"Westin Maui for our anniversary"
We chose the Westin Maui Resort and Spa for the second part of our anniversary (we stayed in Kihei, Maui for the first part). We were a bit disappointed when we checked in as nothing special was done for the occasion, they did offer a bottle of wine, but we do not drink alcohol. The hotel entrance is nice, but it is huge, and really crowdy and noisy. First hour spent was a waste of our anniversary holiday and we started to find out how we could cancel our stay (we were to stay 5 nights) and go back to the other side (Kihei). The beach in front of the resort is not the best, but after taking time to 1. breath and stay positive 2. walked along the beach... we found that if you go further towards the cliff, it is way calmer and enjoyable. Don't get me wrong, the setting, the pool, the lobby of Westin Maui Resort and Spa is beautiful, but it was not what we were expecting and what we were looking for our 14 years anniversary. Nevertheless, the staff and service is top notch. Beware, parking slot is quite small, don't come with a huge car unless you plan to use valet parking every day. We are not sure we will come back here but Westin Maui Villas is much nicer, and Kaanapali beach on the other side is still beautiful. We ended up buying a condo nearby thanks to that stay in Westin Maui Resort and Spa so our holiday ended well i guess!
"Great basic hotel in paradise!"
This is my second time at the Maui Westin and I'm sure I'll be back. It's a basic hotel room with in the confines of a nice resort. But when you're in the paradise that is Maui, don't wast your money on a fancy hotel room. Get out and spend your money on activities! The only thing worth a bit more is an ocean view room, but only if you're in the renovated part of the resort. The hotel underwent renovations a few years back but only the main tower was renovated. So upgrade to ocean view only if you're able to get a room that has be updated. Otherwise, save your money for surfing lessons, which can be taken right out in front of the hotel. Or get yourself a cabana right on the beach! The rooms have been very nicely updated and the staff is very helpful. The only complaint I have is the food at the hotel is a bit over priced, kinda limited and not the best tasting. That being said, there's plenty of food options with in walking distance and I was very happy to find out that all the rooms have a mini-fridge and coffee maker in them. So make a quick shopping trip before you arrive and avoid the over priced snacks at the hotel. Also, when you remember, make some reservations at some of the local eateries. Whalers' village is right next door and has lots of good food and shopping choices. Also, much less expensive breakfast can be had there if you're looking for something more casual then the hotel's pricey breakfast buffet. Overall this is a great place to sleep and relax with a very helpful staff. So bring some of your own snacks, go out and explore the varied tastes of the island and have a wonderful time in paradise. See you soon Westin & Maui!
Beautiful grounds, swans in the pond, waterfalls (artificial but still nice), lots of pools, including an adult only, decent size room, not to small, not large. Comfy beds and decent linens. It's not the four seasons, but it doesn't suck either. Nice beach, very touristy. I came for a conference. Having lived on Maui in the past, I prefer Wailea, but I'd stay here again for another conference. Very good breakfast.
"Great family getaway!"
We stayed here when our son was really sick, and The staff were extremely kind even making him chicken noodle soup despite it not being on the menu. this resort is also awesome for kids! with whaler's village just a short walk away! they gave us a lovely room with a view of the garden and in addition let us check in early! this was an amazing experience and I highly recommend.
"Return to Paradise"
I finally got back to Maui after a a 8 year hiatus and did I get a goody. First, I bought the Costco package, (car, hotel, resort credit, free breakfast) and let me tell you it cannot be beat. I tried to put the same package together on other sites and it was at least $1500 more.Second, the staff seemed to recognize that I had gone thru Costco and did all they could to make my stay a good one. I even got upgraded to the concierge floor at no charge.I am a platinum member at SPG also. Anyway, the hotel was great. Location was good. Food was above average though a little pricey. but who goes to Maui to eat at a hotel for 7 days. Enjoyed the adult pool during my stay. Plenty of chairs and attention poolside. My preference when on Mai is a condo but since it was only my spouse and I this trip I could not have done better. A little tip when using the spa, take a left out of the parking lot and go to the Sheraton a half mile away. Prices drop a lot.
