Close but no cigar. I was really excited about my holiday after reading all the reviews here and came with an open mind and heart with wife and 2 kids (4 and 12). Third time in the maldives, been to a couple of more "mainstream" places so was expecting an upgrade considering reputation and price. Close but no cigar. Starting with the positives: Room cleaned several times per day, lots of towels and waters, clean floors, shower etc and lots of amenities. Beach in front was stunning, on the lagoon side (sunrise villa) which is a lot more quiet than the other side of the island which is windy and more noisy. Open air shower was super and left us in awe as soon as we tried it. The island is beautiful and we enjoyed the fact you could visit other islands too - the kids loved the quiet lagoon waters for swimming and swinging from the swings. Divecenter seemed well organized and YURI our divemaster from singapore was amazing. They wash all your gear after dives which is great. Good pool and the bikes are a nice touch, with a bit more maintenance. Quick check in and boat ride from airport. On the last day they really surprised us with a villa for our use as we had a 11pm flight which was amazing. Thanks for that. The not so positives: In some places like the pool bar we literally had to beg for service and some employees constantly gave us wrong information on bookings etc...things like bringing one umbrella to the room or turning off the bright light outside the villa which affected our sleep were forgotten repeatedly...we didn't particularly warm up to most of the staff. We thought all the restaurant options on the island would be a plus but we came on the half board option and diners turned out to be exhausting looking for options on the menu which pleased us at no additional cost - food taste overall was a 3 out of 5 for us so we did not feel prepared for extra spending. We honestly would have preferred buffet every time (you can't because they dont have a buffet every night which was different from all the other places I have been to) to make things easier and my 12 year old was not happy with the kids menu which gave her very limited options - she won't have pasta, pizza and fish fingers for awhile. We were prepared for "expensive" and we happily invest on gourmet meals but 24usd for 2 bottles of water and 70 dollar tasteless steaks not an option for us. The buffet dinner is 150usd per person if you are not on inclusive. When you charge 18usd for a pool bar cocktail make sure the service is at the same level. Kids club - ladies were patient and gentle with the kids but the activities and schedules seemed messed up and confusing. Our kids liked the ladies working there but did not engage after a couple of days as there was no buzz or consistency on schedules - on sushi day they literally had to remind them of the activity. Not sure what sets this apart from other family resorts to be honest as I was told this was "the place" for families. Not the best place for snorkeling I have seen, the best is in snorkeling/picnic island as the rest of the resort is mostly just white sand and coral. If diving is your thing you will be better off somewhere else, the dive spots are not spectacular.
"Great hotel with nice staff "
The hotel it's located at 40 minutes walk by boat from Male airport. The arrival to the resort it's very nice.A group of people are singing and wish you Welcome on a very nice atmosphere. The staff is very friendly. The rooms (villas) are lovely, very big, clean and the bed it's very comfortable.the breakfast is delicious with a great variety of food and the dinner (buffet or a la carte) also good. The hotel provides all kind of activities. This hotel is very good for family with children, compared to Anantara Veli ( located at 2 minutes by boat) which is perfect for couples. You have access to both of them , including the restaurants from that island. It is a very beautiful hotel located in this amazing area of the world!
Though the place is expensive, it is worth visiting at least once in your lifetime. Great and beautiful accommodations, foods is great but also wish they could change some variation. My only complaint is their internet is super slow.
"Life is a blissful journey at Anantara Dhigu"
At Anantara Dhigu, every staff t-shirt and room key chain has a compelling motto on it - Life is a Journey. We certainly enjoyed our personal journey at this astonishingly beautiful island. We stayed at the Beach Villa (Room no 46) and Over Water Sunset Villa (Room no 100) with Private Pool. Both are spacious and well-appointed with faultless room service. Our children (9 and 6) absolutely loved the Water Villa private pool – we couldn’t get them to get out of it. The Aqua restaurant and pool is the resorts’ epicenter. It’s a cozy, well-planned layout and guests walk, cycle (free-to-use within the resort) or request buggies to get around. Service is prompt, attentive and knowledgeable. The staff go out of their way to make your stay memorable and comfortable. A huge heartfelt thanks to Prashit, for going a step beyond to ensure that our stay would be extra special. Our deepest thank you to Hassan, for the lovely, exceptional service. To Faiq at the Aqua Bar, both Muslim and Jalal at Sea.Fire.Salt restaurant and Tin Tin who provided room service, a big thanks of appreciation. Food is exceptional at every restaurant. We loved the sea food chowder and steaks at Sea.Fire.Salt, street food buffet at Fushi Café and grilled fish at Aqua. Baan Hura deserves its own review. We had to try 3-4 times to find a place at this spectacular Thai restaurant and we are so glad we didn’t give up. Don’t leave without eating at Baan Hura – the Tom Yum soup, Thai green chicken curry and mango desert are simply divine. The betel leaf platter presented at the beginning of the meal is a cultural delight. Going half-board on our trip worked out great for us. Despite all restaurants being open-air and surrounded by greenery, pest control was excellent. We took precautions and packed a repellant cream and ointment in case of bites or stings. We had to use these for a day or two at the Beach Villa until we started using the liquid vaporizing electric plug (provided in all rooms) which was very effective after half an hour. To sum up, we loved the friendly service, great food and well-maintained beaches with pristine waters. It may well be something else that you love about this place. If you are considering visiting Maldives, I hope you uncover your own special journey at Anantara Dhigu.
