Hotel is what you would expect of W. lobby and rooms are elegant and modern. Stayed here for 2 nights. Location is not ideal, as it is bits out of the way from all the tourist attractions. Concierge desk was very helpful in arranging the tours for us. Overall great property and will recommend and stay next time when I am in Seoul.
I stayed at the W Walkerhill in October during my first trip back to Korea in eight years. Eight years ago, I only stopped by the W bar and it was so cool - the scene, the people, and the service. It was THE it spot then. I was looking forward to finally staying there and found my visit to be disappointing. The Good Things: - View - We stayed in a Fabulous Spa Room on the top floor with a full river view. It was incredible! - Location - I appreciated that it was tucked away from the business of being right in the city center. - Cleanliness - Did not have to worry about this at all. Misses: - Room - The Fabulous Room felt outdated. The closets and drawers were either loose and slammed shut. Look a little closer at the ceiling or the tiles and you'll see that they are cracked. The overall layout felt awkward. - Room amenities/minibar - The W was hotel #3 during our Asia tour. Bathroom basics such as toothbrushes and toothpaste, even travel sewing kits, had always been complimentary until the W. I felt very nickel-and-dimed. - Service - The hotel staff for the actual hotel room - room service, cleaning staff, etc - were great. However, be warned that you should "look the part" for elevated service particularly at the bar and valet parking. Also noting that when I went to the bar, there was no one there. It was very early on a Sunday evening. - Breakfast buffet - this was included in our rate. The restaurant location and view is amazing. The buffet looked impressive at first glance but the food sadly was forgettable. I wish I had not "wasted" a meal there, especially with all the amazing food Korea has to offer. I was expecting sophisticated service with a trendy edge, what I've come to expect from the W brand. Unfortunately, this W is past its prime. The Sheraton next door looked more attractive.
"Fabulous, as always"
Have to visit W Seoul one of my favourite hotels, at least once every few years (I probably have stayed there over 30nights in the past 7 years). Totally stylish, chic, love the breakfast, the views and the wonderfully styled room. The service is super amazing, upon my departure I already made a mental note to come back again but that's when I got the biggest shock - a familiar W staff told me it's no longer W anymore from next year'!' Sad...but hopefully it still remains so wonderfully chic and W !
"The W Walker Hill in Seoul is stylish, modern and you absolutely should not stay here."
I was ready to love this hotel, it is very nicely designed and the staff is friendly. And I am almost ready to forgive this luxury hotel for not giving me free wifi - if it isn't also painfully slow, which sadly it is. The dealbreaker for me however was discovering that they nickel and dime for every last item. The minibar is ridiculously overpriced and this is the absolute first hotel I have ever stayed at that did not provide a free toothbrush and toothpaste. You read that right - the W hotel in Seoul makes you buy an expensive dental hygiene set (it's packaged, you can't just buy the toothpaste or brush). This indicates to me that the hotel owners do not have the pleasant experiences of their guests at heart but merely squeezing as much profit out of them as possible. And for that reason I shall not return.
"Always good to be at W Hotel"
This is my second stay at W Hotel. My first stay is at W Taipei. Location wise, W Seoul is a bit distant from the city and I have to take a hotel shuttle to the metro station. But it also means you have much quieter stay compared to living in the downtown. There is a casino right beneath the hotel so in case you are interested. In terms of room, I was given a corner room which has a fabulous view of the Hangang River. The design is very W-like, chic and luxurious. I like the red bathrobe! They certainly has top-notch service. My check-in was done at SPG desk. The gentleman is kind and patient. He also answered me nicely when I asked him how to go from the hotel to Gyeongbokgung. And the staff seem remembering my face and name. When I walked into the hotel lift next day. A lady manager greeted me with my name and asked me how the trip to Gyeongbokgung was. How thoughtful! I'm just a SPG gold member, not even platinum. I appreciate their effort. They also provided me some first aid and medicine when I cut my finger a little and called the room service. That's a very nice gesture too. On a side note, their bar has the longest bar table in South Korea. Worth checking out!
