"Bad smell from the bathroom."
There was a bad smell coming from the bathroom pipe work. I think the drainage pipe work needs a good flush out. The smell was quite strong, it kept me awake. Nice old building, friendly staff and a convenient location.

"Amazing British-feel Hotel"
We spent two wonderful nights here at this convenient, beautiful and reasonable hotel. It was very cool in late April, so cannot judge AC, etc. You can cut thru the lovely Retiro park, safe and frequented by lots of visitors, to the museums. From the welcome the minute the cab arrived--greeted by a man in silk top hat--it was a warm and delightful stay. The room and bath was as lovely as the picture. A very comfortable king-sized bed, loads of space to unload, generous closets and a dazzling two sink bathroom. (Well you have to get used to the robust water pressure--it tends to splash the first time you use it.) The lobby and the parlor rooms were so comfortable that when a wedding party arrived for pics, it took me a moment to remember that I wasn't part of it. The adjacent bar was a terrific plan B. We didn't have breakfast there--too pricey, but ate at 2 different breakfast spots directly across Valesquez street--Arugula was the name of one and a second one with more choices, directly opposite the Wellington. We would have stayed longer but the World soccer match descended and every hotel went to $1000's a night. But it is otherwise very reasonable and tremendously comfortable. They are also very attentive to answering emails in advance and we were able to get timely information even before our trip began.
"You Cant Go Wrong"
I stay here whenever I am in Madrid. It is verry well located and i believe the extra cost compared with similar offers (and you may find that its not that much more pricey) is worth it. Overall rooms are sound, beds are excellent and bathroom is solid. Some rooms are a bit small, but still good. Staff arw very helpfull and profesional. If you are ok with spending a bit extra I recomend you include the 24hr VIP louge which gives you access to food and drink whenever in a very well run lounge. The Wellington has been the traditional hotel for bull fighters -not sure if this is still the case. Verry good hotel. I cant reccomend it enough.
8 nights at the WH. Travel has resulted in approximately 10 years of my life (3,650 days) staying in hotels from ultra high end resorts to box with a roof all over the world. I have seldom experienced the enthusiasm for service exhibited by the front desk staff at the Wellington. Besides the highly professional and prompt attention to every need and detail, the desk is actually staffed with enough personnel to meet the needs of multiple multi lingual guests at one time. Seemed to be 4 or 5 staff members always on hand just at the desk, PLUS countless other staff throughout the lobby and beyond. Every request was met with immediate attention and detailed follow through, no matter how benign. Room was well appointed with a most comfortable bed and pillows. Shower a treat, amenities well done. I tend to pay attention to the little details, with the thought that if those are noteworthy, the big stuff will be fine. Such is the case at the Wellington. For example, shampoo is luxurious, not watered down. No view to speak of but we are in the city, not above it. Highly recommend adding the breakfast and 7th floor as money well spent. Great European breakfast with everything fresh and pure, staff in 7th floor (Wellington Club) attentive and with personality. A negative experience in the bar/lounge as far as service - 4 people plus a manager on duty in our last evening in Madrid. we sat at a table for 1/2 hour while feeling invisible. Certain other people and tables received lots of attention, we had 0. Finally got up to leave and a staff member came over. I asked if perhaps we were sitting at a table that was not available for food and drinks, he absently told us we could indeed place an order. No further attention, even when our wine glasses were empty and dishes were the same. Too bad the management for the rest of the hotel does not have more oversight into the bar/lounge. Also, didn't feel that spending 20 Euro's on a single Scotch or Whiskey was appropriate for brands that are not all that rare. However, food is excellent if you can get it. Besides the bar/lounge, I would rank the Wellington as 6 stars out of 5 and will definitely recommend to my closest friends and relatives. Great job.
