"Convenient, great staff, good rooms"
We were in Cologne for 3 nights, arriving at 1 AM. Arranged a pick up at the airport which was great. The driver was polite and helpful speaking good english (and Turkish) so much so that we arranged for a return to the airport with him as well. Despite the time checking in was a breeze, we were upgraded to a deluxe room with a very strange little box balcony. Felt the need to keep the curtains shut as we looked straight into the building opposite but that is neither here nor there - was waved to by a nice young man on the balcony opposite. The room its was lovely. Quiet, very well maintained and modern. Breakfast was great. Lots of choice. Spread out well so no major traffic jams at the buffet tables. The hotel was a little out of the way for hitting the shops although only a pleasant 10 minute walk along the river to the Cathedral but close to the Chocolate Museum (if you insist). We chose this hotel for its convenience to Essigfabrik which was walking distance on the other side of the river. Overall great hotel. Would definitely return.
"Good hotel & good location"
Stayed at the hotel for 4 nights. I must note that I stayed in the upgraded room so it might be different for the standard rooms. Everything was according to expectations from 4 star hotel. Yes, you could see some small things that could be fixed, but it was only when you really looked for them (like looking beneath the big semi-bathroom-living room counter/table top). The breakfast was adequate as well and the staff was nice & friendly and I liked the overall interior of the hotel. They had some repair works for one of two elevators going on and some upgrades to TV while I stayed (so the tv signal was crappy). Just one operational elevator created some traffic jams in the rush hours (like Monday morning breakfast), but nothing big for me. As I didn’t watch the TV, it didn’t bother me as well.
"Good room at a price"
Had one night in cologne and this was one of the last hotels that had a room near center city. The room was nice with good views of the Cathedral. It is also right on the river across from the Chocolate museum. There is a rooftop balcony that we did not find the time to get to. We did not get the package with the breakfast included so we decided to eat elsewhere. We did stop in to look what was available for breakfast but were disappointed with what was available for the price. The room itself was clean and comfortable. Would stay here again if he price was lower (over 650 Euro for 1 night for 2 adults 2 kids). It is a 10 to 15 minute walk to the cathedral. Pedicabs are available outside the museum next door that make the trip more enjoyable.
We went to this hotel two times in four years and noted that the service actually collapsed. At the origin it was a beautifull hotel focussing on contemporary design and architecture. But it seems that the management decided to turn to low cost service and maintenance. Except at the reception desk, the employees come all from India, Pakistan or elsewhere and only speak english and barely german. Our TV and the coffee machine were also defective. It will be our last visit at this place.
We booked this hotel thinking it would be something completely different. For starters, the air conditioning wasn't working, which made my night a living nightmare as it was really very warm inside. The TV/keyboard system didn't work and a bottle of water from the mini bar cost 5 euros. Breakfast was 20 euros pp, which made us try and find something outside the hotel. The accessible entrance to this hotel is a "back-door" make-do kinda thing, which left me with a very bitter taste. Not to mention my wheelchair tire was damaged because I was told to try and enter through the parking lot entrance. Pretty upsetting.
