"What happened to the 40% off second night'"
I have been reading the most recent reviews and I have been coming to this hotel for years the same week and I just found out it is under new ownership and no 40% 2nd night stay' What happened to that great offer! Does that offer no longer exist'
"GREAT stay and perfect location!"
Had a wonderful time here! The location is ideal, we did tons of walking and everything was easy to access. Pool was wonderful. We had breakfast here most mornings and always had great food and service. Beds are comfortable, rooms are spacious. You won't go wrong staying here!
If you want to stay in Key West and be in the center of everything, this is the place to stay! Just walk out your back door and watch the gorgeous sunsets at Mallory Square, where every night is a big party! Great restaurants, bars, shops, museums...whatever you'd like to do is a short stroll in just about any direction. The accommodations are very comfortable, excellent on property restaurant, nice pool and spa...pretty much all you would want to make for a great time in Key West!
"Dinner on the water"
Had dinner at this hotel outside on the water at sunset! Absolutely beautiful and great for people watching. The service was great and the food was excellent! We had drinks at the bar and then dinner for 10. Everyone enjoyed their meal and great wine choices! Enjoy!
"Price, great location, restaurant and bars are its Achillies Heel"
The location of this hotel is amazing, I booked a king room with full water views. The Balcony looking right out to the sunsets. Mornings were interesting to wake up and look out on the balcony so see which and how many cruise ships were out there for the day (they all left prior to sunset). The location is great, within two blocks of Duval Street, the main bar, restaurant street of Key West. I found the concierge desk always helpful and made great recommendations in relation to the hiring a buggy cart to drive right around the Island one day and a sailing boat for a ride. The rooms are oversized (although with very odd bathrooms - the toilet/shower were in an room seperate to the wash basin which was open to the room, which mean you had to remember to take a towel into the shower room - and the shower is rather small in space given the overall size of the room), well appointed and very comfortable and appeared well maintained. I use a CPAC machine and there was a powerpoint next to the bed available. The gym is on the small size, but I was always able to to my workout routines on the limited equipment. Be aware that staff seem to come in and through the gym all the time to use the gym bathroom. The main downside was the restaurant and downstairs bar. I had booked the room and breakfast package (for 2). Unfortunately when we arrived we were provided with vouchers to a maximum value of USD 40 for the two of us. You could not have say have an omelette, juice and coffee each and be under the value. No where in the Starwood/Westin booking site, nor terms and conditions does it say there is any limit to breakfast costs. I usually book these types of combinations as they can be more cost effective, however I would not recommend this option for this hotel. Had the hotel been in Australia I would have referred the hotel to the Australian Consumer and Competition Authority for false and misrepresentation in relation their adversing and terms and conditions. After complaining over two days, a duty manager reluctantly agreed to provide a credit to the account to cover our amounts over the voucher value. The other problem with the vouchers is you need to be together, unlike other hotels where they mark off people numbers for a room so if one sleeps in the early riser can have breakfast and the sleeper can have their later, this doesn't seem to work with these vouchers. Eating breakfast there is nice, but from a cost perspective, locations around the hotel would be good to explore for breakfast. The breakfasts were nice, as were the dinners we had there. However we found the service in the restaurant bar unfriendly and rather slow. The upstairs bar for sunset I found the staff interested and informative. The other unusual aspect around the restaurant is their lack of set up regarding gluten free. In my booking I noted this need, which was played back to me at check in, with the comment, mention this to the restaurant when you go there. It seems the front office and restaurant don't talk. On our first night in the restaurant, the waiter seemed knowledgeable and worked with the kitchen on what I could eat. For breakfast the next morning when I asked for some gluten free bread for toast I was told they don't have any. I asked if the waiter could ask the chef to get some in as we were staying for 4 nights 5 day, and was told probably not as it has never been asked for before. As it turned out the waiter must have asked and gluten free bread was available for breakfast the next day. When I asked for some during dinner on the last night it was as if I was asking for the strangest food in existence. On the positive side, where a breakfast dish was relatively gluten free but an element was not, they did at no cost replace that item with fresh fruit. Other restaurants and bars in Key West seem to understand gluten free, and many had special menus or identified items on their menus that were gluten free or adaptable. One of the Key West Lime Pie outlet even has a gluten free version (and a chocolate covered gluten free version for the dessert overdose!) I have never stayed in any Starwood hotel before that seem to have such a lack of understanding and preparation for people requiring gluten free food, and it was particularly disappointing given I called the hotel about it, I put it in my booking, and other hotels in the group seem to have it available as a matter of course (such as my stay at the Westin Pittsburg the week prior). The front office seemed to be slow in dealing with not many guests when I was at reception, but there was construction on-going throughout my stay. Given the very high prices of the Westin Key West (I think the highest highly rate I have ever paid, including great hotels in New York), the restaurant and bar are its Achilles Heel. However the location and views are stunning. The duty manager adjusting my account for the breakfasts mentioned the hotel is changing brand (which I took to mean hotel operator), I wonder how much of the poor performance in the bar and restaurant as well as the front desk was a reflection of change of operator and limited care about the highly regarded Westin Brand.
