"Pleasant 3 star hotel with dining issues."
Location: Out of town business area,15 minute walk to museums, 10 minutes to some nice bars and restaurants.Reception: efficient, pleasant and professional. Room:'Double Executive' overdescribes what was a fairly standard 3 star room. Not a very pleasant view over hotel buildings. Needs new carpet and tighter attention to detail in the housekeeping/cleaning area. Dining: Light bar meals or 'The Harbour Kitchen' restaurant. We dined at the restaurant twice. Once on Sunday evening when the service was efficient and friendly and once again (our wedding anniversary) later in the week when the service was way below acceptable. Waitress was cool and unfriendly and after delivering a starter, dissappeared off to some corporate bash leaving us without taking our full order. Food eventually arrived, all generally OK but not as well cooked or presented as on Sunday. The cost of the meals are high; as an example we paid around 120 euros for what was basically shared starter, chicken and chips, sweets and a couple of glasses of wine.,So, overall, unless you are on a business account and don't care about value for money, best option for food & drink is 10 minutes away in the de pijp area; some very nice restaurants there where you can dine in friendly surroundings and eat well for a realistic price.
"Stay here all the time and it never disappoints."
I stay at this hotel multiple times per month due to a contract with my company and this hotel never ceases to disappoint me. My past stay on the 1st of December 2016- 2nd of December 2016 with nothing more than exemplary. I had an issue with my iron in the room which caused my shirt to get damaged. I brought this issue up to the Reception staff instantaneously and they quickly took my shirt to get laundered, the staff told me to check back in a little bit on the status of the shirt. I had returned about 2 hours later after dinner and unfortunately the stain/ burn was not able to come out of the shirt. The manager on duty, Jorik and his colleague Alex were more than diligent to get this situation rectified with me as soon as possible. Jorik had decided in an instant that it would be best to just compensate me for the shirt. Granted it was not an expensive shirt, the gesture was most appreciative and showed the high level of hospitality this Wyndham property has. I stay in hotels around the world and this will continue to be one of my most favorite! Thanks again to Jorik and Alex for your excellent service you provided to me that evening!
Hotel is on a canal so there are great views and a couple of restaurants are on the water, so al fresco dining is a delight. Also, very close to buses and tram. Hotel is very nice. Rooms were very nice and spacious. Great bathrooms.
"Location far from the Old Town, but in a charming neighbourhood nevertheless."
The hotel is located at a confluence of 5 canals. I selected this hotel in the mistaken belief that canal taxis are a part of Amsterdam's transport system. So here we were, inconveniently far from the Old Town. We stayed 5D/5N. And had to make the best of a poor decision. To get to the Old Town, from the hotel, we had to walk to a tram station, then take a ride to Dam Square. This we did everyday. The hotel is obviously a business hotel, located in Zuid (south) Amsterdam, several minutes walk from the RAI International Exhibition and Congress Centre, as well as the World Trade Centre. As such the hotel is in a rather affluent and safe neighbourhood. We walked quite a lot late from restaurants after dinner. Our room was comfortable and well equipped with everything we needed, including bathrobes, bedroom slippers and bottled water. Our room faced the '5' canals, so we had a good view. Generally, service was ok. The airport-hotel shuttle is only available on a limited schedule, so even though we wanted to leave the hotel at 11am, we had to take a cab. The alternative was to take the bus shuttle at 9am or earlier. The concierge was helpful and through him we got to explore the Pijp/Oud Zuid neighbourhood. We walked to the Rijksmuseum, the Heineken Brewery, the Albert Cuypmarket, plus along the Boerenwetering on both sides, also the area around Beethovenstraat where streets are named after composers like Verdi, Schubert, Mozart, Handel, Bach, and artists and sculptors like Botticelli, Michaelangelo, Rubens, Minerva, Gerrit van der Veen. So the hotel Wyndham is really in a charming neighbourhood.
