We spent a really enjoyable week at this hotel. The best thing about this hotel are the management and staff. Their attention to detail and service is the best I've had at a 5 star resort. We requested a room that was quiet and as far away from people as possible. Luckily, the hotel reception put us in a sea view villa that was on the same level as the hotel lobby but at the very end of the path. We didn't have to take a golf cart to get back to our room. We were really lucky that we met Jan Lorenzen, the F&B director of the hotel on our first day. Every morning, his staff was super attentive with our needs. He even customized two separate private cooking classes for us with a Thai chef and their Italian head chef. As we were here for awhile, we also attended several of their free hotel activities/classes including, learning the basics of Thai massage (from Pam), corsage making, windsurfing, tennis, and yoga. All the classes and instructors were a lot of fun, with limited spots available so they felt like private lessons.
"Quite simply, amazing"
We got married at Belmond Napasai, and so with 50+ of our family and friends also staying here, we hoped we made the right decision in choosing this hotel. We were not let down, this was far and away one of the best holidays we've ever had. We are slightly biased because we did get married while we were here, but that just meant the hotel had a lot more to demonstrate to us and our guests and we couldn't ask for anything more. If you're considering Belmond Napasai for your wedding - we cannot recommend this place enough. Eszter and the team were incredible. We first came across Belmond Napasi in December 2015 while visiting Samui to scope out some wedding venues, and for us the Napasai was a clear stand out. Sure there are other, cheaper options, but the quality and level of service we all experienced was first class. And after seeing the infinity pool and private beach you know you're in for a treat. The venue itself is spectacular to a point where the photos don't do it justice. There was the 12+ months of planning and working with Eszter remotely to get us there in the first place. It took many emails and Skype calls but communication was great, efficient and timely. Eszter and the team did such an incredible job of pulling together a wedding event that we will cherish forever, but for us it was a culmination of the little things and special touches that we think really made our experience. Meeting with Head Chef Wally (the food is brilliant, plenty of variety and quality on par or better than back in Australia), the Hotel's GM Jeroen, my beautiful bride and her bridesmaids being granted complimentary access to one of the luxurious residences the day of the wedding to relax and get ready, hair/make up etc, working with us around minor details to ensure our day was just how we wanted it, right down to all the staff being so friendly and helpful with our every wish. Another review has already made this point and I'll certainly back it up, you're made to feel very special and exclusive. Some tips/words of advice; - Drinks are expensive, especially champagne and wine, be prepared for that. Champagne and wine are considered luxury items by the Thai government and incur 400% taxes so there's no real way around it. Personally we felt the standard Belmond Napasai wine packages do not represent good value and so we were able to negotiate an alternate arrangement, so just speak to the team and ask. - The hotel location is somewhat isolated, and so if you and your guests like to wander or explore at their own will then the location may prove to be a pain. That said the hotel is relatively close (15 mins drive) to Fisherman's Village in Bophut, and we easily organised some large group excursions into Chaweng for dinners and nights out. - WIFI coverage is good across the hotel, but bandwidth was an issue. Normally I don't care whether WIFI is available, good, bad or otherwise, but in a large group it's handy of course to help organise things. If you're considering staying at Belmond Napasai - the hotel itself is just fantastic. We stayed in an Oceanfront Villa for 10 nights and could easily have stayed another 10! Our day typically started with a stand-up paddle-board session right up to the edge of the resort and back, a 2 or 3 course breakfast welcomed by the wonderfully warm staff that new our names (sadly I forgot to grab their names!) that was everything you could ask for, then chilling out on a day bed, reading, swim, day bed, swim, repeat. Lunch at some stage where Tik knew our order after only a couple of days. We were also treated to a couple of massages that were amazing. I mentioned it above but the food, for a hotel, was top shelf. Chef Wally was always around and loved a chat, definitely say hi to him. We had dinner a few times at the Thai restaurant and that was always of a high standard. We also enjoyed the seafood BBQ buffet on our last night and that was also fantastic, plenty of fresh seafood options and the desserts were equally incredible. We were so sad to say goodbye and it was obvious that many of the staff felt the same way. We initially thought that perhaps it was because we were a couple that got married there was why the staff were so great to us, but after our wedding and taking some time to blend in with other guests it was obvious that the staff were like that with every guest. This is one of those rare hotels that we genuinely felt we left having made friends with so many of the lovely staff, and we look forward to seeing our friends again very soon.
