"Tricky review to write"
I had a bit of a challenge writing this review as in some ways the hotel was perfectly great and in others they could have done better. The room itself felt very modern, the bed was quite comfortable, and the floor to ceiling windows offered a great view of the city. The breakfast buffet had reasonably good variety in it, and the dining area was nice. The free ferry itself was very easy to find and take, and provided great service right to the central train station, and it meant that you could be in Central Amsterdam within 15 minutes. In terms of the things to improve, I found that housekeeping could be improved. There was quite a bit of black mold around the bottom of the shower door and on the tiles which is never pleasant. We also had the experience with housekeeping just coming in despite the do not disturb sign being on (twice within 10 minutes in fact), which seems like it should be a pretty easy issue to fix with training. The music from the nearby bar was very loud until late into the night, which was surprising given that we weren't in the central area. The area the hotel is in seems to not be one where you would just go for a walk, although again the ferry ride is not bad. In the end it was a perfectly acceptable stay at a reasonable price.
Firstly, they are very strict on the 3pm check in time so if you arrive earlier be prepared to wait! 14€ for 2 beers in the hotel bar. Room on the 3rd floor was fine, receptionists were lovely and said we had been upgraded to a queen room which was quite small so i dread to think what a standard double was like!! Room nice though and bed fairly comfy no complaints there. Free ferry is great to get back to Amsterdam central, but be aware that the last ferry is 23.45, after that if you need to get back to the hotel it'll be a taxi for 35€ Surprisingly no free shuttle taxi service like other hotels Ive stayed in over the water offer to guests, if they do offer it we wasn't told about it anyway!! One only annoyance was the chambermaids unable to read the 'do not disturb' light on the corridor wall, both days they let themselves in why the light was on. Overall the hotels ok, worth the money I suppose but there is other hotels id go back to over that side of Amsterdam before returning to the hilton.
"Bang on the money"
Admittedly I also booked this Hilton by mistake believing it was the one nearest to Centraal Station so was somewhat skeptical after reading some of the reviews, however, a lot of the negative reviews have proven to be extremely petty. And probably more to do with the location of the hotel (coupled with the weather...it gets wet, cold and windy in the winter, who’d have thought it'), which actually isn’t bad at all. It’s a FREE ferry ride from the back of Centraal station which takes 10 minutes or so to cross the water. When at the other side, the hotel is literally a minutes walk away. Ferry’s are on the half hour (every 15 mins at peak times) and stop at midnight, so it’s a taxi or Uber job back if you’re on a late one. The staff are as friendly and as helpful as you could wish for, and whilst I can only comment on the room we stayed in (6th floor Hilton Honours room) it was perfect for the stay. Albeit smaller than a lot of your usual hotel rooms, it was way more ‘cozy’ than ridiculously small. Plenty of room to comfortably move about in, coupled with being very modern, clean and with some great views of the water front. We didn’t sample the hotel restaurant or room service, however, it all looked again extremely nice. The area itself isn’t the traditional canals and Red Light District-esque scene that is Amsterdam, but is fun, interesting and different in its own cool and unique way! Not dangerous, not overly loud or whichever it might be. All of the standard stuff you want to see and do in The Dam is still there on the doorstep to be done. Certainly wouldn’t hesitate at staying here again, and would definitely check out the immediate hotel area more.
Quiet hotel just out of the City easy access to town via the free water taxis nice restaurant and staff. Great rooms and very comfotable Bath robes and tea and coffee facilities provided. Great views of Amsterdam from our room
"Very modern hotel in decayed industrial location"
Takes a while to get here. 15 minute free ferry ride from Centraal station then few minutes walk to the hotel. Very busy, cold and open boat full of cyclists, not very comfortable . My room was very modern with touchscreen light controls, tv hanging from the ceiling but not very clean:my duvet cover was stained and the room dusty. WiFi worked very well in both room and restaurant. Staff replaced the cover very quickly when I complained. Dinner, service and reception were all good. Didn’t have breakfast.
