"Big hotel, Big room, Big breakfast"
It's a big hotel in Phuket. All buildings are low-rise residents. The room is huge! It's clean and very comfortable. However, the shower area is quite slippery. Need to be careful and may be dangerous for elders. Although my room was far from breakfast area, the food was impressed. International buffet line with good service.
"Amazing resort with friendly staff and outstanding facilities "
Had an amazing time staying here. Ate at their restaurant ban talay and had cocktails at xana and they were really good. Although slightly over priced. Rooms were spacious and clean. Highly recommend staying here! Very clean and the staff were really friendly aswell.
"Great Escape - from everything!"
My boyfriend and I chose this resort because; (1) it was far from the "party-centric" Patong area, (2) the reviews about this resort were very good, and (3) the price was very reasonable for a resort! Overall conclusion of this review: amazing hotel, great service, would stay here if I were to come to Phuket again! Check-in: We arrived at the hotel very late, around 8pm. However, the staff at the front of the hotel who deal with taxis, limousines, shuttle buses, etc. greeted us very warmly and proceeded to take our luggage and lead us to the check-in counter. The ambience of the check-in counter was amazing at night. Dimly lit but very welcoming. The check-in was stress free, and they provided us with cold moist towels, a small drink infused with Thai fruits (could not get the name, but it was very good!), and a delectable little peanut toffee. After check-in, the staff lead us to our room, which was very close to the lobby. Rooms: We stayed in the Laguna Grand Room and it was the best choice we ever made. The room was very spacious, clean, and the aroma smelled great! Clean towels were replaced two times every day, which was great for us since we would use our towels during the day for after-pool showers. When we came back from our day-time activities, the room would be sparkly clean with our amenities replenished. Amenities included toothbrushes with Colgate toothpaste, nail file, cotton balls and q-tips, shower caps, bar soap, and the usual shampoo, conditioner, body soap, and body lotion. The shower and bath tub was very spacious and the de-humidifier in the shower room worked great. There was also complimentary coffee, tea, and four big glass bottles of drinking water. The air conditioning and de-humidifier in the room also worked great so we never felt too hot even though it was around 30 degrees outside. There were also night robes, iron and ironing board, a safety box to store your valuables, and plenty of hangers so you could dry your swimwear. The staff also provided us with a mosquito repelling machine but the hotel was so well maintained that we had no problems with mosquitos or any other insects during our stay. Very thoughtful precautionary measure, though. Food: The breakfast at the Marketplace was one of the things I looked forward to every day. They serve a variety of foods from the traditional "continental" breakfast to Thai food, Chinese food, and some selections of Indian and Japanese foods. They have a great fruit bar with Thai fruits like longan, dragon fruit, and papaya. The staff were also very warm and friendly even at 7 in the morning! Lots of smiles all around. There was also one incident where a man slipped and hurt his head, but the staff were very prompt with the response and very professional. The first responders were very calm and the other staff did not "rubberneck" the accident scene and maintained a very calm and collected atmosphere for the other guests. It was a scary incident but I was very impressed with the professionalism of the staff. We had some pad thai and khao pad at the Baan Talay on our first night at the hotel since we were too tired to go outside. The flavor was nice, the I felt that the serving size was a little too small for the price, especially for dinner. We left the restaurant still feeling a bit hungry after our dinner that night. The flavor and service was good, though. Pools: The pool was great and clean with lots of seats! They have one side that is a normal pool area and another side that is a "sandy beach" pool. The beach part has volleyball nets, basketball hoops, and a number of balls so children and adults can play. There was an incident where strong winds started blowing and some of the beach parasols got blown into the pool, so the staff escorted us to another side of the pool. They really have a "safety first" mentality which lets you know they really care about your safety! The beach area was very clean too, but unfortunately we could not go into the water because of the high currents. Outside area: There is a shuttle bus that goes around the Laguna area and it comes every 5-10 minutes. To go outside, you have to ride the shuttle to Canal Village where you have to transfer to another shuttle that only comes at 1, 3, 7, or 9pm that goes to the outside station. From there, you can go out and see some shops, restaurants, cafes, or get a taxi to the Patong area. It is nothing like the Laguna area but you can get a small glimpse of the "real" Phuket there. Some Ideas: Since we really liked the peanut toffee and the juice they served us at the check-in, we really wanted to buy those things to bring back home as souvenirs. We were slightly disappointed to find out that the hotel did not have a gift shop of some sorts because the hotel had some amazing products! All in all, our vacation was great because of the warm, welcoming atmosphere of the hotel, staff, and the nature surrounding the Laguna. We felt very sad on the very last day because of the great memories we had at this hotel. It's only been a few days since we left but we already want to go back again!
