"ATTENTION! The hotel is not reliable!"
Attention! The hotel AMERICAS BARRA HOTEL is not reliable! I made a reservation at the hotel for the month of September 2017 with the free cancellation option. Later, the hotel did not accept the terms previously announced, wanting to charge immediately without possibility of refund, sent me an email to cancel the reservation, even though I have checked the reservation with the free cancellation option. The Hotel does not comply with the terms announced in its reservations. So be careful before booking this hotel!
"Clean and comfortable"
The location might be a negative point for this hotel, which is a bit far from downtown Rio (around 40-50 min by car). However is 20 min by car from some gorgeous beaches and also offer an awesome view from the balcony. Staff is very friendly and prompted to help. The neighborhood is safe and calm. Sorted breakfast with fresh food. There's also a gym space and a pool at the rooftop, which has a magnificent view at the sunset time.
"This hotel COULD have been wonderful"
A hotel build of decent good materials, but build in a hurry we think! So many things were not working. Cleaning was less than ordinary. Pool area nice. Staff nice. Terribly boring place. Absolutely nothing to do where the hotel is placed. You need taxi for everything.
So basic. So difficult. So unwelcoming. So Brazil. I can't say anything positive about this bland 2* hotel. No bar. No bath. No restaurant. Room service food was just terrible. Front desk has no desire to help. Nobody cares. Nobody speaks English.
"Not quite ready and a bit noisy"
I stayed one night during the Olympic Games in August 2016. I like the location in front of the BRT station, handy for Rio Centro and the Olympic park, also my room had nice views. The service in restaurant was very good. First, they checked me into a standard room (which was really small, no view) but I had reserved an Executive room with a balcony. So I went back to reception to ask where was my room, but they had given it to someone else, so they gave me a suite (Room 1100) which was huge with great views and a big balcony. The suite was not really finished though. There was very little furniture (nothing in the sitting area), it was pretty dirty with construction grime and paint, plus it had a broken window. I'm sure they will fix all those things in time, but I was really surprised about the noise level from the traffic which went all night. They should probably have double glazing. The roof top pool looks very nice.
