"Good Location and Food...othersize so so"
Conveniently near plaka and interesting sites, however, walls are paper thin between guest rooms. Breakfast is delicious. Typically a very busy and active environment. Given the cost, we'd select a different place next time.
"TRUST THE RECEPTION AT THE RISK OF BEING RIPPED OFF!!!"
Avoid using the taxi service from the hotel as I feel we were cheated by the hotel reception and the cab service. We had booked 2 taxis from the hotel to the airport for 9:00 a.m next morning and had agreed a fare of 45 euros per taxi with the hotel reception (38 euros if booked outside hotel) as we wanted to cut the hassle of going out with luggage and find a taxi on our own and. We were given no prior intimidation that a delay of some time will be charged extra. Though some of the senior members from our group were already sitting in the cabs at around 9:05 a.m. we were unable to load all our luggage into the cabs due to some miscommunication between the members of our group and the cab drivers and we could only manage to leave at about 9:16 a.m. Just after leaving I was informed by my cab driver that he will be charging us 50 euros for the delay we caused and I agreed without arguing. On reaching the airport and much to our shock both the cab drivers demanded 55 euros per cab from us and when we asked them the reason, they got very aggressivein their tone. As we had a flight to catch we agreed to pay them what they demanded without any further argument. Later on, speaking amongst us about the incident we realised that the cab drivers were constantly in touch with each other on phone while they were driving us to the airport and it seems like that is the time when they had decided to Rip us off!! After getting home we wrote an email to the hotel about this incident and were very relieved that we had received a positive reply from the hotel stating that they would look into the matter diligently as the booking was done through them and the fare was pre-arranged and fixed. But sadly and after much time we received another reply from the hotel stating that we had delayed the cab service by 29 minutes and the fare that the taxi drivers took was correct which was just shocking!!They even went a step further and asked us to contact the cab service for any further queries. **Our stay at the hotel (3 nights) was very pleasant in general but this incident at the very last moment of our time in Athens has left a very bad memory of the hotel for us** I would just like to advice my fellow travellers to avoid all the pre-arranged services that the reception at this hotel provides (Including services like pre-arranged hop on-hop off bus tours etc.) as just a little bit of extra effort of going out and enquiring will definitely save you money and you can even bargain further.
"Best Restaurant i have found in years on roof"
The hotel foyer and rooms are ordinary, the beds uncomfortable but the owner and staff are wonderful. Then you go to the roof top restaurant. From drab to glorious. A domed roof orangery with 300 degree views over Athens and opposite the Acropolis, lit by two massive chandeliers. That is before the food comes. Seafood soup, Parmesan basket with green salad tossed in the most delicious dressing, crusty sea bass, veal so tender it falls apart, Greek cheese and spinach rolls! The food is absolutely delectable and the wine (I had a Chateaux Julia Merlot that I had not heard of before for 3 nights running). Staff in the restaurant, supervised by the charming Greek owner who also serves the breakfast downstairs in the morning, are attentive and proficient. I rate this as one of the most wondrous gourmet discoveries after 50 years of regular world travel. Perhaps I should have kept this to myself!!
"Avoid Hotel’s taxi service. Management not to be trusted."
We stayed at the Athenian Callirhoe Hotel for 3 days, late last month. We had booked a taxi from the hotel to the airport at the reception desk for 9 am. The fare was fixed at 45 Euro. The regular cab fare is 38 Euro, but we didn’t want the hassle of dealing directly with the taxi service, hence we decided to go with the hotel’s service. As we were in 2 groups staying on different floors (they were full and couldn’t accommodate us on the same floor), there was some miscommunication in the morning and we got delayed by 15 minutes to board the cab. We were informed by the Taxi driver that we would have to pay an additional 5 Euros since we were delayed. We agreed to the same. I checked my phone’s clock at the time and it was 9:16 am. Once we reached the airport, the Taxi driver started demanding 55 Euro from us. If you have interacted with Greek taxi drivers, you’ll have a measure of how aggressive they are. We paid the amount since we didn't want to waste any more time. Our experience for the first 3 days at the hotel was quite good but the last journey has left us with bad memories. In our past experiences, the hotel generally handles the booking so that we do not have to deal with the cab driver. So, we emailed the hotel, in order to understand how this happened, and so that someone else does not have to suffer similarly in future. In the hotel’s first reply, Mr. Angelos Kourkoutis, assured us that since the booking is through them, they are the intermediaries and to quote his email “as the rate is always pre-arranged and there are no extra charges if a client delays.” Relieved, we replied with scans of the taxi bills, as proof that we were indeed charged 55 Euros (17 Euros more than the actual fare for each taxi) Then suddenly, Mr. Kourkoutis changed his tune. He reneged on his own prior statement of there being no additional charge for delay. Worse, he accused us of being delayed by 29 minutes, and in later email he claims 35 minutes! He also informs us that he will happy to pass on the taxi company’s details to us, so that we can take up this matter with them - which is ridiculous! That was our only motivation of paying extra money and availing the hotel’s services. This volte-face is really shocking and disappointing to us. Trust them at the risk of being ripped off!
The hotel is in a great position to access all the sites.The staff were really helpfully and made sure your stay there was good. The hotel rooms were clean and spacious The breakfast was plentiful The roof top restaurant had amazing view
