"Unfriendly Hotel not well maintained"
Stayed for two nights on a tour of China. Was the worst hotel on the trip with maintenance issues and staff who were unfriendly in the restaurant and front desk. Found mold in shower and bathroom was generally not clean. Staff at breakfast were surly and unwilling to replace empty food containers.
"Old but quaint and elegant; not everyone had the same experience as us."
We spent 2 nights here and found the room beautiful and the view amazing. However, others in our group did NOT have this same experience. One couple had black mold in their shower and requested a new room. Due to the late night check-in, they were not accommodated until the 2nd night. The room was better, but still not as nice as ours. The upper floors were clean and had great views, but the lower ones were not maintained and sadly in need of overhaul. Request upper floor for sure. Wyndham night want to make sure this place is updated and cleaned; the carpets all smelled like cigarette smoke and there was mold in a lot of the showers, even ours had a little bit.
"Decent place to stay"
We stayed here with a Nexus Tour, and were on the 17th floor. The Wyndham seems to be trying to update itself, and looked impressive when first in the room, but just a few little things show its flaws. We had 2 drawers that wouldn't stay closed once I'd looked inside (don't we all have a look around'') and I jammed loo paper in to keep them shut, and we had to get someone to show us where to turn off the light in the wardrobe, which still shone through into the room. But there were plenty of good things. The bed was huge, soft but not saggy, and I loved the pillows- you could sculpt them to whatever thickness you wanted. The bathroom was impressive, with toilet and shower in separate cubicles. We managed to book an extra night when we realised we had nowhere to stay at the end of the tour- we used CTrip, and it was recognized, and we got to keep the same room without hassle. The concierge booked a taxi for us 2 mornings, which arrived when we wanted. We wouldn't mind staying here again, and I thought it was a decent hotel for a tour group booking.
"$999 Nexus China tour"
Another lovely hotel for the money, yes its a bit old and worn but for the money great value. The rooms were spacious with view towards the city. Nice comfy beds big bathrooms, the elevator section of each floor was a bit damp smelling but overall not unbearable. The bar staff made good cocktails with instruction however didn't have all the ingredients for many of the simpler ones we ended up having pina coladas. They ran out of glasses and asked if they could wash up our glasses for the next round (their was only 4 of us) Language was a barrier with the staff from the restaurant coffee shop and concierge. It was close to a large shopping mall. You do have to go through a bit of a poorer part of town which all added to our China experience. It cost about 40 yuan to go to the Bund and telecommunications tower by cab which is very easy to get from the hotel and return.
"super size rooms! but room smell is unpleasant."
Was touring with Nexus. the room size and the bed size is SUPER!! however, some rooms may still be smoking rooms. Unfortunately we got a smoking room and the smell is not very pleasant but the comfort of the bed and size of room makes up for it. The cleanliness of the bathroom needs some work as there are soap scum on the walls. they are also a bit slimy. location is not ideal either but being on a tour does not matter since our itinerary is fully booked.
