"Paradise on earth"
Absolutely wonderful place to be spoiled. Our third time here. Attention is brought to every details on food and service. Very nice choice and quality of food. Still, I wish the spa restaurant from ten years ago had kept the same with its wonderful order made breakfast plates and great diner menu. The champagne and lobsters diner on every Saturday is a must. Underwater is beautiful on whole East edge, encountered turtles, white tip sharks, eagle rays, safari fishes, squids, etc. No mosquito bite as the whole island is sprayed, which is very much appreciated in such a tropical place.
"Tips before you visit maldives "
Firstly, note that the tips/criticism are for (higher end) maldives travels in general, nothing against conrad. In fact, we had such a good time that my wife was apparently quite moody towards that last 24hrs of our visit, knowing that it was ending soon... Also, by "higher end", i dont necessarily mean luxury travel. I only refer to travellers who have high expectations when it comes to their holidays So here is the first tip...if you are going to get water villa, make sure they give you the non-wavey side. If you get the side of the island where waves are strong, you might as well skip the water villa and do the beach villa instead. Not only Strong waves keep you awake at night, your water front has no practical use except for facebook show off only (water is cloudy, no point for you to swim or snorkel). Seriously booking a water villa on the strong wave side of the island is like getting a branded handbag that is used, made 20yrs ago....the only good thing is (showing off) the brand, eveyrthing else is old and not trendy. Then it comes to the food. The suggestions below might sound ironic considering the target audience is "high end" travellers. But trust me, my suggestions make sense. Goto your favourite supermarket in your home country and get your favourite food before going to maldives. Bring a truck load of them to maldives. This is not about saving money, but its about maintaining the standard you have for food. This is not about being a tightass, but its about being romantic. This is not about downgrading yourself from high end traveller to a low class citizen, rather its about perserving your high end status and being different from the wannabe crowd who are eating low quality food. Food in maldives are not just terrible, they are consistently terrible. (Ok prob 90percent of them, manhdoo restuarant being one of the few exceptions). We went to that worlds first ever underwater restuarant. They served lobster and waygu beef in the set menu. I have never struggled to eat lobster and waygu beef in my life. By the second day of our stay, my stomach has convinced itself not to be hungry ever on this island. Seriously, no joke, i stopped feeling hungry not because i am well fed, but because i dont want to be fed. Next problem is that dishes are served very slowly. Again, not sure if its intention or the problem relating to lack of good chefs. The dishes were served so slowly that on one occasion, a group of self entertaining aussie guests near us stopped being loud and when into quiet mode and started playin with their table salts. The next problem, i think, its someone in the head quarter with a degree in hospitality prob came and told the waiters "my dear waiters who are stuck in this island, in big international cities, we perfect the dining experience by occasionally asking the guests how is their food..." and they probably took it too literally. They came over every 2minutes and ask how its our food. And funny enough, its the same food that they are asking about, cos the next dish werent served till 30min later. Again, above experience is largely consistent in most restuarants and most resorts in maldives. The thai express place at the airport was, sadly, my best meal on the island. Oh, have to say manhoo restuarant is worth the money though. So my dear fellow travellers who pride your travel experience, you have two choices. One, you can eat out as often as you like, be one of the wannabes who show off on their facebooks for the first five minutes of your dinner, then enjoy bad food and annoying process for the remaining of the dinner; or bring your fabourite food, enjoy a romantic and quiet night at one of the beaches whenever and however long/short you like, and spend your valuable time taking up other adventures on the island.
""Lovely Holiday at Rangeli""
We went to Conrad Rangeli for 8 nights at end of June, We stayed in a Deluxe beach villa with pool on a half board basis. On arrival at Male we were taken to their lovely lounge to await sea plane,Pros lounge is lovely, back massage nice, lovely drinks and snacks Cons more toilets and showers are needed, furniture tired in places. After a short flight we were warmly welcomed with a lovely refreshing sorbet and taken to reception by Anees our personal helper (very nice guy and once he realised we d been to Maldives before stopped the hard sell !!!) Our room was beautiful, I had written before and asked for privacy away from children. This is one of the best room we have stayed in in the Maldives and had everything you could need. It is also extremely good value for money for what it is. Our package entitled us to take meals at " Atoll market" Very nice selection of food with different themes daily. The staff are lovely and very friendly. There is also an option to take breakfast at "Villu" which is on the other island. You can take a boat to this which is lovely, You may also take meals in the other restaurants and get an allowance of 75 dollars towards this from your half board.. We went to "Villu" one night and had dinner.I love lobster so was excited to be able to have this, When we got there there appeared to be a film crew in one of the buildings. Not quite sure this gave the romantic setting we needed, It was very distracting with large lights in your face. The service was shocking and we waited for an hour for a starter. When lobster arrived it was mediocre and at end of meal when asked all ok my husband was so fed up he said no. This is where Conrad come into their own. The Food and Beverage manager Mr Gaetano Tufaro came and kindly said there would be no charge and that they were having a particularaly busy night. Top marks for this. A really negative situation turned into a very positive. Thank you, This gentleman is a an asset to you. We did try a couple of the other restaurants but were happy at the Atoll as although the service was personal the extra cost was really not worth it.. Be warned prices are very expensive. Yes items are imported but this has got to be one of the most expensive we have stayed in in the Maldives. For us luckily its not about the money,it s more about the value and we did not feel inclined to pay those prices. I understand for some people this will be a once in a lifetime trip and that they may wish to do so. I suppose if you wish to go to each restaurant and do all the activities you ll be paying off an overdraft for long time As for the islands as are most in the Maldives it s beautiful and everything you imagine. Will we return ' Answer is probably not. We enjoy the intimacy of a smaller place and there was a sort of package holiday feel to this place. The bar and pool in particular. I also am amazed that people feel you want to watch their children playing all sorts of games and running about whilst having dinner. Maybe you need to have a family area where they can all play together whilst parents are having dinner. Also lots of Asian people who behave in quite a different way to europeans. So to sum up the Conrad Rangeli the staff are all lovely, the room was fabulous, the Attoll buffet was a good buffet each day and we came away rested and happy. We will probably go back to a smaller island where the emphasis is more on couples.
