"helpful staff , nice breakfast, but nothing outstanding"
I stayed in this hotel because it was a few minutes by walking from the office. I have already stayed in the hotels in UK, Chile, USA, etc. Some have nice amenities, coffee maker available in the room, Iron, bath tube, etc. In Windsor, supposed to be the same level, none of them. There were mosquitoes in the room and the internet worked whenever it wants. The gym started late (8 am, when i supposed to be at the office) and a little disappointment of the pool and the bar in the pool. The bed was not so comfortable and the shower wasn't hot. But positive points for the staff and the breakfast.
"Full-feature hotel in the middle of Rio's Centro/Downtown"
This was my first trip to Brazil and I'm glad that I had a good experience at the Windsor to kick things off on a good note. Although I only stayed for one night, I enjoyed the rooftop pool, the excellent (!) breakfast buffet, the really great water pressure in the shower (hey, that's important to me), the proximity to the lovely new light rail system and, two blocks away, the subway/Metro. Many staff members speak English, so that helped me quickly feel comfortable as I am still in the ultra-beginning stages of learning Portuguese. Be prepared for full-on urban intensity the moment you step outside: street vendors, deafening traffic, commuters hurrying here and there. But I love cities, so for me it was invigorating. I did get the sense, though, that wandering around at night is NOT AT ALL recommended. If you get homesick for US food, there is a KFC and a McDonald's within a block. Otherwise, there are MANY local restaurants and vendors nearby so you can enjoy living like a Brazilian for a bit.
"Good Breakfast, nice roof area, but only average room"
We stayed here one day prior to boarding a Cruise Ship. We selected this hotel for its proximity to the port--you can catch a tam by the hotel and take it a few stops around the corner to where you board the ship. We found the free breakfast buffet to be one of the best we have experienced. Lots of variety, hot food kept hot, and clean dishes. On the other hand, we ate the buffet lunch at the hotel and found it overpriced and "underwhelming" in comparison to the breakfast. When entering the Hotel, the lobby is clean and neat, and the staff attentive and readily available. We liked the exercise room and the pool area on the roof, from which you have a decent view of the cathedral, port, and Christ the Redeemer statue on the hill some distance away. On the other hand, the room was noisy with the window open, and somewhat stuffy when closed. The bed was comfortable. However, the lighted magnifying mirror in the bathroom had a broken cord with an exposed "live" bare wire which could have given someone a deadly shock; they did not fix this before we left. There was also an active woodworm in the furniture!
"Great business hotel"
I've stayed at this hotel three times in Rio. It has very good rooms, easy access to metro, good food with a lot of variety, and is relatively cheap. The staff is very helpful. The rooftop pool has wonderful views of Guanabara Bay. The only downside is the rooms are a little older, and while the location is perfect for business, it is not in a good location for tourists.
During a business trip I stayed at this hotel for the first time. Booked for two days. Ideal location when business takes you to the center of Rio de Janeiro. All is in walking distance and the new and modern VLT (street car) has a stop right across the street. Hotel located at a very busy corner of Rio's center. Reception and restaurant staff is friendly and service was good. No complaints. WiFi worked fine, gym is midsize and work out equipments were working well. Pool on the rooftop is good for a dip but too small for swimming laps. Breakfast had the usual choices of fruit, juices, cold meats and pastry. My room was small and the interior had an oldish feel. Nothing special. Fairly typical of most hotels in Rio. Air conditioning was noisy and I couldn't really work out the functionality (may have been broken). In summary: Not a bad deal, but also nothing to become excited about. Not sure if I'd come back.
