Domes of Elounda is very conveniently located in Elounda of Crete with lots and lots of things to do, Plaka Village is in a walking distance (1,5 km away), while Elounda is a 5 minutes drive (2,5 km away) and Agios Nikolaos is a 10 minutes ride. All three nearby villages have tavernas and restaurants of excellent quality, bars and coffee shops, souvenir shops and markets too, if you are keen on exploring the neighbor area, stroll and take in the local culture.

"Beware of upgrades, and booking with Marriott Rewards points"
We are staying at Domes of Elounda currently as part of a 2 week vacation in Greece. I had researched every hotel we stayed at extensively and we were really looking forward to our stay at this resort after coming from a beautiful hotel in Athens. I chose this hotel because As a Marriott Gold member I was able to I book with points ( lots of them were needed!). I specifically chose a sea view premium jacuzzi suite as an ocean view is very important to us. Upon arrival we were thrilled with the beauty of the location and the grounds and were welcomed warmly. We received a welcome cocktail ( much appreciated) and checkin was easy. As a Marriott gold member we were told that we had received an upgrade to a 2 bedroom villa with a private pool which sounded wonderful. I asked to make sure that we still had a sea view and was told that we did. Our room was not ready so we had lunch at the beachside fish restaurant- very good food and fantastic service. The manager there ( Dimitrios') was outstanding as were the servers. We were then escorted by golf cart to our upgraded room- it was a private villa at the very back of the resort in the family area ( we are a couple) and about as far from anything as could be. It had a beautiful large pool but the villa itself was much more appropriate for a family and not luxurious in the least. There was also most definitely no sea view other than a sliver of sea to be seen through the garden. We informed staff that this was not what we were ok with and so were transferred back to what we were told was the category we booked. If so it must have been one of the lesser desirable rooms in that category which was very disappointing given that I booked months in advance and had been told I would be upgraded. I had also requested a high floor- we were given a suite at ground level right next to the road where everyone walked and the golf carts drove. We did have a sea view over other buildings but we could not enjoy it as we had to keep our curtains closed at all times as people regularly wandered by and stared straight into our room and bathroom . We had a jacuzzi but did not use it due to the extreme lack of privacy. The room also did not look anything like the photos for the category I booked. It felt a bit shabby and very dark ( and of course made worse by needing to keep curtains closed ) So in spite of booking months in advance, requesting higher level floor and being a gold member with upgrade we received neither an appropriate upgrade ( ie seaview) nor a decent room within the category we booked. In fact when we did get into our room it had a high chair, playpen, baby bath and diaper bucket. What is most disappointing is that we talked to the front desk the evening we checked in. They told us they would contact the manager about a room change and get back to us the same night or at the very latest the next morning . We received no call that night and it is now the following night with still not a call ( even to apologize and say they have done what they can but there is nothing available. ). Instead it feels like they just ignored us and hoped we would forget about it. I can only surmise this might be because we booked with reward points ( even though it was a LOT of my points) and in spite of being marriott gold.. Other than the problem with the rooms manager ignoring us and receiving a sub par room we have to say that the resort itself is beautiful. The staff have been wonderful . We enjoyed the special seafood dinner at the beach restaurant Saturday night. The restaurant staff are all excellent as are the golf cart drivers . Our included breakfast was very nice, especially as we could sit outside. Pools were very cold though! In short this is a disappointing stay. It could have been improved if someone had just taken the time to respond to our concerns and call us back rather than ignore us. As I booked with points I did not push it, but if I had paid I would have been extremely unhappy.

"Swimming pools let the place down "
We stayed here with our 1 year mid-late September 2017. We were in a 2 bed luxury residence with private pool. The property is beautiful, staff excellent, service impeccable, food great. I reiterate all the good things other people have said. However...we came on holiday to enjoy the sunshine and spend a lot of time swimming. This wasn't possible. The pools, both public and private ones were absolutely freezing, and much too cold for our son, and everyone else's children given the empty pools everywhere. This really, really does need to be addressed as it would be the one thing that would stop us returning. We had many phone calls to try get the "heated private pool" actually remotely warm but to no avail. We actually did a comparison between the water from our kitchen cold tap and swimming pool, and the cold tap was warmer! Such a shame and I do hope they fix.
"Exceeded My Expectations"
Domes of Elounda employees clearly have a sincere desire to please their guests. The management staff should be very proud of their hiring and training skills and their wonderful staff. Nearly every call to the front desk was answered on the first ring. Many needs were anticipated in advance and the staff was genuinely excited to make our stay enjoyable. Restaurant advice, golf cart requests, transportation assistance and general questions were all answered with a consistent “of course”! Everyone on the beautifully managed property was genuinely eager to please. Special thanks to Anastasia and Dora for their kindness and assistance. Our upgrade was at the highest point on the property (amazing views), so we called for a cart every time we left the room. The young men driving the carts were a pleasure to ride with. Always smiling and polite. Thanks everyone at Domes for making our vacation a memorable experience. Would I recommend Domes of Elounda and come back for another vacation' .....“Of Course”
"Nice stay at Domes of Elounda"
I struggled with the rating for Domes of Elounda because we thoroughly enjoyed our stay in spite of the fact that there were aspects we didn't like. First the things we liked: The grounds of the resort are beautiful and very well cared for. The beach is smallish but it has very fine sand and the water was incredibly clear and beautiful. The man who runs the water sports concession was great: friendly, helpful and extremely personable. The rest of the staff was very friendly and helpful including the restaurant staffs, the front desk and the beach staff. The manager of the lunch restaurant generously comped us because they were setting up for a special event and had to close the restaurant a little early. The hot tub on our terrace was amazing. The things we liked less: the room felt small and cluttered. We stayed at another hotel with a room of a similar size that felt twice as big because it was light and airy. The bathroom although spacious is very dark and felt like going into a cave. The resort is laid out in a strange way with two separate areas that are quite far from one another. The main pool is a very, very long way from the suites as opposed to the villas and the villas are a very, very long way from the beach. Although the resort has golf carts to take you around, the wait for a golf cart can be quite long. There is a separate VIP area on the beach with slightly nicer amenities than the regular beach. It felt slightly strange in a 5 star resort to be made to feel like a second class citizen. All in all we enjoyed our stay because of the staff, the beach and the beautiful surroundings.
