"Nice beach "
Hotel is close to airport, almost within walking distance. Beach is great with nice sand and lots of beach chairs. Pool is large and ok. Rooms were large and beds comfortable. Restaurant food was okay but prices were reasonable for a resort.
"DON'T BE FOOLED"
Don’t be fooled – when things seem too good to be true they generally are. Just got back from 5 days at the Westin, DR – while I could go on for some time about the flaws I already exerted enough energy with this property to feel it necessary to waste more. Pros: Guys are Kite Bar are awesome Weather Beach Room are standard Westin (Good bed, terrible shower design) HOUSEKEEPING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Cons: Pool Decking: While the pool is nice (one could argue it needs to be heated) the decking around it is a NIGHTMARE. I spent half the week yelling at my kids not to run – and saw numerous people fall on their face. In the states this would never be allowed – Westin shame on you! Food is inedible and expensive. I have no problem paying high prices for food given decent quality but expect to eat chicken fingers / pizza here – the rest will make you sick. We met numerous people who got sick from the food on the property. Food / water prices – They tell you to not drink the water but only bottled water of which somedays they charge and some days they don’t. They also put it in the rooms for free – so please make up your mind which is it. Food Prices fluctuate by the day – everyday breakfast was a different prices for the same orders and the same with lunch at the pool. My kids had hotdogs multiple days; sometimes it was $6 and other days it was $13 Management: The term that comes to mind is a deer in headlights. This hotel needs American management so bad!!!!!! I emailed the GM multiple times while on property and he did not even have the decency to respond once. I dealt with the room manager (Yarik) who needs to be properly trained as most managers of SPG properties are. Manuel ( I believe) the food and beverage manager did a good job and understood the problem – he did try and explained that it is a poor area and staff is hard to come by – I will counter that with the delicious Food / amazing staff at the Eden Rock Hotel – management of the Westin should take a field trip and see how a real restaurant should be run. He did at least acknowledge an issue – while everyone else just stares. Guys at the front desk – I wish I could remember their names but were about as unhelpful as can be. Concierge – Spoke to me like I worked for her and told me that management policy is to not allow them to make dinner reservations at outside restaurants; are you kidding me!!! I could go on an on – but I don’t want to waste any more time on this place. It is a shame as the place has so much potential but falls SO SO SO short and Management could care less. This hotel is nowhere near ready for American standards and SPG should be ashamed to endorse it as SPG. This is an honest review – I have traveled extensively ( you can see my profile) and am not the fake reports being put up by reviewers with 1 review.
"Quiet relaxation but some improvements needed"
This is my second time at the Westin Punta Cana. The hotel is a standard Westin with comfortable beds, tasteful décor, and clean accommodations. The hotel is only 10 minutes from the airport (and yet the cost is $20 each way). If you arrange the car through the front desk, you won't have to deal with the taxi solicitations when you exit the airport. The staff are all friendly and professional. Francisco and Santana in the Lobby Bar, in particular, can be counted on to provide outstanding service. The beach is small but comfortable and I did not have any problem finding an available chair. This is likely due to the fact that the beach has quite a bit of seaweed and, while workers are present continuously throughout the day to clean the seaweed, it makes a less than ideal swimming spot. There is another beach, Playa Blanca, a short 5 minute walk away, and slightly better for swimming. While I found my experience at the Westin to be positive, the hotel really needs to improve food and entertainment to make it a more desirable destination. The food is mediocre at best. I heard this comment time and time again from other guests and can attest to it first hand. It's simply not good and certainly not worth the cost. Fortunately, there are several restaurants on the resort compound (La Jolla, Bamboo, La Cana) which are quite good and easily accessible via the hotel's shuttle bus. Entertainment is another area that's lacking. While I can appreciate the quiet offered by the hotel, it would be much more appealing if good quality entertainment was offered each evening from 7-11. They occasionally have music but it's generally 9-11pm and just so-so. The hotel has jokingly been described as a church because of it's lack of evening entertainment. Overall, a good quality hotel with some challenges in dining and entertainment.
"Best place for relaxation "
I am very much a go go go type person. When we got here, I finally had a chance to breathe. We actually extended our stay and decided to forgo our next destination because it was so nice here. If you want to get away from everything, this is your place. The hotel has a shuttle all around the Punta Cana Resort, so we got to experience a variety of things. I wish it ran a bit more often, as an hour between each time isn't enough. The Ecological Park was beautiful, and we had an amazing meal at La Yola. We were the only people there and our waiter was great. I didn't catch his name, but whoever was working at 1230 on 2/15/17 was spot on. He provided amazing service. He refilled our drinks when they were half full and was so nice. 5 star service. We wanted to go to Playa Blanca for dinner, but happened to try to go on a night that was reserved for a party. (We went there a few nights ago for drinks and others said the food was great) We were very disappointed and decided to go to the lobby bar for a few drinks while we decided what to do. While there, we met Francisco Gomez. His name demands a whole sentence. He was AMAZING. He was THE BEST. Absolutely love him. I'm so sad we didn't meet him sooner. You could not meet a nicer person. He made us the best drinks and I wish I could bring him home with me. We were disappointed about Playa Blanca but he turned everything around. He was so attentive and personal with his service. I felt like I met a new friend. Note to Westin: hire more people like Francisco Gomez. The guy at the pool earlier completely forgot our order. We kept watching and waiting and nothing ever came. Francisco should probably train the entire staff, however, I don't know how you train somebody to be as personable as him. I'm sure the Westin has a lot of money, so maybe they can find a way to clone 50 of him and the resort would be amazing. All in all, it was a great stay and I would recommend anyone to come if they want peace and quiet to get away from everything. It definitely gave me a chance to regroup that I didn't even know I was capable of. Like I said, I'm a go-go-go, and this was heaven. I will definitely be back, and I don't say that about a lot of places.
"Great resort for a family vacation"
Very nice place for family. Overall a great location with friendly staff and lots of fun activities for kids. It was not overly crowded even during the holidays. They could provide additional free transportation options to various other locations to reduce wait times specially for families with little kids. The staff was awesome. The tennis court facility was awesome. The resort could provide with the equipment and waive the hourly rental as other resorts have it onsite.
