The W in St. Petersburg lives up to their standards of thinking of every detail to make your stay comfortable. The rooms are modern and comfortable. The staff is very friendly and will do anything to make you feel at home. Breakfast is not included. The spa is nice, but very small and the floor is very slippery. And, yes, the location is amazing. The only thing that I didn't like, my room was on the top floor. The nightclub is on the rooftop and the only access is from the guest floor. There was little to no control over the guests visiting the bar who had access to the guest floor. As a single woman I did not feel secure in that environment and I wouldn't stay there again.
"Fantastic location, very friendly staff"
The W is located in the heart of St. Petersburg, minutes away from the Hermitage or from the plaza where the Leninist Russian Revolution began. We were upgraded to a top floor. The staff is exceptionally friendly. A great hotel choice in this great city.
"I'm not usually a W fan...."
...but the W in Saint Petersburg is as stunning as the city it serves. Maybe because it felt lighter and airier than other W properties (maybe it's my age, but I always feel like I'm in a nightclub when I'm walking to my room) but this felt like the sort of edgy luxury that the hotel chain aspires to. Rooms were a good size and the staff were very friendly.
We spent 6 nights at this W Hotel which has modern decor and a casual atmosphere. About the Hotel staff - very friendly especially James who was very enthusiastic and cheerful and took the initiative to assist in whichever way he could. One bell attendant (an older gentleman who looked somewhat Asian) was super welcoming and gave us the warmest greetings all the time, the other attendants were a bit stern. Staff were terrific at the restaurant where we had our buffet breakfast. However, we found the concierge desk a bit lacking. One morning we requested a lady at the desk to make a lunch reservation for 1pm for the same day, and we asked her to email us to confirm if the table was available. It was 12 noon and we still didn't hear from her. Btw, the restaurant opens at 11am. So we emailed them to ask if they could change our reservation to 12:30pm. No response. We decided to go straight to the restaurant. We arrived at 12:30pm and got a table. Around 1pm when we were already eating, got an email from the concierge which said "everything ok'". I guess so... About our room - We had the Spectacular Room, not big but adequate. Decor was consistent with the style of the hotel. I love contemporary but the furnishings of the room were a bit too "Ikea" for me. Bedside tables were impractically small. The shower head was fixed at a position quite low (even for not-tall people like myself), so you have to hold it in your hand if you want to use the shower head, or stoop to adapt to the affixed shower head. The other alternative was the rain shower, but it's not "pouring rain", it was "drizzles" which was very unsatisfying. The light controls of the room were tricky, actually not very intelligent in our opinion, or maybe we were unintelligent, not the switches. My gravest complain was the heating in the room. It was very uncomfortable. We had to turn the thermostat down to 17C (it wouldn't go any lower) yet it was still unbearably hot, so much so that we had to open the windows (-1C outside) to air out the room. We didn't have this problem with our hotel in Moscow. About dining at the hotel - buffet breakfast was ok, not a lot of variety though. However, they offered the exact same food during the 6 mornings we were there, a bit boring. On night after the ballet, we went to Cococo for a light meal coz it was already quite late. To our surprise, the soups we had were remarkably good. We also ordered a dessert called grandma's plant or something, which looked interesting.
Very happy with everything. Room is nice, bed is super comfy, nice toiletries, love the lighting, size is just right: not huge, but spacious. Good breakfast, there is the buffet and you can order a cooked dish. We stayed 5 nights so 5 breakfasts, all great except 1 of the 5 days, maybe there was a big group staying, the breakfast room was packed, we were lucky to get a table as somebody was leaving, the waitresses were so stressed out, but they still took great care of us, brought us everything we asked for: they were so stretched and I would not blame them if they miss something, so great job! Best thing is location, can walk to many major sights.
