"Nice Features and Staff But Too Pricey"
We stayed at the Westin Desert Willow on an introductory offer. Overall we had an enjoyable stay. The location is conveniently situated to attractions such as Coachella Valley Preserve El Paseo restaurants, and the Tram. The property is considered a four-star with pricing to match. Parking was $15 a day but we are Starwood Preferred so received a discount. Our villa was nice and well appointed (though characterless) with a kitchen and full size refrigerator. The housekeeping service was flawless and we slept soundly on the king size bed. Our room was adjacent to the golf course, so was quiet in the evening. In the morning we could hear construction on the other side of the golf course. The Main pool by the lobby is mostly well accommodated, and we enjoyed our pool day and lunch. The upper level is kid-friendly with a slide, so we opted for the quieter lower level more frequented by adults. Our only issue was lack of a restroom near the lower level and restaurant, as the closest one is through the upper level and in the building. We also visited the "Quiet Pool", which is a nice concept. But during our visit, were disturbed by the construction noise and smells immediately adjacent. This made us thankful our room separated from this area by the golf course. The property is extremely spread out, though golf cart shuttles are readily available. Our preference is to walk between the buildings. We noted that pathways are more conducive to vehicles than pedestrians, with main routes having sidewalks on one side only. We have stayed at other desert resorts with much better gardens and pedestrian pathways. My husband considered playing golf at the on-site golf course, but the pricing was prohibitive compared to other courses in the area. We wanted to look at the clubhouse, but would have needed to take a shuttle from the lobby, so did not have time. Our observation was that the course is beautiful but lightly used. If only reviewing the staff, I would have given five stars. Without exception, every staff person was professional and helpful, showing a true customer service ethic. This includes concierges, front desk staff, security, shuttle drivers, housekeepers, wait staff in the restaurants and everyone we came into contact with. And interestly, most or all look like they could be movie stars in their spare time. (We attributed this to the proximity to Los Angeles.) The Westin Desert Willow can be very proud of the calibre of their staff. This was our first trip to Palm Springs. All in all, we had an excellent stay but would probably not return due to the design of the property and the pricing.
Modern resort with excellent service from staff that remember you from previous visits (nice job, Joe!). As a timeshare property, the units are larger than typical hotel rooms with kitchens, etc. Having visited many of the resorts in the Palm Springs / Rancho Mirage / Palm Desert area, I find that I return more often to Desert Willow. The only drawback is that I believe they used too much concrete in the common areas, especially around the main pools, and there should have been more trees, etc. Note: parking is only included with a timeshare reservation. If you book on a nightly basis they will assess a fee for parking. And yes, this is just a money grab by Starwood and really shouldn't be acceptable by anyone. I believe the same may be true with Wifi.
"Nice facility, but...."
There are several very nice things about this Westin property, such as the entrance, main lobby, golf course (which is immaculate right now) and the overall architecture. The bed is very comfortable and the shower is great. Some suggestions for management: the appliances are very low end for a property such as this. The rooms are small; I make that comparison because we are also owners in Maui and there is a huge difference. I realize this property is one of the cheapest in the system and room sizes are not changeable; just some feedback for future projects. One thing we did enjoy was the Nature Walk through the property; interesting to learn about some of the local flora and fauna.
"Love Desert Willow"
We have been staying a The Westin Desert Willow since it opened. We normally stay between 6-8 weeks. The rooms are beautifully maintained as are the grounds, the pools and all aspects of the resort. Our grandchildren have stayed with us over the years and love the main pool area with the big slide. There are so many activities for the kids and with expert attention from Benedicte and her staff nothing is overlooked. We also met Dennis this year during our stay. With his oversight of the pool activities he and Bennedicte make a great team. Kathy and I really enjoy the Agave Grill. We love happy hour in the bar and the restaurant. Carlos is the head chef and does a wonderful job of creating a great selection of dishes to select from. You can also sit outside with a great view of the pool and the valley. There is also a ltttle hidden dining area outside with a wonderful fire place to keep you warm on the few cool evenings. If you like watching sports and having your favorite beverage, the Pool Bar is a great place. You can order anything off the Agave Grill menu and have it delivered to the Pool Bar. You will probably meet Galin a very hard working young man who delivers the food down to the bar or Alyn who so professionally takes your drink or food order. Joe and his staff can create anything you want and he even has a martini class each week that almost makes me want to start drinking martinis. We keep coming back to The Westin Desert Willow year after year because of all the people that work so hard to create a great experience for the guests. From Jim Moran who manages the resort so successfully to Emir that shuttles you to your room with a smile on his face to all the staff in housekeeping that keep our room so neat. The Westin Desert Willow is a great place for a family or for a couple just looking for a weekend getaway. With all the places travelers have to choose from our choice has always been The Westin Desert Willow in Palm Desert, California. Ken and Kathy
Westin is always a luxury to me. Superior staff going out of their way to make your stay satisfying and enjoyable. The facilities have it all, gym, swimming pools with attractions for children, library and activity room for young children, tennis table and tennis court, plenty to do. There is a great restaurant and a chic bar. The service is always VIP :) One bedroom villa is spacious, has a full kitchen, fantastic bed and bedding. All modern and clean. Landscape and the golf course are breath taking, plenty of hiking around the property. Loved it!