"Excellent resort but dated rooms"
First impressions of Angsana were not good. The check-in area was not very welcoming and check-in took quite a while. The room types were a bit confusing as the Laguna King and Laguna Grand seem to be the same category. This room is quiet but far from everything. We informed the reception and they kindly put in the poolside room which was closer to the breakfast/pool/beach areas. Once we arrived in the room, we were not so impressed. The room was big but the bathroom in comparision was small and the shower area was uncomfortable as there was no bath tub, shower was also weak and toilet needed flushing several times. In addition, the hotel was full due to Chinese vacations and therefore the room was noisy. The walls are very thin and you can hear everything from rooms upstairs/downstrairs as well as outside. We were pretty disappointed. We had booked to stay here for 7 nights and were thinking we should check out after one. After some time, we went to explore the hotel and our disappointment quickly vanished. The swimming pool was amazing, warm and huge (300m+), you could always find a sunchair and there was a swim up bar. One of the best pools you will find a hotel anywhere. The poolside restaurant for lunch was good, the food at bodega was excellent but the portions were tiny, the Thai restaurant was excellent and the marketplace for breakfast was also very good - huge variety. What made this place stand out was the service. Every single member of staff was hugely accomodating to our needs. They would honour nearly all food requests, send food from one restuarant to another etc. Really impressive service throughout. Even the operator answered the phone every time within one ring and we were able to get a baby bath for the shower. The hotel has activities throughout the day for adults and kids and this list is emailed to you the day before which was very helpful. The kids club was also quite good. The beach area was great - quiet, huge beach and this is one of the few hotels in Phuket which is actually on the beach. If you walk down the beach towards the Dusit, there are some local massage places and small shack type restaurants. The greenary of the resort was stunnig. I'm amazed that they managed to keep the resort so clean and mostly insect free. Kudos to the housekeeping. Housekeeping come twice a day with fresh towels. We had one incident though, in that the candle in the room was lit and this was near a plastic bag which had started to melt when we got back to the room. We did not even realise that there was a candle there and from then on, we had to make sure that the area around the candle was always kept clear. The hotel is huge, so quite a lot of walking. Getting around the laguna complex was easy (you can go to different hotels within the complex with ease - through free shuttles or boats) but it was challenging to get to the town. There are only 4 shuttles per day and it involves changing shuttle at the Canal Village (which really only had family mart and two cafes). Taxis are pricey at THB 200 for the one mile journey but many restuarants offer delivery or free pickup/drop off. This means that you are not bored of the selection of food options as there are so many to choose from. The XANA infinity pool is stunning but an extortiate THB 3500 to use it during the day until 4pm, then free. The pool was very cold. The happy hour drinks and the food was generally not good at XANA and we got the impression that they were catering almost exclusively for Russians. The actual lobby is quite nice - so why not do the check-in there' - Surely, the hotel would want to give guest a good impression on arrival. Upon check-out there were some additional charges added to the bill (laguna fee)..which were then removed. All in all, we had a really good time and I think that Angsana is a good choice for a hotel within the laguna complex of Phuket. You will not see the real Thailand but it's perfect for a vacation (good food, great service, good value, excellent pool, nice beach - despite the dated room).
"Great for Kids and Family"
I have stayed for 4 nights with 3 year child. There were not many guests while the hotel has huge number of rooms, as a result, stay was quite comfortable. The hotel is not like super luxury but it's facility and service is excellent enough for our vacation memorable, especially for kids. ■ROOM Hotel kindly upgraded the room to "Laguna Grand Room King" Facility itself is not so new and you can see some parts, especially bath room are old already, however, it is well-renovated. Room was wide enough to cover us (2 adults + 1 child). The bottle of water were served more than enough by refueled during turn down service. Just one difficulty was that extra bed was placed just simply on the sofa and it was too hard to lie. ■Facilities The most attractive facility was swimming pool and its length is quite huge and exiting. Our kid was very exited and enjoyed everyday. Kids club was also good with many play grounds and tools. It was much better if there was any activity during rain as most of the time in stay was spent at hotel. ■Restaurants We enjoyed breakfast at Market place and there were variety of foods. We liked real honey and breads. Also, coffee and eggs are available to customize. We enjoyed cappuccino every morning. The food at Poolside was also good. We enjoyed the dinner. ■Service As an overall, the service and hospitality was good enough to make our vacation enjoyable. In fact, hotel was offering good promotion. I've known the package promotion of restaurant food discount. In addition, there was kids promotion whereby kids meals were FREE with adult order which we've only known once spending the meal on the last night. Also, there seems to be hotel tour which may comes with some discount. We've also known this on the last day morning. It may be good that hotel offer these good promotion during check in so that it can be well-known to guests. I have experience to stay this hotel around 25 years ago with my parents when it was Sheraton and now I stayed with my family for this time. The great experience has never changed and I would like to stay again.