"Very Nice Maldive Resort "
Conrad Maldives is very nice and few key elements is what you exactly expected from Maldives. Water Villa - super nice with jacuzzi facing the Indian Ocean. Turquoise crystal clear water was amazing. I requested a villa more private they give me room in far end so there is 180 ocean view Pricy but worth to try. Some people stay some night in Water Villa and some on Beach Villa. Service - is lovely. All staff are very nice. They give me the lovely bed birthday surprise. Home Reef Snorkelling - in Conrad was good quite a lot of fishes and I swim the Turtle and saw a Shark! Coral was dead. Spa over water - Iconic spa over water. Nice view facing wavy Indian Ocean. Underwater Restaurant - quite amazing. Good photo opportunity. Pricy. Food is so so. Dinning - I have half board so breakfast and dinner is included. Breakfast was very nice. There is two place for breakfast one is buffet and another is a la carte. The a la carte breakfast in the opposite island of the reception was nice with rose wine included. Dinner in the same restaurant for same buffet which I got tired after second night. Suggest to add abit top up to try some of the a la carte restaurants.
"Amazing Second Visit...already planning next year"
We first visited Conrad Rangali in 2015, and after trying another island in 2016 (we have been to 7 Maldivian islands in total) we decided that this year we would return to Conrad. We arrived into Male late, so opted to stay overnight near the airport. In the morning, the transfer to Conrad was quick and efficient, checked in at the Conrad lounge, and was quickly flown to paradise. As per the Conrad standard, we were met at the jetty, and welcomed back by numerous staff. Olga our hostess was friendly, efficient, and quickly escorted us to the reception area and we were in our villa in no time. Our room was a deluxe beach villa with a pool. The room was clean, spacious and has absolutely everything you need, ready on arrival with a lovely bottle of wine. During our stay, we ate at Mandhoo, Ithaa, the beach BBQ, the lobster and champagne dinner, and Rangali bar. The beach BBQ was our favourite, Ali our waiter, who also looked after us often at Vilu made sure we had the best evening, he really is an asset to the Conrad, as are all the staff. We enjoyed Ithaa, although there was a change from our previous visit, where there is no longer 2 choices, it is now a set menu, I would have preferred two options, but if there is anything you do not like, then the staff make every effort to change it for you. Ithaa is still a wonderful must do experience, our daughter loves it there. Rangali bar staff are all wonderful, Kosi, Nishaam, Joyce and all the team (too many to list!) are so friendly and ensure you have everything you need. Take advantage of happy hour! The food at Rangali is also very good. We took the whale shark trip and was lucky enough to see one which is always an amazing experience, we also took the lucky dolphin trip and spent some amazing time with a pod of pilot whales which was another amazing experience. Our daughter is now 10 so we were wondering if she would enjoy kids club as much as she did on our prior visit being a bit older, but the kids club team are absolutely fantastic and the activities are out of this world, the highlight for her being the pirate ship cruise, when she told me the details, I actually wanted to go!! She spent so much time at the kids club, we cannot recommend the team enough! Snorkelling around the reef was amazing as always, there has been some bleaching which was sad to see, but there is still so much amazing marine life to see including turtles. Dive school and water sports facilities are also fantastic, latest equipment and fully ensures the safety of all guests. The staff really are the biggest asset for this resort, and it is clear that the resort values it staff by the number of years the staff remain at the island, some over 20 years, their goal is to ensure you have the best holiday experience, and they are genuinely happy to deliver that goal. Last but not least! There is one man that really makes this exceptional holiday experience happen, Bobby the hotel manager, I have never experienced the level of personal service from a hotel manager in any other hotel, anywhere in the world (and we have traveled alot!) . Bobby is constantly available around the resort, talking and listening to guests, ensuring everything is as it should be, he is a fantastic asset to this resort, and really does go above and beyond to ensure that his guests are happy and feel like they are personally welcome. I cannot recommend this resort enough, your expectations will be met and exceeded. We can't wait to return.
