"Not What I Was Expecting"
I was surprised by this Hotel - it is more of a Motel in my opinion, as most park in front of their rooms. The staff that we encountered from the valet, to the front desk, to the restaurant staff, to the shuttle employees were extremely pleasant and helpful. That being said, we booked what we thought was the nicest room available, a signature suite. It was tired and in need of a makeover. it is my understanding that most of the standard rooms have recently been redone. We may have enjoyed our stay more if our room had also been included in the remodel. This complex is a series of many building requiring you in some cases to walk quite a far distance and up a level of stairs to get to your room. They offer complimentary shuttle service all over the resort, but it is sometimes inconvenient. Dragging your luggage up and down stairs can be cumbersome. This may be great for some families, but it was not what we were hoping for.
"Great Place for a Relaxing Week - and Working Out Your Calves"
This is a great resort, located right between North Phoenix downtown making it both convenient to everything and a nice getaway when you just want to relax in the mountains with a great view. We were here for Spring Training and loved our stay, especially our "Cliff Side Suite" which is located away from the lobby, up the side of the mountain, near the Different Pointe of View restaurant. Everything was clean, well maintained, and the food was great at every restaurant we went to on property (including Different Pointe). The pool area is especially wonderful, with several different options to choose from so you never have to be in the middle of the action (which we prefer). There are a few things that keep this from being a five-star review. The customer service is a little off. I'm not sure if there's a lack of training or just that guest services is very casual, but we had trouble getting good information from anyone. The person who checked us in complained about his job. Our room went without housekeeping for a day without explanation, and when we got a bottle of wine through room service, people knocked on our door incessantly the next morning looking for the glasses. We finally gave up and just gave them our flutes! Also, parking. There's plenty of places to park, that's not the trouble. But while there's a valet option, there's no point using it. The resort is huge and you'll need your car to get around, because the hills are very steep within the property. You're also able to park right outside your assigned building - our check-in guy suggested we park "at the bottom of the hill" aaaaannnnnddddd it was a schlep up the mountain with our bags! Otherwise, though, I thought everything was fabulous and we would definitely stay at the resort again. The troubles were minimal and the quality of the resort more than made up for any small errors. Definitely, if you get a chance, visit the spa. Their treatments, unlike a lot of other resorts in the area, are more than worth the money. And close out your vacation with a night at Different Pointe of View. Its just wonderful.
"Good place for a scenic sunset cocktail."
Good place for a sunset cocktail on the Terrace at the top of the hill at The Pointe. Poor signage once you're up there to know where to enter the place. Spectacular views of Phoenix and the valley as the night progressed. We decided to stay for dinner, and though reservations were required (which we did not have), the manager, a woman whose name I did not get, was more than accommodating in getting us a table while we entertained ourselves with the view and a few pre-dinner cocktails. All the workers were extremely attentive and professional. We got a table for two, on the glass, with spectacular views everywhere. They really took care of us! The food was good, nothing spectacular, but that seems to be the norm in Phoenix, for some reason. The hotel property is attractive at first glance, but while we walked around the lower portion, it showed signs of needed maintenance in the pool area and was a strange layout, afar. No signage to get anywhere, and it appeared to me that there was a lot of walking up and down hills to get around. If you're elderly or handicapped, it could be an issue. I'd go back for a cocktail with a view, but nothing else.....
"Customer Service is lacking"
The resort area is beautiful with fantastic views. The pool is a great place to hang out and the Cascade Cafe was yummy and the staff very friendly. My complaint is with the front desk. Everyone we encountered there was very unhelpful and in some instances down right rude. The bell staff was talking about who they should help in order to get a better tip. Some training would be helpful. The rooms were just blah....nothing special. It made me laugh how much emphasis the front desk put on the 2 water bottles they gave you like it was gold or something. Not impressed.
"Great Family Accommodations"
We live just over the mountain from the Pointe Hilton Tapatio Cliffs Resort, and have stayed there, when my wife was interviewing for a position in The Valley of the Sun. We have put up visiting family there on two previous occasions, and as HHonors Diamond members, with millions of HHonors points, we have usually used those points for the various stays. We did so again, as our house could not be fully “child-proofed” with short notice. We booked our family members into two, adjoining suites for a week, with the points, and all aspects of this, with Hilton, and the hotel, could not have been easier. We dine on the property, from time to time, and my wife holds meetings/retreats there with some regularity, but we had not stayed there in about 19 years. I checked our family in, and the service was excellent. The hotel did provide adjoining suites, as promised, on the second level, in the main portion of the hotel. The rooms were spacious, with a separate living room, in each, and bedroom. We spent many hours in the rooms, with our family, though did not sleep in either suite. This review is on just what we encountered, during our family members’ stay. The rooms were comfortable, fairly spacious, and while showing a bit of age, nice. The entire hotel/resort is aging a bit, but there are changes in the future. Though the family greatly enjoyed the pool areas, I did not experience those, so cannot comment. The service, at every level was great, and with just a simple request on my part, the stay was extended to a late check-out. The property has two dining options, which I have done separate reviews for: Different Pointe of View Pointe in Tyme Those are totally different restaurants, with different menus, and even some different times of operations. While the property has a very good golf course, on which I live, we did not play, so I cannot review it here. The hotel/resort could not have been more accommodating, though they had several large groups booked, and the service that I encountered on both ends of this stay, were great.
