"Nice rooms but would not recommend the restaurant "
Stayed here for my nieces hen do 10 of us in 3 rooms & had a late lunch meal in the bar/restaurant I would not recommend eating there as the staff were not very attentive, had to ask for drinks order to be taken & some main courses came with veg or chips so ended up with just chicken breast & 3 asparagus on a plate! Late check out of the room is a bonus & parking onsite is a must but expensive at £15 a night Next time we will pay a little extra to be nearer the city centre like Queens
"Comfortable well appointed rooms"
This hotel is located fairly centrally, just outside the hustle and bustle of the heart of the city but still a comfortable walk from the train station. My room was clean, spacious and comfortable with good air conditioning. The shower was a little weak but otherwise all was fine. Breakfast was excellent with a good selection of hot and cold food. The restaurant was also not bad for evening meal. The only thing to let it down was poor service from Mam the barman who was slow and preferred to take a room service order rather than serve waiting customers.
Nice room. Very clean. Mini bar should of been filled without having to ask. Lovely touch that they leave a pillow spray and chocolates also some bottled water. Bout 10 min walk from station. Would definitely stay here again xx
"hen party stay"
Bit of a farce trying to get checked in as no rooms available till three, we were going out for four had a reservation, Should have been in at 2...... other that that the service, rooms and food and beverages nothing to complain about. The staircase is very impressive. Comfy bed and clean bathroom...
"Wedding night suite not worth the money"
We stayed in one of the suites here for our wedding night and left disappointed. We booked online and then called them the next day to make sure they'd be able to accommodate everything we needed. We didn't ask for anything out of the ordinary- early check in so my husband and his best man could get ready in the room, late check out (we asked for 3pm) so that we could have a lie in, and double checked that the large bath shown in photos on the website was the bath that was in our suite. On the phone they were very good- they assured us that early check in and late check out was fine, and said that they'd booked us into the room with the largest bath, giving us the room number there and then. We then phoned again in the week before the wedding to make sure nothing had changed and got the OK a second time. However, when my husband showed up to the hotel on the day there was some confusion about the early check in. There had been a note put on the computer that we'd asked for early check in, so he did get to go into the room early, but there was some faffing about to sort that out (I don't know the exact details as I wasn't there, but I know he was unhappy about it). The room itself was fine, but nothing special. Considering the amount that we'd paid for one night I was expecting something a bit less generic- it was just a larger version of a standard room, and had the feel of a travellodge to it. If I'd paid less I wouldn't have minded, but for the price it was quite disappointing. The bath was also just the standard small hotel bath, not the large corner bath shown on the website. The website doesn't specifically say which room that bath photo comes from, but as we'd phoned twice and been told twice that we were getting a big one, we were expecting a big one. We had breakfast in the room the next morning, which was okay. We got full English breakfasts with some cereal and fruit, and while we ended up with a lot of food, none of it was anything to write home about. It wasn't really bad, but I've had better breakfasts in Wetherspoons. Whether thats an endorsement of Wetherspoons or a criticism of the hotel depends on your point of view. Up until this point my opinion of the hotel was just average- I hadn't really enjoyed my time there but nothing had gone dramatically wrong. However that morning didn't go so well. My husband walked into town to deposit our wedding money into the bank, and while he was gone I had three separate and quite rude people talk to me about checkout. The first was a cleaner wanting to clear the room- that's fair enough, I had expected they'd tell the cleaners we had a late check out but no harm done, I let her know we'd be a couple of hours. Then the front desk phoned me asking why I was still in the room- 'check out was 45 minutes ago, when are you leaving'' was the phrase used. The person on the phone was rude and didn't seem interested in the fact that we'd already arranged a late check out. She told me we'd have to be out of the room by 2 (we had arranged 3pm) and I assumed that was that. Then five minutes later I get a knock on the door from someone else telling me that we had to leave now because check out was at 12 and they needed to clean the room! I explained the late check out, and how I had literally just got off the phone with someone else about it, and she just seemed annoyed at me being so inconvenient. None of these three people were aware that other staff had asked me the same questions. This could maybe be forgiven if we'd overstayed unexpectedly, but we'd arranged a late check out in advance, and double checked that it was still okay. We left as soon as my husband got back from the bank, with quite a bad taste in our mouths. They knew it was our wedding night and they still chose to be rude, and I ended up spending my first morning as a wife in a bad mood because of their staff's attitude and incompetence. If the room had been cheaper I wouldn't have been quite so damning in my review, but even ignoring the incompetence of the staff, the overall experience was mediocre and I'd strongly recommend staying somewhere else. This is a hotel aimed at businessmen and conferences, and the only people I can imagine staying in the suites are bosses who are putting on their corporate card. It's really not worth it otherwise.
