"Impressive and luxurious (also known as the Angkor Palace Resort & Spa)"
This was our first trip to Cambodia. The hotel isn't far from the airport (10-15 minutes) but a little far from the sites. Even though we had previously arranged for the free airport pick up, they were not there to meet us when we arrived. We eventually contacted the hotel and they sent another van and we were on our way. (Note: our drop off to the airport after checking out went perfectly.) Upon arriving at the hotel you are blown away. The property is absolutely beautiful. Numerous water features, lots of orchids and flower arrangements, gorgeous wood carvings. You are greeting with welcome scarves, a refreshing cold towel and a welcome juice. The staff was all extremely friendly and ready to help, although even though they spoke some English, there was sometimes a little lack of understanding. We rented one of their villas, Villa A, which was a three-bedroom with private pool. We felt like royalty! The villa was GORGEOUS! The pictures on the website are accurate. Each bedroom also had an adjacent private sitting room with TV and mini bar and full bathroom. They have mosquito netting around the beds which they prepare at turn-down each evening, and while we didn't suffer a lot of mosquitos, the netting helps you sleep soundly without that one bug in your ear. Each bedroom also had its own ac control. The beds are really firm, which I liked but my kids had to get used to. Over the five days we were there we received two fruit baskets which included bananas, apples, dragon fruit, rambutan (I miss those!) and oranges. Lovely. We had a living room, a common tv lounging area, and a huge dining table with 12 chairs. We ordered lunch at the villa a couple of times, eating outside by the pool. Our pool was a little bigger than a plunge pool, and was perfect for our kids, 9 & 11. We did bring a couple of pool floats, which added to the fun. The property also has a large pool for all guests which was a 2 minute walk from our villa, and we also enjoyed that. In the morning we woke up to exotic bird calls and tropical sounds. One strange thing: our villa included a kitchenette which had an electric kettle and a microwave. Upon trying to use these, we found that the plugs were wrong--there's no way that they could possibly be used. We switched out the kettle for one we could use, but didn't bother for the microwave. Strange. The hotel has a fleet of tuk-tuks to take you around town and to the sites/ruins. We hired a private tuk-tuk recommended from a friend, so I can't speak to the hotel's tuk-tuks, but whenever we were leaving they always seemed available. There is one restaurant on site, which was good; not the biggest variety, but fine for a couple of meals. The breakfast was terrific: lots of options and plenty of seating. There is also a Lounge which offers limited free snacks and drinks such as fruit, finger sandwiches, wings & samosas, cookies, and juices, soda and alcohol, which they ask you to consume there in the lounge. There is a Spa on site, which has an exercise room and spa treatments, but we did not use this amenity. I will say that the free wifi was sporadic. Half the time I was unable to connect, and when connected it was next to impossible to download anything of size. All in all it was fine, but not what I would expect at such a luxurious property. There is also a business center, which I didn't use but perhaps the wifi is better in there' Overall we felt spoiled and we had an incredible stay! Tip: -Money: Cambodia uses USD but no coins--only paper dollars. Bring a lot of $1 because you end up tipping. A LOT. Which is fine--but we should have brought more singles. When you buy things you'll get US dollars as change, as well as Cambodian paper currency for the small change. -Electricity: The hotel has outlets fitted for US and Euro (two round prong) style appliances; we had no problem charging our devices with our US plugs. -Site tickets: You must get the passes to access the sites from a government office, which was about 40 minutes by tuk-tuk from the hotel. We did this once and got the three day pass, so it wasn't a big deal. Kids under 12 years old are FREE if you bring their passport!
"EXCELLENT! (Also known as Angkor Palace Resort & Spa)"
I could not have been more impressed with our first stop in South East Asia!! The resort is out of the way of the busy Siem Reap streets, in a quiet area, and offers a complimentary shuttle to downtown (reservation required!). The staff were absolutely wonderful, and took pride in their work and in the resort. They are always busy cleaning, dusting, and generally being available to say hello or answer any questions the guests may have. What other reviewers have said about the breakfast buffet is true: some of the widest selection of both Western and Asian items possible! Look for deals at Kainnora Spa (request Chhaona if possible - she was AMAZING!!!), and be sure to spend an afternoon poolside to take advantage of the swim-up bar and poolside food service. There are lots of day beds, and although we didn't use the infinity pool, it looked great. Play area/jungle gym for the kiddos, and WIFI THROUGHOUT THE RESORT, including the rooms!!!!! We booked through hotels.ca and received a one-time complimentary afternoon tea, access into the Club Lounge, and 2pm checkout. Simply put, I cannot recommend this hotel enough for your time in Siem Reap. Hope you enjoy it as much as we did!!
"Exotic Setting with Western Luxury"
Classically appointed older hotel with the timeless luxury and service of a grand hotel property. The lobby, public spaces, and guest rooms are simply but elegantly appointed with deep rich woods of classic colonial hotels. The service is exceptional from complementerary airport shuttle, front desk, housekeeping, to concierge services. Everyone is truly dedicated to making guests feel welcome and as they center of attention. While a few stumble it is not because of want. The Palace is obviously a learning organization growing the next generation of hoteliers. If it is not right. They will make it right. I look forward to visiting again to this part of Asia. Enjoy your stay at this great estate.
Cannot fault the lovely people. Friendly and welcoming reception. Pool view room with king size bed and breakfasted. Room was well prepared smelled lovely, and very comfortable. Beutifully located, maintains a generous essence of culture. Bags handled with care. Everything works in the room beautifully appointed. Lots of tv channels from us, china, local, maybe others. Lovely pool is easy to dangle feet for a cool. Breakfast was a lovely standard buffet eith eggs cooked to order, some variation in freshness of the grilled tomato. The inhouse restaurant was great ... coffee a bit to much air in the froth. We liked that it was away from main roads but not far from city centre and the temples. The hotel has its own fleet of tuk-tuks and the driver stays with you for the day. After using one for a couple of days we were feeling shelled in and tried to use the others around town. Considering the amount of negotiation for such small cost... i would say the hotel tuk-tuk is good value and maybe worth sticking with. We stayed four days. Room was made each day, towels and linen were clean. No tripping hazzards. Nice water pressure. Just a really nice place to stay. We definitley felt that we would love to come back.
