"Another great stay at Marriott Metro Center"
The location of this hotel is within walking distance of all the tourist attractions. And when you are tired of walking the metro stop is literally right out the door. On site restaurant is fantastic and the indoor pool is always a hit. Disappointed that they no longer have laundry facilities onsite, as that has always been a big plus for me when traveling with the family.
"Wonderful location for tourists, but pricey"
Exit the Metro Center station at 12th and G, and the hotel is 1/2 block north on 12. At Metro Center you can catch the Blue, Orange, and Silver lines. At the next Red line stop east, Gallery Place, add the Yellow and Green lines, so between those two stops you've got all of DC, Maryland, and Virginia covered (YMMV). The hotel: very nice, very clean. Rooms are standard size for any metropolitan area, that is, pretty tiny, but the goal at this hotel is to spend as much time as possible doing other things, including all activities Smithsonian, and touring the Capitol and White House (some day). The lobby has a bonafide Starbucks that draws plenty of business from inside and outside the hotel. The staff was very friendly. When we checked into the hotel the receptionist came out from behind the desk to shake our hands and welcome us to the property. Housekeeping and other staff were invariably friendly. In addition to its proximity to the Metro, the hotel is only several blocks east of the White House grounds, and four or five blocks north of the Mall and the American History and Natural History Museums. The Portrait Gallery is 3 blocks east. There are also a number of extremely good (high-ish end) restaurants within a 10 to 15 minute walk of the hotel, toward 15th street as well as Pennsylvania Ave. Definitely a good base of operations. However, it may be that Washington is in a different reality at this point in time. In other cities such as San Francisco, Seattle, or Chicago, a downtown Marriott hotel room is in the upper $200s. For us, over our four-night stay the room varied from $340 to $450. This cost is representative of a very nice room in a resort on a Caribbean or Hawaiian island, not in a 350 sq ft room in our capital.
"Nice place, nothing too special"
I was staying here for a business trip and the rooms are very nice. The hotel price was more than I would expect. Wifi is not free (annoying). The lobby is nice and there is a Starbucks. Gym disappointing.
"Comfortable room for overnight stay, pretty standard affair"
Stayed here overnight for a conference. Room is spacious with sofabed pullout. Bathroom is standard Marriott style and so is the room. Good # of outlets. Got comp for breakfast as Gold member which offers a good variety as well as custom made eggs/omelette. Staff is friendly. Good proximity to many locations.
"Very nice hotel with a great staff and a convenient location"
Although this may not be the most luxurious hotel in Washington, it gets very high marks for both location and service. The hotel is adjacent to Metro Center where a number of subway lines intersect so transportation is very convenient. The Mall with all of its monuments and museums is a very short walk away and there are plenty of restaurants within a four or five block radius of the hotel. Better yet are the hotel staff members who were, to a person, exceptionally friendly and helpful. Abby at the front desk helped me to secure a lovely room and Joe at the bell station helped me with my luggage as though he couldn't imagine anything he'd rather do. They both continued to greet me throughout my stay like I were a close friend. The hotel lobby was nothing special but the room was lovely with all of the conveniences one would expect at a Marriott, including a huge walk-in shower. Even though the hotel was on a busy street, my room was very quiet. The drapes seemed to block out all of the street noise.