"A very relaxing retreat"
After spending 4 nights in the hustle and bustle of Bangkok arriving at the Belmond Napasai was refreshingly calm. On arrival we were greeted by the reception team and offered refreshments and coconut ice cream which was delicious. We were then escorted to our room for the next 10 nights-which was a sea view villa, very spacious, clean and well appointed. The beach is quite small and rocky with plenty of sun-loungers and umbrellas, no need to be up at dawn to secure a space! The pool area is beautiful and the staff at the pool and beach are more than helpful. Breakfast is amazing with everything you could possibly want and more, the coffee really good and eggs cooked to order. We ate at the hotel most nights, the Thai restaurant is very good and the other more international restaurant on the beach serves lunch as well as dinner and was a little chaotic a lot of the time. However the food was of a good standard. The only thing I could find to be picky about was the bar area- I personally didn't like the darts/pool/ games area right next to the bar with its chilling seating, to me it didn't work. I would also suggest a happy hour to drum up a bit of business as most nights I noticed there were only one or two other couples having a pre dinner drink so the area lacked atmosphere. I have to say the staff at this hotel are truly fabulous! Every single member of staff treated us as royalty which made our stay very special.
"beautiful resort, wonderful staff"
We booked a "luxury escapes" package deal for 4 friends in April. very impressed with all aspects of the resort. Clean, well kept (i got the feel that it's a little on the older style but no actual issues noted), delicious food, helpful and friendly staff, amazing pool, private beach area, free activities, what more could you ask for'! On top of that the king size bed and pillows were sooooo comfortable. The only issue was sleeping in due to cicada noise starting any time from 6am onwards - can't really be helped when your cabin is set among trees and gardens, but we were on the far right side (when looking out to sea) room 121 and noticed they were very loud there, but not so loud as you got closer to the centre of the resort. Might be something to consider if you're wanting to sleep late, but why would you want to when there's so much to explore on the island! Location wise - bottom of hill near entrance is a convenience store. Hotel will drop you in golf buggy to entrance, then easy to get a taxi to anywhere. Alternatively reception can order you a car, for which prices are fairly comparable to taxi fare. About 5-10 min drive to Maenam main area, 10-15 min to Bophut / fishermans village. Walkable distance but due to busy main roads, poorly kept / non existant footpaths, and the heat and humidity we didn't try it ourselves. Buffet breakfast was included and a good range of continental and cooked food - egg chef available for omlettes etc. Fresh juice/smoothie bar and tea/coffee. Infinity edge pool was big enough to find our own space and usually a day bed too, despite it being easter and lots of families there. Perfect for sunset cocktails. Wifi free and mostly good coverage throughout the resort (limited down at beach side). We tried the yoga class and stand up paddleboarding which was free and lots of fun. Also had a 1 hour thai massage at the spa which was amazing, but prices a bit expensive. Walk along Maenam beach and you should be able to find one nearly as good for a fraction of the price (we did!). Beautiful ocean view from all the beachfront and seaview villas as far as I could tell (though perhaps not some of the garden suites'). The cleaning staff do a wonderful job, being a bit of a germaphobe it doesn't take much to gross me out, but did not notice a single thing the whole time we were there to worry me! There is a bit of wildlife around (besides the cicadas) such as squirrels, butterflies, a small snake (he was sunbaking on our step but quickly slithered off when approached), frogs, and a cute friendly cat that hung out near the restaurant. When the sun starts to set and all the lights strung in the trees throughout the resort come on, the place fills with a kind of magical vibe. Definitely try to do the seafood buffet night on the beach, with fire twirling show (very impressive!!!). All the staff from reception, car drivers, right down to the pool boys were so helpful and wonderful, most speaking very good english. I really can't fault anything with our stay at all, it was perfect for a weeks holiday (or even longer if you can manage it!). Definitely recommend!
Upon arriving at the hotel we were met by the hotel staff. Our luggage was grouped by family and then we were led to a small area and given cold refreshing towels and water. As we were early our rooms were not ready, but this was not an issue. A little while later we picked up our keys and went to our room, wow! Every room had a great sea view, bear in mind we were second row back. Our room was on 'stilts' and position between two lower villas. You slide the doors open and are greeted by a large bedroom. Then go through another pair of sliding doors and you find the bathroom, wow again. The room was spotless and very well presented. That night we decided to eat at the hotel. They struggled with a large party (20), the food was okay and the staff always pleasant but some of the group waited a long time for the meal. The next day we spent time around the pool and beach. Beach towels had already been laid out and there is a buzzer should you want to order drinks or food. Service was very good. You pay 120 baht (approx.) for a coke, so drinks are a bit expensive, but remember this is a 5 star hotel. The grounds are very well kept and there is a pool table, dart board, Wii console, tennis court plus lots of non motorised boats, so lots to do. We were staying at this hotel for my daughters wedding, which was very well organised, the food was great and the staff so helpful, especially the babysitter who looked after my 5 month old grandson. If you are thinking about having you wedding in Thailand then we highly recommend this hotel. Just down the road (20 mins taxi ride) is Bohput, here there are lots of places to eat, worth the visit. This was our first visit to Thailand and I have to say the people are so nice and cannot do enough for you.
