"Funky hotel in best location possible"
It was my first time to visit Melbourne. I need a strategic place to see some attractions that the city has to offer. And the hotel delivers, since its location is possibly unbeatable. It's located on Flinders Street, in front of Flinders St Station, a major hub of this city. Degraves Street with its touristy cafes and Federation Square are located close by. Southbank and Crown Casino are just a stroll away, either by Prince's Bridge or an underground link. Bourke Street Mall, Collins Street, and Flinders Lane are really close by also, if you're keen on shopping. Tram stops are located on Flinders Street, Elizabeth Street or Swanston Street, all are just located a stone throw away. It's really convenience, there are several supermarkets close by also. The hotel is fresh from a renovation. The lobby has funky vibe with its dark interior and subdued lighting. Its restaurant is located just behind the lobby area. We arrived at a Sunday morning long before official check in time, but after came back for lunch on Degraves Street, we could check in around 1 pm. Check in was efficient and prompt, we're offered their famous choc cookies. Our room was 811, it has decent size and surprisingly a window with a view of Elizabeth Street. The room is bright with thoughtfully design features and modern interior. Bed is quite comfy for a good night sleep. The room isn't really sound proof, but it doesn't interrupt our sleep. The bathroom has no bathtub, but its size is decent. There are several TV channels provided, but frankly not as varied as in Asia's. Wifi service isn't free in this hotel, since I'm not a member of Hilton loyalty program. Breakfast is served in their ground floor restaurant, starting from 6.30 am. There were only a few waiters, but they work efficiently. There are regular hot foods, like bean, potatoes, egg, bacon, etc. There are also bread, salad and fruit stations instead of small Asian and juice corners. They also offer make to order egg dishes. The spread is sufficient for 3 night stay like we had, taste wise isn't bad also. But, we would be bored if longer than that, better to go to cafes since Melbourne is famous for its cafe culture. I don't have a chance to order dinner in the hotel, but it seems that their menu are decently priced. I used their gym on second floor. It is small but equipped with basic but new fitness equipment. Its windows facing Flinders St Station, so I could see how the city woke up that morning. They also provide towels and drink water for exercise. Overall, I'm really satisfied with my hotel choice which make us not spending much time for transportation, ideal for first time visitor to Melbourne like us. We found a good rate also from Agoda for our stay there.
"Great Location for CBD"
Nice hotel situated across the street from the train station, on the river, and just a few minutes walk to Federation Square, and other CBD locations. Clean, modern, nice décor, but with a pricy restaurant, the Double Tree was a good option for enjoying the city. Parking was a bit of a disaster, so be prepared to park in the car park BEFORE the hotel entrance itself, otherwise you'll be lapping the block which isn't fun in the vehicle and foot traffic in the area.
"Good location, friendly staff"
First things first: Free water, yay! This puts it above some of the local Starwood chains in my book as I'm highest status with both chains. The room is clean, nothing really special, but the location in town is very good, everything is pretty close. The restaurant and bar downstairs is very good, the food is good and the staff are friendly. Check in was super easy, I was in a hurry for a meeting and needed to just drop my bag and go. By the time I had come back, the bag was in the room, the keys were ready, and it was a breeze. I appreciate that. Some countries fuss too much, but things are a bit more easy going here in Australia. I definitely would put this hotel on the list of come back to this place when in Melbourne.
"Great Staff & Great Location"
You really can't ask for more! We were in Melbourne for 4 nights and were so pleased we picked this hotel. We were traveling with friends who had selected a different hotel and kept saying how our location was so much better than their hotels. Seriously, the location is perfect. The hotel itself, even though it's a Hilton property, has the feel of a boutique hotel. loved the exposed cement and artwork in the lobby. I will say our room was a bit on the small side - but that's what we booked and we weren't there much. The staff that we came across were wonderful. Always willing to help out and answer any questions. Check in was easy and as a Diamond member we got some great perks. I'd say here again in a heartbeat and would recommend this hotel to my friends.
"Average in comparison"
Regularly travel to Melbourne for weekend getaways and have stayed at various Hotels and this stay was average at best in comparison. Firstly we booked due to the Hilton name then read a review about some rooms having no windows .After confirming with the hotel we found that the rooms we booked were those without windows how ever we could upgrade for an additional cost to a King with a window. We figured we can't go wrong with a King room . Well it did have a window that was dirty and looked into the building next door that was about 1 metre away. The room was small with tea and coffee but no other mini bar products however it was clean and quiet. We went with another couple and were heading out on the first night so decided to have a drink down stairs. We ordered a couple of beers and when we asked what wine they had the reply was dry or sweet ,what sort of dry or sweet' Red or white was the answer. The bar staff seemed disinterested. We also ordered warm roasted mixed nuts which arrived cold and looked like they were straight out of the packet. Lucky the location is handy to a lot of bars, cafes and restaurants so you have plenty of other options outside the hotel. On the positive side the checkin staff are friendly and helpful and the 12.00 check out was good as our flights were at 2.00pm. Would be good for an overnight stay but for a weekend getaway the rooms are average.
