We were booked in as part of a business meeting, as our usual venue was fully booked. Drinks overpriced, decent buffet breakfast with swift service this is clearly a strength. Rooms are basic and very noisy air-conditioning. Ordered room service which took an hour to arrive - main course was cold and the ice cream melted - I did comment this to reception who straightaway took the charges of the bill - there was no need for this, albeit it was appreciated. Wouldn't return unless I had to.
"A GREAT HOTEL"
The York Marriott is a nice combination of a modern hotel with great elements of it's old and traditional roots. The property is clean and modern in every respect. The service at reception, in the bar and in the restaurant is some of the best I have ever experienced anyehere. My room was bright and very comfortable. I can not think of anything bad to say about this Marriott other than it is not located nearly as close to the historic downtown area as their web site seems to apply. Hiring a taxi is really a must for trips to and from downtown and the train station.
My husband works away a lot and uses Marriott hotels worldwide. He is a gold elite member and used points to book which we thought was a suite. The room wasn't exactly what we thought but clean and comfortable. Had to ask for wifi code. We were staying overnight on a way back from centreparcs. We tried to watch a film which we understood to be free as part of the room deal. The film kept stopping and starting and we gave up watching it. Went down for dinner the drinks are very expensive. Dinner was nice again very expensive for what you got. We went back up to room to try to watch film again wouldn't work so phoned reception they sent someone up who had no idea what was wrong and said they would take cost of the bill. ( We were not meant to pay for it in the first place) persevered with it stopping and starting and finally watched it. Breakfast was lovely. We went to pay bill and they hadn't used points so we had to sort that all out. Not that great.
"not worth the money"
booked this hotel because were told Marriot hotels were good ,booked for 2 nights on arrival we noticed sick outside hotel. .Booked in was given an upgrade to our room for joining Marriot club card.Went to room and was disappointed with room in fact premier inn just as good. Booked this hotel because of spa and swimming pool only to find out on second day after returning from York at 4 pm pool was booked out to local school for swimming lessons for 2 hours. The spa is not exclusive to residents only, it has members from local community as well.Had evening meal which was rather expensive my wife had the steak which was supposed to be medium cooked but was quite bloody and full off fat I had tbone pork meal which was ok but served with chips and gravey no veg probably had to ask for veg separate''Drinks very dear as well,This is a very pricey hotel nothing special too far out of York centre OH and the sick still not cleaned up outside.Ona good note lovely breakfast and staff great.
"Good family hotel"
Great for a short break to York. Nice big room for us and our teenage daughter. Comfortable, well equipped and clean. Lovely breakfast but a disappointing lack of range in the room service and bar menu. Good bus service into town from just outside the hotel as parking in York is almost impossible. Two good pubs across the road for extra eating options.
