per night; they must've changed it somehow since I remember I saw $40 valet). The person who checked me in, Bruce, was one of the nicest receptionist I've encountered. I would expect more from a Renaissance, maybe cuz I just stayed at the Pulse San Diego last week which just underwent a renovation thus the rooms are SO MUCH NICER.
