"Clean and not a party scene"
I stayed at the Westin resort for 5 days before Thanksgiving in Nov 2016. Like other reviews state, all of the rooms have a balcony with an ocean view. The rooms were very clean and the beds were comfortable. I went to the gym one day and they have treadmills, a couple weight machines, elliptical machine, and a rack of free weights. The resort has a hot tub and a huge pool that is very well kept and has a ramp that a wheel chair could easily fit on. The staff is top notch and very friendly. We had breakfast each morning that my friend used her spg points on. Breakfast included a wide variety of fruit, meat, bread, croissants, eggs, cheese, local foods, juice, and coffee. The coffee here had strong flavors of chocolate which is fine by me! The adult beverages are great too! I recommend the capirina. (sp') There is a little store by the lobby that sells snacks and toiletries, We had a cuban and dominican cigar in the cigar lounge right by the pool. There is a free shuttle called the grey line that takes you to what is called the village. We went and had dinner there one night but it was nothing better than what you could get at the westin. The beach here is breathtaking!!!!! No seaweed problem when we went. I enjoyed my stay and would love to stay here again.
This is our second time here this year. Quick flight from JFK & the hotel is only 7 minutes from the airport. Great beach, nice restaurants in the area & everyone is so nice. They have a shuttle to take you to & from dinner & there's a great restaurant that you can walk to on the beach. Room#300 is our favorite. Oceanfront & private.
"Fantastic location on the beach"
Great location, on the beach. Excellent staff, very helpful. On the White Beach, could not have been better unless it was free. Hotel offers many excursions, that are not posted on their website. Restaurants are great, rooms fantastic.
I love the Westins and i love being an SPG customer with a stellar reputation of hotels. The Sheraton four points is a wonderful accommodating location which is close to the this Westin. I have recommended both hotels to many many travelers which im always happy to share with.. i did encounter a very awkward situation at this Westin resort & club which i think management completely disrespected my views. Which completely takes me back i thought that we could resolve by communication but i never received a solution. I love my stays there and when i stay there i enjoy all the amenities including restaurants beach and the wonderful staff I will share my incident and the non resolved answer i got back from hotel manager and Groupo..ive lost credibility at this location especially when i go out of my way to resolve.
"Removed and Remote"
I always wanted to go to the Dominican Republic and am not sure that the Westin gives you that experience. It is beautiful and the beach and pool area is one of the best. There are a lot of bugs around the resort. I understand I am in the Caribbean but this is a Westin. I do not need to be surrounded by flies, and see ants on the food in the morning buffet. The main issue that I have is that you do stay within the compound and you do not feel like you are in a different country. There is no culture or vibe here. The staff is an issue and being a Platinum member with over 100 nights it was obvious when I checked in that it meant nothing. I asked for a room near the elevator and was told no problem as the hotel was under capacity, however when I asked if a room upgrade was possible it was all of a sudden over capacity. I asked why the flip and received gibberish. Be care when eating at the restaurants as they charge higher prices than the menus state. I caught them twice overcharging. I was given a15% off at all restaurants letter as a welcome gift and when I tried to use it I was treated as a criminal. It is obvious with the staff that they want to figure out ways for you to tip them even wakening you up at the pool to ask you if you want drink. That is unacceptable. The nicest people at the resort were in the towel hut at the pool. At the airport before you go to passport control you are greeted by a government person requesting ten dollars a person to get into the country. That set the tone for the whole trip and is very unwelcoming.
