"good hotel in right place"
I have been there couple days ago. Location is good, just around 100 meters from Cabot Arcade - large shopping mall, bus from London (megabus to be precise) stops around 400 meters from hotel, so you can walk easily. Rooms : i'v stayed in superior room and haven't seen standards, but i guess all amenities would be the same (tea kettle, coffee machine, toiletries, iron, hairdryer etc). bed was normal. breakfast: it's buffet style but containing everything from traditional English breakfast and much more, taste food. the only major upset was wi-fi, it was chargeable and quite expensive. Hey guys, wake up, it's 21st century, who is charging so hardly on wi-fi, shame on you.
"Ideal Central Location"
Very centrally located hotel, clean and tidy with very helpful staff. The hotel is adjacent to a shopping centre and has many different restaurants around it, Would recommend an Italian called L’Osteria nearby.
The hotel is conveniently located in centre of Bristol with a NCP car park next door and if you pay for parking at the hotel reception you get a preferential rate. Checked in via Marriott App and key card was immediately available when arriving at hotel which saved time. The hotel looks and feels tired though and the hotel is in need of a refurbishment. Very comfortable bed and curtains were dark which meant that good nights sleep was enjoyed. There was a safe in the room but it was locked and couldn't be used. Immediately reported the locked safe to reception and was told that an engineer would fix but the safe wasn't fixed and no apology was given. I don't know whether the engineer wasn't able to fix the problem or the gentleman on reception didn't pass on details to the maintenance engineer. Check out was quick and smooth but disappointingly weren't asked if we had enjoyed our stay.
"What a disappointment"
This weekend was to meet up with friends we had not seen for years and to celebrate, quietly, our birthdays (78 and 75) and also our Silver Wedding Anniversary, we were having a party with friends and family on a weekend in November, just wanted an escape. We have stayed at several Marriott hotels in the past the others were great, this left a lot to be desired.. My husband booked direct and explained that I just do not go in lifts (stuck once - horrible experience) so he asked for a room on a low floor. When we arrived, we were told our room was on the fifth floor because the lower floors, ie., one to four, were allocated to a large number of stag and hen parties staying overnight and it would be quieter for us on the fifth floor. We were tired after our journey and did not want to go round looking for another hotel. BUT it would have been really nice if someone had contacted us, explained the situation so we would have had time to make alternative arrangements. I would not be writing this review if Marriot Bristol had done that. So I had to walk up and down approximately 14 flights of stairs to get to our room which, after our two day break left me worn out. Our room was a good size but, apart from the bed and tv, needing updating, especially the bathroom. Worst of all, there were some hen parties staying on our floor and from midnight until about 2am the noise and language was awful. So much for a quiet floor. Because of being inconvenienced we were given complimentary access to the Executive Lounge, we went for drink the first evening, the waitress was lovely, the second evening a family arrived with noisy child and pushchair, a young man walked in with large backpack and holdall, he turned, whacked me on the shoulder, I managed to grab the table so I did not fall onto the floor. Not what I expected from an Executive Lounge. The lifts had a mind of their own, my husband and two other gentlemen having to walk down because the lift could not decide which floor to go to. And finally, on the last morning, there was no water throughout the hotel, maintenance was being done - on a very busy weekend !!! We decided to check out a bit early, just as well, only two people in front of us, when we left the queues were to the door and everyone was very cross. Yes I understand this was an accident BUT there was no Supervisor nor Senior Manager in Reception explaining what had happened the poor Reception Staff had to cope on their own without any support. Not what I expected from a four star hotel, I wrote to Marriott direct (same as above) they did sent a partial refund for our inconvenience.
"Nice Staff, shabby building, party next door woke us up at 05.15AM & not much response from security"
Plus points. Nice welcoming staff on reception, large clean room, well stocked bar area, in-house Starbucks, easy walk to the city centre. Negative points. A bit shabby, eg dirty exterior with graffiti sprayed on some of the walls, some of the lights missing in the main Marriott sign (reads ‘Marri t’!), room décor is a bit dated Additional charges such as parking at an extra £17 per day may come as a surprise and needs to be considered Exceptionally noisy early in the morning when the groups return from the night clubs. My partner and I were woken at 05.15 by loud music and a party in the next room, called security but apart from a timid knock on their door and ‘could you turn the music off please lads’ there was very little action taken. Customer Service promised to ‘look into it’ Can only speak for my experience but if you are are visiting Bristol for the club and party scene then this is probably a good hotel for you, if you are with a young family or simply enjoy a good nights sleep then I would give it a miss.
