This hotel is beyond your imagination from the decor to the location. I was lucky to be greeted by a very nice man and upgraded to one of their best suits room 210. Really recommend this hotel to anyone who goes to Budapest for fun or leisure. Great restaurant and amazing sushi as well with an impressive buddha stay in gold.
"Amazing building in a great location."
The Buddha Bar Hotel is in a great location near shops, restaurants and a metro station. The hotel is impressive and we received a nice welcome when checking in. Our room on the third floor was spacious with a large bathroom and a shower over the bath. The sides of the bath were very high so would be impossible for someone elderly or with a disability to use. The room was very comfortable with a well stocked mini bar. Unfortunately the roof top bar was closed and also the Buddha Bar one of the nights of our stay. Breakfast was either a buffet or a la carte with the option to sit inside or outside. My only negative was some of the service apart from reception could have been friendlier especially in the bar.
"A good nights rest in Pest"
First time in Budapest so the location proved to be spot on. The black and red theme within the hotel itself if very calming but in the bedrooms it was too much and created a very dark room and you need lights on all the time. The breakfasts were good, excellent staff and a very restful place in the centre of a busy city. WIthin easy reach of all the attractions by foot or even the metro. My one criticism is the availability of tea and coffee in the rooms. Whist they did provide a kettle and tea bags we had to make several requests for a milk and I personally do not like coffee out of pods; they seemed either unwilling or unable to provide any alternative. So if you like fresh coffee take a your own and a cafetière. Overall a good place to stay and we would be happy to use again and indeed have recommended to friends.
"NOT a 5-star"
We booked a week’s holiday with Jet 2 staying at the Buddha Bar Hotel rate by Jet2 as 5 star. This is a pleasant hotel, but 5-star is overrating it. Reception was good, and a very polite and helpful porter took us to our room and showed us around. We had paid for an executive Room, (over 40m2), this room didn’t look like that size, but then my wife asked where do we hang our clothes. He showed us a small alcove with two coat hangers, and a couple of shelves my wife pointed out that we are here for a week, that is hardly not room for our clothes, we explained that the room did not look like the rooms we had seen on the web site as executive rooms. The porter called his manager and we were moved rooms, to a room that looked like the executive room pictures. It is disappointing that we felt that they tried to downgrade us. Our executive room was bigger than the former and had plenty of storage place, a nice room. The bed was comfortable. The rooms are dark, but if you look at the website, they are as they look (maybe not as new and fresh). The bedside lights were tucked behind the headboard and did not work, but not aa big deal. Stepping into the shower over the side of the bath if you are infirm is very difficult as it is higher than average. The shower is in two parts, a deluge and a hand-held spray. The deluge spilled over the edge beyond the glass frame causing the floor to get wet. Towels are not the quality you would expect in a 5-star hotel. Room cleaning was excellent for the first few days we were there, but then it went downhill, there was a dust bunny on the floor, which we deliberately left, for four days. Twice they did not leave a spare toilet roll. We asked for them to be provided, which we got once, but not the second time, and we had to resort to our own consumables. The bar in the hotel is excellent, and provides decent quality drinks and cocktails with polite and helpful staff. Both restaurants are excellent, but I’ll cover them in separate reviews. My wife used the spa for a nail treatment. It was very poor. It offered only nine nail colours and the end result was patchy. For half the price, there are other nearby places that offer many more colours and we’d be very surprised if they were not better. The staff are all very respectful, polite and helpful, though on checkout we were a bit surprised when the guy checking us answered the telephone, particularly as there were two other people sitting at the adjacent desks not attending to people. This is a very good hotel, but I feel it is overrated at 5-stars, and a bit overpriced. The room was big and comfortable, but I believe you could get better for similar money. I doubt, unless we got a really good deal, that we would stay here again.
"Dark, dingy rooms"
As one would get the view of the rooms while booking the hotel only it's more dark from inside. To get light one would have to open the curtains which would hinder privacy as the opposite side building windows are close. Service in the restaurant is very nice but that can be visited while staying in some other hotel also. I saw most people rated it 5 and that made me more biased to book it. But in my personal opinion I would expect more from a hotel at this price and rating. The rooms are dark and small. The front office is cooperative but lacks the warmth. Totally professional but not warm as one would expect. Overall a three star experience for me. Not the kind of place I would book again. I would look for more spacious and bright rooms the next time I am in Budapest and at this price there will be good options I believe. While booking the room go with the first instinct the space and color and don't be biased with reviews. Some people may like it but maybe it's not you like it's not me.
