"Great location for business in central DC"
The location of the Marriott at Metro Center is great, not only if you have business near the White House. The food trucks parked outside around midday offer a great variety of lunch options, Macy's is opposite, as are cafés and bars. Overall it's a very good business hotel with a corresponding corporate look and feel, a Starbucks in (!) the lobby (sorry, America, but your obsession with Starbucks is incomprehensible to me as a European...), free wifi, good size rooms and staff ranging from average to exceptional (such as Kelly C., who made all the difference with her personal attention. Thanks again!). I see no reason why I wouldn't stay here again.
"Surprisingly Solid Marriott in Great Location "
I assumed this would be a run of the mill Marriott business hotel showing lots of wear and tear due to its location with staff offering obligatory service. But my weekend stay was pleasant. I was on the top floor (15) and the room was very quiet. The bed was super - a cushy pillow top feel with my requested feather pillows so no hard bed or worn mattress in my room. Great sleep. Room was very clean and looked to be redone in past few years. Bathroom had plenty of room and hot water. The room smelled a little moldy when entering but with the air and fan on, it was quite tolerable. Solid Starbucks in the lobby. They had concierge lounge but was too busy to get there. The staff was friendly. The PM doorman and bell staff had the best attitudes and could make anyone smile. I used mobile check in so getting in my room was fast. The housekeeper on 15 was hardworking and was just a delightful person. The gym was surprisingly well equipped - plenty of cardio machines. Dumb bells(only up to 50 lbs), circuit training equipment. Indoor pool that kids would like. The rowing machine was a little worn. BUT worked out for 1.5 hours so enough to keep you busy. You can be on the Metro platform waiting for a train within 8 minutes from leaving your room. One Metro Center Station is right next to the Marriott. There is another further down the street for Metro Center. So you can take the blue line to and from the airport and get on the other lines as well. Convenient. Cost was OK for the location in DC. Location Location Location. If you pay a prepayed rate, they will tack on about 30 bucks a night tax on departure. I had considered the JW Marriott nearby but probably not worth the extra expense as this place was perfectly fine. I give 4 stars as a relative rating as there are luxury hotels in DC that are better but at higher cost. But this place exceeded my expectations by competently supporting my stay.
"Greeat location in DC!"
Stayed here two nights on a combo business/pleasure trip. The location is terrific - Metro station right downstairs, White House a few blocks away, great restaurants in the neighborhood. Room was clean and well-appointed. Parking was a bit steep, but that goes with the area. Service was good all-around. I love Marriotts, and will keep this one in mind for my next trip to DC.
"BEWARE OF THIS HOTEL!!"
We are a family from the Philippines and have a confirmed booking for two (2) rooms for a three (3) nights stay in this hotel for April 18-21, 2017. We fully paid our hotel accomodation at the time that we booked it in the Philippines. Suprisingly, when whe checked in on April 18, 2017, we were told that the hotel is fully booked and instead offered to have us stay in another hotel 45mins away from downtown Washington DC being located in Maryland. In fact, a lot of guests with confirmed bookings were likewise turned away. We have been travelling a lot, and in different parts of the world and we have had oportunities to be booked at Marriot hotels. And this is the first time that we have been TURNED AWAY EVEN WITH CONFIRMED AND PRE-PAID ACCOMODATIONS. No amount of reasons were entertained by the front desk people who attended to us. WE SHALL NEVER BOOK IN ANY OF THE MARRIOT HOTELS ANYMORE AND WE ARE WARNING OTHER GUESTS INTENDING TO DO SO THAT YOU MIGHT ALSO BE BUMPED-OFF AND TURNED AWAY EVEN IF YOU HAVE A CONFIRMED BOOKING.
"Tired and in need of rehab"
I stay at Marriott (and now Starwood) hotels almost exclusively. This Marriott stay was OK, but just barely. Check-in staff were friendly and quick--even with a crowd of tourists. I checked in earlier in the day using the Marriott app, but staff still had to go through the regular check-in procedure. I got my room key and went to my room. Upon opening the door I was overwhelmed by the smell of mildew. I returned to the desk and they explained that when it rains (as it had the previous few days) the rooms sometimes get that way. Nonetheless, they put me in a different room. Upon opening the door to my new room I was accosted by the same smell--though not as overpowering. I mentioned it to the desk, and they shrugged, clearly waiting to see how strongly I was going to object before doing anything. Being too tired to raise too much of a fuss, I let it go. In retrospect, I should have pressed for yet another room. The gym is just OK. Cardio equipment (elliptical and treadmills) are rusty and creaky. Could definitely use some rehab. Did not try the pool. Location of Starbuck on the lobby level is very convenient, as is the overall location of the hotel. There are plenty of restaurants and shopping options nearby if you feel the call. However, pending this hotel's re-fit and mildew remediation, I will select the nearby Renaissance or Marquis the next time I need a room in NW.
