L'Albergo della Regina Isabella is located directly on the seashore, in the midst of a peaceful bay surrounded by rocky shores and luscious Mediterranean vegetation. The hotel is located in the township of Lacco Ameno in Ischia, the largest Neapolitan island in the Gulf of Naples. L'Albergo della Regina Isabella was built in the 1950's by Angelo Rizzoli. The island's beauty and thermal baths captivated the illustrious publisher and film director. In 1956 he decided to enlarge historic Regina Isabella's thermal baths and build a resort over the ancient Greek - Roman ruins. After just a few years, Ischia and L'Albergo della Regina Isabella became the centre of attraction for cosmopolitan worldliness. Celebrities such as Richard Burton, Liz Taylor, Maria Callas, Alberto Sordi and William Holden enlivened those popular years making it one of the most exclusive and glamorous destinations. In more recent years, representatives of the entertainment and business industry, as well as politicians and intellectuals gravitate around the hotel attracted by the prestigious cultural events that are organized in Ischia. L'Albergo della Regina Isabella rewards its guests enchanting moments in a strikingly rich architectural setting. The island's history which dates back over 2700 years, its mild climate, the naturalistic environment and Lacco Ameno's hospitality are all reasons to spend some time here in any season of the year. L'albergo della Regina Isabella has four swimming pools, two outdoor and two indoor. The first outdoor pool is on the beach above sea level, contains purified seawater and is surrounded by a solarium with wood floored deck and comfortable lounge chairs. The other is filled with thermal water or heated seawater and is the ideal pool for talasso therapy (sea-water based therapy) in which to simply relax. One indoor pool contains thermal-water for regenerating baths and the second, known as the Risveglio dei Sensi pool (sensorial awakening pool) is filled with thermal-water used for various therapeutic treatments such as music-therapy, chrome-therapy and aromatherapy. There are also two docks, equipped with lounge-chairs and sun umbrellas from which guests have easy access to the sea. THE RESTAURANTS L'Albergo della Regina Isabella offers its guests the possibility to choose between three restaurants in which to dine with magnificent sea views and numerous delicious traditional Mediterranean dishes accompanied by the finest wines. The Regina Isabella Restaurant, for dinner, is elegantly decorated and has large panoramic windows overlooking the sea. It offers traditional, creative dishes specializing in fresh seafood. The Sporting Restaurant, overlooking the sea, offers fresh fish for lunch as well as typical Neapolitan buffet and dietetic dishes. In the attempt to offer its guests a vaster and more sophisticated choice, L'Albergo della Regina Isabella has recently opened a new gourmet restaurant named Indaco, after the color that characterizes the Ischian sea as evening approaches.
