"Easter Weekend Stay"
Visited the Camby over the recent Easter holiday. The hotel has a relaxed, but quirky vibe. Trevor and the team at the pool bar did a great job taking care of us over the entire weekend. The pool is small, but good enough for a quick dip to cool down. Will certainly consider staying there again when visiting Phoenix/Scottsdale.
I was in Phoenix this week and I stayed for business and enjoy every moment! Room was ideal for work and rest, fitness room was best i saw. restaurant and bar are right on! for business or pleasure this is highly recommended!!!
"Nicely updated hotel with mediocre service"
The Camby is the old Ritz-Carlton, which fell into disrepair. The good news is the hotel has updated the rooms, bathrooms, lobby and restaurants. They left some of the Ritz touches intact, like the marble floors and countertops in the bathrooms. The bad news is they left none of the Ritz's great service. The front desk agent somewhat rudely dismissed my request for a 4 pm checkout, which is guaranteed with Marriott Gold membership except for resorts and convention hotels. She said The Camby was a convention hotel, although there were zero conventions happening. Valet parking was a fiasco when I checked out, as a huge number of people were checking in and out. Getting my car took about 20 minutes and since all hands were on deck retrieving cars, there was no staff presence to let guests know what was going on with their cars or to keep an orderly line. The central location is great if you want to be in the Biltmore area.
The decor in this hotel is something else. Quirky really describes it. I can't decide if my favorite was the picture in the elevator that said "stare here to avoid awkward conversation" or the cow head in the room that was a light glowing "moo" on the wall. A close third would be the double camel made out of bushes in the front of the hotel. We were here for the Final Four. I enjoyed our stay. It was definitely different. Nice pool. Right across from the Biltmore shopping center with a lot of restaurant options. One mile walk to Trader Joe's and Whole Foods. Small fridge in the room. Great location in Phoenix. The restaurant has great breakfast. We had quite a mix of service in the restaurant and bad service from a rude bartender but this rating is for the hotel and not the restaurant.
"Some good, some not"
I was looking forward to my stay this past week. I figured it would be a more contemporary Ritz Carlton. Instead, my impression was that they chose style over comfort. The furniture is stylish, but not particularly comfortable. That includes the bed, which was VERY disappointing and the most important thing I care about. The bed was either so soft that it was uncomfortable for me or it was so old that it was just really worn in. Definitely not the bed I am accustomed to at a Marriott or Renaissance. Having said that, the location is great, the place has good bones and could be improved, and I thought the customer service was good. Why did I rate this hotel average' I would have rated it very good except the bed was so bad that I lowered my rating to average.
