"Extraordinary Service and Atmosphere"
My eldest daughter was selected to swim at the state level competition nearby so as a reward for her hard work all year I reserved a room here for myself and two kids to relax and enjoy. (Ages 10 and 5) We had dinner in the city and then checked in later in the evening around 8:30pm. It was thier first time ever in Chicago, or a major city at all, and they were in awe from the second we arrived. From the moment we pulled up the service and the entire experience was outstanding and smooth. I was highly impressed how each member of the staff was attentive to the children, talking to them, asking them questions and appeared very interested and cared about what they had to say. We were all treated exceptionally well and not as a transaction at all. Mark, the concierge, gave gifts to the children while he had our bags and valet taken care of effortlessly. The woman who checked us in, ( I wasn't able to get her name but she deserves an enormous amount of thanks and credit) upon hearing it was the childrens first time to Chicago and why we were there, upgraded the room I'd reserved to the Presidential Suite which I cannot graciously thank her enough for. The room and view of the city and river was absolutely amazing. Nick, the bellman, did an excellent job, had good information and chatted up the children as well as the woman who brought us breakfast the next morning. ( I wasn't able to get her name either) Check out was just as smooth as well. Beginning to end, a top level experience and I would gladly recommend this place to anyone. The staffs training, attentiveness, and experience shined here and is greatly appreciated.
"Quiet, but a bit outdated"
I recently stayed at the Wyndham Grand for a business trip. The conference was actually at the Hyatt but that was sold out so ended up at the Wyndham. Overall, a decent stay and actually being able to come back to the quiet of the hotel was a welcome relief from the sensory overload of the Hyatt.. I stayed in a King overlooking the river (and just across from the Trump hotel so my view was the VERY LARGE TRUMP sign - so depending on your politics this could be fine or not.) The room was very quiet (always a good thing) and very nice sized - quite large with a large bathroom with a "rain shower head. My main complaint was the quality of the bathroom tissue - which was quite cheap not at all soft. The public rooms were nice albeit small and the staff was friendly. There is a small restaurant on the lobby level and while I didn't eat there, I did stop in for a drink and it was quiet and well staffed. I think the main drawback was the fact that the television entertainment options were limited. I haven't been to a hotel in a long time that didn't have some sort of on demand movies and while the cable had the basics - some of the channels faded in and out. I wasn't in my hotel room much but it would have been nice to have a few more options. The location is great and close to Michigan avenue. So, not a bad spot - but could use just a bit of updating entertainment wise.
"Girls' Escape! "
After driving in circles because google maps was confused about how to get to Wacker Drive and the Wyndham, we were in no mood for any more hassles. When we finally drove up to the door, the valet greeted us as if we were long lost family and helpfully got us situated. The staff at the front desk was pleasant and helpful and our rooms were perfect. We had a river view out of the wall of windows and a lot of room to spread out! I even had room on the floor for my oversized yoga mat! The bathroom was very roomy, with a one cup keurig and the shower was roomy. If I had one complaint, it was that the toilet was very low. Uncommonly low... Because the hotel was still in winter mode the heat was on and so I called to see if I could have engineering come to turn on my airconditioning. Someone was sent up immediately. Really good people working there. In fact, when I needed to print out my tickets and couldn't access my email, one of the desk staff did it from his own email account. I can't say enough about everyone's friendliness and helpfulness.
"Chicago Fun for St Patrick's Day "
Very nice, clean hotel overlooking the river. Awesome spot for the celebration of St Patrick's Day. Good food in the restaurant/bar and staff very nice. Short walk to pubs and nightlife including Rush Street.
I've continued to stay at this hotel when traveling for work in Chicago. Ms. Birsen has checked me in the last couple of times and she is the kindest, sweetest, and caring person. I want to give her a shout out and let ger know I cant wait for my next trip and to see if shes working the front desk. Thanks Ms. Birsen for making my home away from home so special.
