"Nice location next to racecourse"
Located next to the Chester Racecourse, easy to find. On site car parking. Check in was painfully slow, a long Que. with one (Very friendly) receptionist who was also taking phone calls. The room was very comfortable with a large bed, very clean and a great view over the racecourse. Evening meal in the restaurant was excellent as was breakfast, great staff. Another Que. when checking out. Great hotel, friendly staff.
"Hotel let down by some areas."
Good points about the hotel are as follows:- Excellent, Friendly and Helpful Reception Staff. Excellent, fast, efficient and friendly staff also for Breakfast, shown to a table and order taken for the main course, avoiding the elbows at dawn at a servery! The room was nice and had a view over the Racecourse. Areas to be improved are as follows:- when we stayed it had been a very hot day in Chester, this resulted in a very hot room. Therefore,, on our return to the room, although we set the air-conditioning for a lower temperature, this was not achieved until the early hours of the following morning, making it difficult to sleep. The bathroom requires beakers, glasses or a toothbrush holder of some description. My full overview is as follows:- We arranged to stay at the hotel as we had arranged to attend a "Cheese and Wine" event, organised by an outside agency. The evening was well arranged, informative and a pleasure to attend. At the time of making our booking, we also booked a table in the Restaurant for an evening dinner, as our main evening had a start time of 7 pm. Although the Hotel subsequently telephoned to inform me that the Restaurant would be in a temporary location, they failed to inform me that the £20 Two Course deal was to be discontinued. Upon our check in, my credit card was pre-swiped for £180, being the cost of the room and the two evening dinners and confirmation was given of our booking for the evening. When we attended the Restaurant at 6 pm for our dinner, we were informed that the deal was not on offer and we would have to select something else. The waiter did go to reception and also returned with the restaurant manager, informing us that the only deal is the Lobster and Steak with Prosecco. We informed them that, due to the six wines plus port that we were about to enjoy and that the time is now 6.20 pm, we did not have the time to take up this offer. The offer was made to hold the Prosecco for us but we declined this, an offer was also made to have two complimentary glasses of Prosecco with our dinner, but we declined this also. The restaurant manager then belatedly advised that she attempted to contact us regarding the removal of the fixed-price option, but we have no evidence of this on our answerphone. Although my croque monsieur was fine, my wife's pasta dish was bone dry and the worst she has ever been served. To add insult to injury, we were charged £2.50 for a plain tomato sauce in order to make it edible. We have stayed in many hotels in many countries over the years and I am left disappointed in my experience of the Abode Chester. It is also a pity that parking is a further addition to the bill, however we did know about this at the time of booking. The hotel is in a good location and the river, town centre and racecourse are all walkable. I have completed the return online feedback requested by the hotel and have not received any form of communication back from them.
Once again a fantastic stay at this wonderful hotel. They didn't have the room I requested so they kindly upgraded us to a penthouse suite, free of charge. It was awesome so relaxing. Evening meal and breakfast was out standing. The service from all staff was so friendly and outstanding, nothing was a problem. Went for breakfast this morning and the door was locked. The chef in the kitchen had no issues in letting us take a detour through his kitchen. All in all a wonderful mini break. Will be booking another one real soon. Thanks for making our stay that much better.
"Excellent location and a good place to stay"
We arrived in Chester and were rewarded with an excellent location and a very nice hotel albeit pricey Rooms were just so - at least as good as you would expect Bar was really nice BUT expensive Breakfast was very disappointing for £15 - portion control and quality let it down Majority, but not all, staff were very good
Good hotel. A nice hotel rooms are comfortable, a regular on my list. I found the breakfast inconsistent (still good quality). Very well located and easy to find. Good city walks and runs on the door step.
