"Jut a few rough edges, , , , ,"
The Ravenala had the misfortune of following on from 5 days at Shamwari Wildlife Reserve, so it was always going to be a tough call. We didn't have the best start either as we were very late arriving and were rushed through to the buffet before it closed, all a bit hectic. Next day we booked restaurants for all of our remaining nights and things certainly picked up. However, this is where the rough edges started to appear with daft little things, such as, when we went to book our restaurant meals for the week we were told that we could only book two days in advance, this was on Wednesday and some restaurants were fully booked up 'til Sunday' But the door did swing both ways and we booked up for the whole 7 days. The food in all the restaurants was very good and no complaints there, though service was on occasion very slow and we only once got offered coffee at the end of the meal.. Staff also varied from person to person, some really let the side down with total lack of attention and shoddy dress sense, whereas others such as Nimo in Madam Ming's was excellent on every level. Room staff did a good job and Mera Zabin and Zofeera (') did some excellent towel sculptures including a Duo of swans creating a heart and even a 4 foot crocodile. Unfortunately the majority of films on TV in our room were in French and couldn't be changed. The Hotel itself is a beautiful place, from forecourt, to reception, to pools and beach with ample sunbeds, such a pleasant change to walking round looking for spares. Staff in general were very good and our Kuoni rep, Steffanie, was excellent, securing us a spare room for our last day as our departure was not until 7.45 in the evening. Any issues we had were resolved as soon as possible, even chasing a Taxi firm and airline for a lost jacket. We did make a list of people who went that extra mile but have somehow managed to lose it which is quite annoying as some people really did deserve a special mention, ones I can remember were Deepac,Dev and Moses. For us the highlight of the week was the Sports Village, all staff Amjad, Sharron and the person who's name I can never remember (French name), were excellent and truly helpful. We were in the sport village at 8 in the morning before breakfast and 5 in the evening before our main meal, a great time. The Hotel could be excellent, it just needs to tidy up its service and fine tune a few things here and there to take it up to the next level.
We have just returned from two weeks here and I have to say the staff were absolutely lovely. The hotel is impressive with a great swimming pool, good tennis courts and sport village. Food in all the restaurants was good quality and service great. Our room was a deluxe suite overlooking the sea and it was huge with a super big and comfortable bed and a great view of the waterski jetty which was quite entertaining first thing in the morning. The one downside to the hotel is the beach which is quite small for the size of the hotel and can get busy. Although we travelled without kids the hotel was well set up for them. It is a very good holiday hotel. Finally the entertainment at night was variable and probably need some updating especially the one that sound like the Shadows!
We had an amazing time here. Not sure what the fuss is about re AI. So easy to understand, but I don't know why they do it and I have mentioned this to the hotel. So what you have to sign for some things, hardly spoils the idyllic holiday, Restaurants were good, yes you have to book, but of course you do, there are only so many covers for each place. The sushi restaurant is amazing. The staff are friendly and helpful. We wanted for nothing.
"Ravenala Great Attitude"
What a lovely hotel. The staff were amazing. Nothing was too much trouble we were looked after so well and the Mauritian people are certainly the most happy in the world. Food in the various themed restaurants are well worth a visit particularly the Bistro. Lunch is a little hectic and the staff were very forgetful but couldn't apologies enough when we brought this to their attention. Rooms are great and the grounds very pretty. Enjoyed our walk across the river and up to the ruins to see giant tortoises. The pool is lovely very clean and plenty of sun beds. The beach is lively with lots going on. We had a fantastic time here and would definitely return to this hotel.
"Lime Restaurant definitely worth a visit!"
We are presently on our honeymoon at the Ravenala but wanted to provide some feedback on our restaurant experience so far. The service and food at the bistro has been great, whilst the menu is limited the quality and portion sizes are good. Kot Nou the Mauritian restaurant serves excellent food however the service is poor and could be easily improved. The highlight of our stay so far is without doubt the food served at Lime, the menu here is charged at a supplement for all inclusive guests but is undoubtedly worth every penny! Having tried lunch which was excellent we have just experienced the most phenominal meal this evening. Both the chef Kesha and head waiter Dabee provided an excellent menu, attentive service and clearly take pride in their work. The food is fresh, location perfect and can only be described as an experience rather than an evening meal. We would definitely recommend to anyone. The hotel should advertise Lime more as eating here in an evening does only seem to be word of mouth.
