Room was quite small. Location was good. Service was excellent.Comment of T. Tam , Australia the 2016-01-10
Whimsical room was lovely, but stairs were quite steep. While the breakfast options were limited, and this was made up by the quality of the food. Ropm prices were not cheap as compared to other luxury hotels in town, perhaps even more expensive.
"Not a design hotel."
This hotel should not be part of the SPG portfolio. The rooms are too small and not confortare (the bed may be entered only for 1 side) and there is not enough space to open a trolly or to hang on a men suit in the wardrobe. Rooms are noisy from other guests and the street. Common areas are again not enough and shabby. Bar closes at 22.30 as well as the pricy restaurant -which is managed separately and room cannot be charged. Generally the decor is just pretentious and would be considered vintage more than design elsewhere. Reception staff is nice and friendly. The area around is targeted maily to backpeckers. I would not book here having in mind an SPG standards hotel.
"Perfect for a couple nights"
My wife and I stayed in one of the "Whimsical" rooms (the Treehouse) for a couple nights. Any longer and I think we might have gone insane: While we had booked the largest category of room, it is *really* small, as in too small to open two suitcases at the same time. The room comprises two parts: 1) a lower area with a toilet, shower/tub combo, sink, small work desk, two chairs, and another desk with a TV and coffee machine; and above that, 2) a small lofted bedroom with a platform bed, wall-mounted TV and not much other space. Now, I've been in small hotel rooms but this one is one of the least efficiently designed. For such a small room, you have a full tub, relatively large toilet area, TV and sitting chair taking up valuable real estate. Is anyone really sitting in a molded plywood chair to watch TV next to the toilet and sink when there's a perfectly good TV in the much more comfortable bed, or a whole city to explore' Probably not. Aside from my issues with the layout, there is some wear-and-tear in the room; the stairs are very steep -- much more like a ladder (better to descend facing them and holding the railings); and lighting is poor. All that said, the design *is* funky, the location is great (in Little India, close to Arab Street, and a very short walk to a subway station), the Handy phone is a lifesaver and the rates are reasonable.
"We enjoyed the eclectic hotel but might not be for everyone."
I had my reservations, no pun intended, when I booked the Wanderlust, given the rooms with neon signs and seeing it featured on The Layover with Anthony Bourdain as being a hipster trendy hotel but the location and the price was too hard to pass up. Upon check in it did disappoint. The rooms are as picture modern and minimalistic but very functional and the bed extremely comfortable and rooms come stocked with usual amenities, and a bonus refreshments are included such as soda, juices, water and a Nespresso coffee. The location is situated in the outskirts of Little India however within walking distance to Tekka Hawker Center, Mustafa, Electronics Mart, 2 MRT stations and many bus lines that offer quick access to all the obligatory sights Singapore has to offer. Staff was friendly, rooms are clean and comfortable and location was ideal and would definitely recommend and would stay there again.
"Great stay in Little India"
Two night stay, late check in on first night. Very eclectic design, somewhat unexpected considering the neighborhood. Booked a Mono room and staff upgraded us to a bigger room on the Mono floor which was great because we had large luggage. Very quirky design to the room, large bathtub situated right behind the bed. Liked the toiletries provided and the complimentary drinks and juices in the mini-bar. and the Nespresso and teas. Drinks they have you covered. Best thing is they give you a mobile phone that has unlimited data, i used it primarily to teether on my personal mobile. Aside from a restaurant and a hot tub, there isn't any other hotel amenities so I felt it was more for just rest and sleeping but it was okay for us because we came to sight see. And bed was really comfortable after a long day of walking. I personally like the area because of the amazing Indian restaurants and the Haji Lane area/ Bugis is close walk away. Great stay if you want to be away from the CBD area
