"Great location at reasonable price for NYC"
I stayed here for five nights, and was very pleased with my selection. The location is excellent, just a short walk to Penn Station in one direction, and Times Square in the other. The room was comfortable, and included all the usual amenities. There's a nice gym in the basement, along with a self service laundry room. I didn't eat in the hotel, so I can't comment on the restaurant. The staff were friendly and helpful, and trying to do their best during the week I was there when the hotel had no water from 8am to 2pm due to the city ripping up the street to install new water pipes. The only reason I didn't give the hotel the highest rating is because I was disappointed that they didn't offer guests any discount, particularly Gold members like me, due to this rather annoying inconvenience. Instead we were merely given some extra bonus points. When I complained about this, one staff member did reduce my rate, but only for that one day. Guests were told that it's the city's fault for the pipe replacement, which is technically true. But I don't think the hotel should expect its guests to shoulder the entire burden and pay the normal rate for a room without proper water service (no toilet, shower or running water). And because I was notified just one day before my arrival, there was obviously insufficient time to cancel, and book another hotel in the midtown area.
I stayed at Courtyard By Marriott Time Square for 4 nights during May. The hotel is reasonably priced for New York City. It is centrally located and everything in NYC is accessible from this location via walking or subway. The service is good and staff is friendly. For dining, I suggest you walk a little to places that are a little off the beaten path. You can get a cab or subway ride to the Village or Little Italy and enjoy a wide variety of restaurants. Do not forget discounted tickets for Broadway shows and theaters.
"Excellent Suite, Great Location"
I had to stay in NYC for a couple of days and the rate for the Marriott was good. The suite was large with a sofa and chair sitting area and kitchen. There is a Whole Foods two blocks away so I was able to eat in, which made the stay cheaper. The suite was very comfortable and the location great--12-15 minute walk to Grand Central or Broadway. The staff was friendly and helpful. If the price is right I would definitely stay there again.
"Great long weekend"
My wife and I stayed here and the hotel and staff were fantastic. We will stay here next time we are in NYC. Great location and great atmosphere! The staff was more than willing to assist us with anything. We didn't eat at the restaurant, but we had drinks at the bar during happy hour. The bar tender and the drinks were on point.
I am renovating my mother's apartment and have travelled to NYC three times in the last month and stayed at different hotels on each occasion. Upon my arrival at Courtyard Marriott Hotel on West 37th Street around 9pm on May 15, I was told that the water would be turned off at 8:00am the following day. I declined the offer to find another hotel because of the late hour. I complained to the manager that I should have been notified of the problem and was offered a 10% discount. I continued to complain and was offered a 25% discount. I added, "Would you pay $150. for a hotel with no water'" In response to my request for a quiet room, the desk clerk assigned me a room and commented, "No one goes up there!" (A bit creepy). The assigned room was clean and spacious, but it was for the handicapped so had no tub! Again, there was a significant omission of information. Things went from bad to worse as I found myself coughing throughout the night. When I told the contractor about my cough he stated that the room was probably rarely used and the a/c filters were dirty! Hmmmm, makes sense!!! In addition, the mattress was very soft, lumpy and uncomfortable. I have to thank hotels.com for crediting me for the cost of the night. Frankly, I would have preferred water, clean air filters and a decent mattress. Shame on the manager of Courtyard for offering poor service! P.S. I stayed at The Lexington, another Marriott the previous weekend and noted it was "entirely adequate".
