"Great time "
What a great hotel close to the beach really great staff so helpful Carlos on the front desk was fantastic the hotel was clean and tidy and and a good breakfast. We stayed on my birthday and st breakfast the hotel have me a card and chocolates how nice is that they took the time to check it was my birthday. If we were to return to Rio we not hesitate to stay at the Windsor Plaza 😎
"Decent mid-range hotel"
Two Windsors reside on Avenida Princesa Isabel: an expensive hotel just opposite Copacabana and this more moderately priced one a few blocks away and on the opposite side of the Avenida. Even half the time, long-time Cariocas manage to wind up at the wrong Windsor. While the fancier Windsor is surrounded by expensive condos, this second location is a short block from streets chock full of local pharmacies, small grocery stores (Pao de Acucar), and the ever dependable Itau bank for cash withdrawals. Taxis are nearby, plentiful, cheap, and drivers do not expect a tip. Breakfasts in Rio hotels usually come with generous helpings of fresh mango, papaya, melons, in addition to eggs, sausage, yoghurts, breads and cold cuts. I adore my petit déjeuner in Paris and full English across the channel, but Rio hotel breakfasts are wonderful treats. The larger room with a small table had plenty of space for two people to stay comfortably for a week. And a short-lived problem with the air conditioning was fixed one night even at 9 pm. Although the hotel does not advertise its decor, the walls are adorned with (unlabeled) but authentic original indigenous woodwork.
"Good place to stay that could be improved"
Stayed for 2 nights in this hotel. Spacious and clean rooms without good view. Good breakfast, but slightly overcrowded. The pool is quite good, but small. The food in the restaurant is okay. The hotel is quite old. The surroundings include some dingy striptease bars and a few exchange offices. The copacabana beach is 5-7 minutes away. Overall, good place to stay in Copacabana but I would prefer hotel in Ipanema, but it will be way more expensive!
Stayed two nights on a G Adventures tour. The hotel is three blocks from Copacabana Beach, but the immediate neighborhood has little to offer except convenience shops and banks. It is not a shopping district or place you would want to hang out. While we didn’t experience any problems walking back to the hotel at night, we were careful to stay on Av. Atlantic along the beach and avoid side streets. The room was clean, everything worked, and the beds were comfortable. Our favorite spot in the hotel was the rooftop bar and pool. It offered a good view, pleasant breezes, and a place you could relax – even have an afternoon or evening coffee. We were at the Windsor Plaza during the summer holidays. While there were very few children of school age, the hotel was full of large Brazilian tour groups. Breakfast was a nightmare if you didn’t get down early or come very late. Literally a hundred or two hungry tourists trying to make their bus. We had been in Brazil over a week and thought Brazilians were polite, but a crowded breakfast buffet tends to bring out the worst in all of us. The second morning was worse than the first, and after being told there were no available clean tables, then no coffee, I had a word with the head waiter, who was more frustrated than I was. To his great credit, he got a table cleared, special ordered, coffee, and put another table together when the rest of our party arrived. This was greatly appreciated, but getting breakfast each morning was a contest. If we were to do this again, we would stay in a smaller hotel in Ipanema or Leblon – while the beach may not be quite as nice, the neighborhoods have more amenities. The Windsor Plaza offers a car and driver to the airports (R$40 to the domestic airport); probably a few reals more than a taxi on the street, but it was a comfortable ride, and if your short of local currency you can pay at the hotel desk with a card.
Average that is middle in cleaning also breakfast and especially regarding furniture; poor in view; very good & completely strategic location; average services; I prefer select another hotel in my next trip if I have it.
